I'm buying something off eBay from someone in Canada and the payment method is postal order. Do I have to get a postal order made up in dollars or will the seller be able to cash one made up in pounds over there?

Why don't you ask the seller?

You should've asked him before bidding, but I guess you already know that.

I wouldn't buy anything with a postal order. Especially not from eBay. Especially not from a different country.

Being fairer than usual*, any two of those things is a strong indication of scam. All three flashes red lights and sounds klaxons, for me.

* Really, I think I any one of those things is evidence enough. Especially if that one is eBay.

I think you might be somewhat paranoid then! Zen-Chan the seller will need it to be in the currency that you win the auction in, so in this case probably dollars. If you send it in pounds they will have to pay extra to exchange it.

Also! Canadian dollars are different to American ones. I know that's probably obvious, but the worst thing would be to get a Postal Order draughted up in American dollars and for him not to accept it.

Unless the auction was in American dollars, in which case ignore me.

It's all sorted now, though to ease anyone's paranoia it was only for a relatively small amount (£25) and the person has an exemplary feedback record in selling the same sort of thing.

I don't mind them, personally. There are a couple of blokes in Ireland who buy stuff regularly from me using postal orders made out in pounds sterling which I just bank like cheques.
