Ok, so I try to sign in to Live this evening and I get:

Quote:
Your account has been suspended due to a problem with your payment option. Please use a different payment option or update your current information in Account Management.

I've just logged into live.xbox.com and it says my subscription runs out in September 2009 - what the hell is going on?!

Ok I've signed into Account Management and it says that my account is suspended. I'm going to ring them and tell them to remove all my card details and get one of those cheap Xbox Live memberships - where were they from again?

Does this look legit at all? I've only ever paid through my Xbox before, so I don't want to be scammed. It's one of the sponsored links in Google.

So you had this problem last night despite having a sub that's still in date?

It happened to me a while ago, what had happened is that I had a card on there that had expired, but also had a new card on there that hadn't expired. Despite successfully taking payment from the new card for months, they suddenly decided that there was a payment option failure because the old card had expired, so they suspended the account.

I now use those Xbox Live cards from jasper.

You can't be if you're in the UK. They didn't launch until Dec 2005.

GRRRRRR, so I've got my code from Jasper, but when I enter it in on the website I get "Can't redeem your code. Please try again."

Does this mean they've blocked my account completely? Am I going to have to ring them up to get it reactivated? I was hoping I could just use a code and get back online again.

I have no idea about this, so I may just be giving you false hope, but can you go to http://billing.microsoft.com and remove the card details there?

That's what they told me when I rung them up earlier as well. I cannot find anywhere where you can remove the card details - only amend or add new ones. It says as soon as I update my card details it'll charge me £39.99, but I don't want them to do this. I want to use my pre-paid card. :'(

That's what I've been trying to do, as you can only add prepaid cards using your Xbox when you're signed into Live, which it won't let me do...

Right, the helpdesk are lying bastards. I asked them to remove card my card details and they said I could do it myself via the http://billing.microsoft.com website. I've been to every single section of that site and nowhere can I do this.

I've been reading on the net and it seems to be a complete ballache to actually get it done and most of the helpdesk staff lie and say it can't be done or that you can do it yourself. My prepaid card still does not work. I've emailed Jasper to see if he's made a typo on it (he says on his website that it can happen).

Bah.

You can add ya pre-paid number via Xbox.com via the "redeam prepaid code" button on the "manage profile" page. Again not sure it'll help with sorting ya credit card out but might get you on live?

Yes.
The network test was fine, it just failed to log into Live, and gave me a message like that.

My sub is only a week old and I was a bit worried that the cheap option had turned out to be a scam, but as I say it's fine again now (without me doing anything) and stayed connected all evening.

However nobody was playing burny P :(

Strange, I was able to remove my dead credit card from there. Perhaps you can only remove expired cards?

It is an expired card I'm trying to remove (otherwise it would've been charged on the expiry date of my sub).

itsallwater: I've tried to add it via live.xbox.com and billing.microsoft.com. I cannot add it via my 360 as you have to be signed in to Live in order to do this (clever system).

I'm still getting "Can't redeem your code. Please try again." I'm not getting anywhere here.

I've just bought an Elite! Anyone got a HD transfer kit they could bung in a Jiffy? I will repay postage.

(Yes, I know I can get a free one from MS, but that'll take a couple of weeks.)

Right, excellently (or not, whichever way you look at it), I've managed to set the expiry date on my current card (which bizarrely they didn't attempt to charge) into the past and now that's showing as expired as well. So at least I know they won't try to charge that one.

I'm still stuck with the pre-paid code not working.

Umm, last I checked this wasn't 'Myoptika's Xbox 360 problems' but just 'More Xbox 360 problems'. I have an Xbox 360 problem, I want to get my current stuff onto my new drive, but obviously I should have started an entirely new thread, as it isn't important enough for Myoptika's special thread.

I'd consider it thread-jacking, to be honest. I wouldn't mind if I'd managed to solve my issue, but until I have it just seems rude to butt in.

-edit- Also, read the subtitle - this is regarding suspended accounts. Yours is not.

I'm going to wait until Jasper confirms that the code is valid. I've got no reason to believe it's not, but I need to make sure before I start banging my head against 50 brick walls.

Hmm... I wonder where Craster happened upon this wonderful piece of advice.

Sorry to hear of all your eggbox woes, Myoptika - how are you coping? Craig keeps looking forlornly over to the spot where the XBox usually sits. It is now a sad and empty space.

Myoptika, have you tried entering the code via your XBox or via the xbox.com website?

I'd just give them a call and find out what the heck is going on... Have you checked the email that your love account is linked to? There might be a message there or in your spam folder regarding your account (I know I had one when my card expired) and might give you more info.

When mine ran out, my credit card had expired, and they tried to charge it. I ignored it as I wasn't using Live at the time. So I got a couple of emails telling me I was going to lose it. I eventually went in and changed the card and re registered. I could still log into Live while this was happening! Have you received any emails telling you that they are going to cancel your account?

Right, I've given them a call and actually spoken to someone useful. She's told me that she cannot remove my card details because she doesn't have the authority, but has passed it on to her supervisor, who will call me back within 48 hours to do it. Let's see if that happens.

She's also removed the suspension on my account so I can use the pre-paid card. Arsingly, I left the code at home so I can't try this until I get home tonight.

I did read that but I thought you could still sign into live without an active gold account as it just reverts to the silver account, but you can still use it to contact people, access the account management, etc.

Nope, it wouldn't let me because my whole account was suspended. Every time I signed into Live it told me my account was suspended due to a payment problem.

I've now signed into billing.microsoft.com and my account's enabled again. I guess I just have to get my code now. :)

Microsoft blacklisted my credit card after authorisation was refused on a number of occasions. They suspended the account too. I got them to un-suspend it, but now, even though the card is valid and there are funds available, I can't use it to bill to on Eggbox Live because Microsoft think it smells. I've had to buy a pre-paid code thing which Play should have sent me several days ago. If I don't get my regular shooting-American-teenagers-Halo-fix soon I'm going to commit a real crime.

The drones on Support for Live don't seem to be able to divert from their scripted responses or escalate.
