A Creative Zen Stone Plus 2gb for the road, tiny little thing but with a screen, a mic and an FM radio built in.

My main one is a Creative Zen Xtra 40gb. A 2003 era mono screen'd piece of mp3 playing genius.

I have a lovely iPod. The nice smallish big version that was out just before the iPod touch.

I like it a lot.

a 30GB Archos GMini 402. Handles lots of video codecs too, and can be used as a camera, camcorder, and play some shitty java-esque games.

Or my w800i if I'm just popping out somewhere.

I have an 8Gb v1 iPhone which I use mainly and a 30Gb iPod video which lives plugged into a set of speakers.
There's also a 20Gb ipod (an old one of mine) which HC uses and my daughter has a 16Gb touch

Not sure this counts but I transfer my MP3's on to my MiniDisc Player and get 20 - 50 hours of play! Woo! Although it does mean using Sony's worst MP3 ATRAC software transfer tool known to man! Also I have to change discs every 75-80 mins and the compressions shit if I need any longer play time than that!

I was considering a proper MP3 player but I can't decide whats good.

Well what you need feature wise? Does it matter if it's tiny? Will you want video? Do you want epic amounts of music on or say, just the odd 50 hours worth?

20g Archos Gmini 402cam. It is ace, though a little large by modern standards.

I guess video isn't really anything I need. Small is good but it's battery life I really want. Also I'd like it as a back up for all my music (50-80 GB) but thats probably just being silly and a portable device isn't really a sensible place to keep a backup.

So I guess I could live with anything above 8GB, a decent battery and something thats not a brick... mmm yes thats about it.

Incidentally, if anybody wants to buy a fourth-generation iPod photo (40GB, US model) or a 160GB black iPod classic (UK) send me a PM. Haven't decided on prices yet so make me an offer, but I don't use either of them any more as I've got my iPhone instead and I've decided that carrying around my entire music collection is silly as I only regularly listen to about 250 tracks!

I have an 8gb iPod Touch. It is a thing of beauty and a joy to use. It has better wireless reception than my laptop.

I have a MS Zune, which broke when I dropped it on my Birthday. It updates it's podcasts automatically whenever it gets a wireless signal it can use, and will update music as soon as it gets into range of your home wireless signal (assuming you've got more music to update, of course).
It is, frankly, excellent, and I will be getting another one shortly.

One of those 2 I suspect. I'd go Creative because I detest iTunes and the Creative has a handy dandy sd slot for later expansion too.

I fancy a touch (titter) but can't justify it at all.

MiniDisc was so nearly awesome, but Sony pulled their usual trick of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I have an iPhone 16Gb.

I never understood why they didn't put them in their Vaios, I can guess why they didn't but I still don't understand why.

They never pushed the data MiniDiscs, although they (just barely) existed. Then ages later Zip drives happened and made Iomega a fuckton of money for a while. Stupid Sony.

I have an iPod Shuffle, because my iPod Photo broke and the Shuffle was the only replacement I could afford.

I'd love one of the new Nanos, but they're too expensive.

iPhone 8GB. Mostly listen to "listen again" radio programmes on it at the moment, rather than actual mp3s.

I have a zen stone thing too, which is cute but I find the interface a bit annoying, and rarely remember to charge it up..

I had a 60gb iPod which was lost on a drunken night out a months ago.

I now have a 80gb classic which is good for battery life and video brightness now, but the stupid coverflow system is stupid if you have lots of artists with 1 or 2 tracks. STUPID

A Creative Zen Nano wot I got free from Amazon. It's only 512mb, but that's more than enough for my tunes to run to, which is all I use it for. I just have to occasionally swap the contents.

Although I do agree with this, I do like to have a seperate gadget designed purely for the one task. Even thought my phone has an MP3 player and satnav, I still use my iPod and normal Satnav.

It just seems to be more "proper" if you get me.

Quicktime.

Creatives are good because I take an MP3, and I copy it to my player. Done.

Quicktime, and the earphones they come with are gash. And the lack of wireless updating (unless the iPhone/touch does that). I also have MP3 and Satnav on my phone (and a camera) and use seperate items for each. I won't when my phone does these things properly, of course.

Are any pack-in headphones any good? I've always replaced them, going back to my first Walkmen. My iPhone official headphones have never been plugged in.

They don't. It'd be nice if they did. Although given how many software features Apple have ballsed up of late, perhaps it's for the best they haven't tried this.

Quote:

Well, for a camera, the best camera is the one you have. I've taken snapshots with my phone when I have nothing else and been very glad I could do so. This would be very much more the case if I had the nice 5MP camera your N95 has. I think phone cameras have reached a pinnacle now, they are never going to get any significant upgrade to the optics because of their form factor.

Can't comment on the mp3 player on the N95. I guess you'll always have capacity problems with a flash based player, as you appear to have all the music ever on your PC.

For satnav, the N95 can run TomTom off the internal GPS now, which to my mind largely removes the need for a standalone satnav unless you use it so often that the somewhat larger screen and touchscreen interface is compelling enough.

The larger screen is nice to have, yes. The earphones that come with the Zune were very good (and magnetic at the back so you could stick them together, thus avoiding tangelization), but I lost them :(
Camera's will keep getting better once people learn that megapixels mean fuck all and sensor size is what they're looking for.

[edit]Oh, and what Craster said, down there.

I always thought the earphones that came with an iPod were alright? Maybe I'm wrong... But I agree with what's been said up there.

When my phone (which is an N95) does things as good as my camera and satnav, then I'll use that.

The Sansa Clip is great, can load music on it via exploreror or windows media to sync it.

Tiny tiny thing, it was a toss up between this and the zen, but this had better reviews.

My phone also supports mp3 but i prefer a seperate device in the gym or running.

Does anyone have the plugin for Media Player to sync to an iPod? I use it and it's great... I think I might have got the link for it off this forum actually.
