Well its out now on XBLA and I assume Wii and PS3 as well.

Game is *hard* but then a lot of the Megaman titles were.

I lost my first 3 lives without even clearing the first jump !

Also, you can have Megaman 9. That game is HATEFUL beyond belief. I'm too old for these "hardcore" games now.

:ninja:

So I managed to finish the demo but what is really hateful is you get all the way through to the robot boss at the end of the level and then thats the demo over - you dont even get the chance to fight him !

And if you really want a laugh look at the achievements ! - some examples :

1) Finish the game without using a continue
2) Finish the game without losing a life
3) Finish the game in under 60 minutes
4) Finish the game 5 times in a single day
5) Finish the game without using any other weapon than your startup gun

etc etc

What they have managed to do is make the game look and feel very NES like , just a pity the 360 controller isnt quite as good as a NES pad :-)

I just got the to the 3rd elephant and kicked the bucket. With practive I think I could make the end but the next level would probably kick my arse. Also, no really achievable achievements.

I think i could probably finish it - so thats a 20 point achievement in total :-)

Hint for doing the 3rd Elephant

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Just run straight at it and stop in front of it - you get hit by the ball as it bounces but if you keep firing either you'll kill it before the ball is sucked back , or it will hit you a second time , at least by doing this you dont go down the holes.

Oh and the time i did finish the demo i had 3 lives and about 3/4's of my energy at the boss - i only lost a life on

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The bloody vanishing floor - which took me a few looks to spot that there is a different pattern on the bricks you can fall through

I will confess to being tempted... but it could be the whole time I'll just sit there thinking it's not quite Megaman 3...

I haven't found myself constantly comparing it to MM3 (my favourite) or MM2, to be honest. More frequently, I'm surprised and relieved by its superiority to 4 and 6.

The level design is fantastic, and never so difficult that you won't have nailed a stage after a few attempts. Obviously, though, you'll want to spend a bit of time discovering which bosses are vulnerable to which weapons (although I seemed to do them in the worst order possible on my first go, and ended up tackling a lot of them with the standard Mega Buster, which didn't really detract from the experience at all). The music is great, too, but doesn't seem as memorable as anything from the first 6 games.

If you're at all interested in playing another good 8-bit Mega Man game, it's essential.

This is both a thing of sheer, unbridled 8-bit joy and fucking bastard-hard at the same time. Not infuriatingly so, mind you - every time I play it I seem to get a little bit further. Lovely, lovely bastard.

At times, I was reminded of that modded Super Mario Bros FROM HELL on Youtube (where everything is a trap that kills you without warning and instantly).

I mean, it took me far too many goes just to get past that first pit. Either I'd hit the green thing that comes out and fall in, clear the pit but be shot by it and fall in, collide with a bird mid-jump and fall in, or clear the pit, only to immediately have a rock dropped on me by a bird... and be knocked backwards in. In the end, I only got past by using the Rush Coil.

I don't remember Megaman jumping like this either.

I've never played a Megaman game before, so I decided to download the trial version. Am I going to cry?

Initially with delight, at the palette-shifting intro sequence, and the perfect frontend.

Then with terror, at the first jump. And then the elephants. I didn't get past the second one.

After SFII XBLA, Capcom were going to have to work extra hard to get any more money out of me.

They haven't succeeded here, this game is utterly hateful.

I've actually finished Mega Man 9, although by nefarious means.

In the final stage the game makes you fight every boss all over again.

THEN flings two additional bosses at you.

Also; you can shoot bees from your arm. BEES.

That's about par for the course with Megaman games. In some you'd have to fight all the bosses from the previous game instead.

I don't know why they don't just give Dr Wily the electric chair or something, he's so clearly going to keep coming back they should just get it over with once and for all.

Mainly the way they kept the "Bleed as much money as you can" difficulty from the arcade machine to the game. I'm fairly good at beat em ups - I can generally win at high difficulties with a certain amount of perseverance. SFII, I can't even get past the fourth character on easiest difficulty. If you provide a difficulty scale with 8 settings, that should provide for all skills in theory. In practice, no. None are fun to play against. I couldn't help but feel a little insulted after I paid for it.

I've heard they're expanding their Game Ruiners department. They've also brought some advisors in from Codebastards to teach them Western dev techniques for spoiling gamers' fun.

Dead Rising is determined to make you want to play it but also hate it to 'tear the disc out of the console, throw it across the room, then jump up and down on it screaming "CUNT!!!!!"' levels of rage.

Just do the Zombie Genocider achievement, get the Real Mega Buster, and your problems are over.

Dead Rising is full of "Oh you BASTARDS!"

It is however, acebest.

It's almost what we'd both call "Test Drive Unlimited syndrome" except with DR it's mostly maliciousness rather than stupidity that put it there.

Every second I played Dead Rising I kept imagining Keiji Inafune leaning back in his chair guffawing loudly into the air.

"Yes, you've just spent an hour escorting that little old lady to safety, BUT NOW YOU CAN'T FINISH THE GAME! AHAHAHAH! BAD LUCK, LOSER PANTS!"

The thing about Dead Rising is that it requires a slightly different mindset to enjoy - almost old school.

You will play the game multiple times, that's both expected and required. You will get to know ways to do things quicker. You will find ways to avoid/kill the convicts. It was a game designed to be replayed.

The only thing I'd actually want to change about it (aside from the inability to save in survivor mode - They could easily have made it so that you couldn't reuse the save file once loaded, nor back it up) is Otis, or more accurately, your inability to do anything while talking to him.p

Including being attacked - you're desperately running around trying to dodge zombies, as if one of them hits you, Frank goes 'aargh' and cuts Otis off. And Otis don't take kindly to no honky cutting him off, hear?

Lies! I did that, got my Frank up to level 36, took aim at An Zombie and proceeded to get eaten to death before I could track him. Multiple times! It is pure hatred in disc form. But it has zombies, so I'm holding on to it.

You're doing something wrong. Either just aim and fire (one hit, one kill) or just run while hitting fire. It fires rapidly and holds 200 shots, it's unstoppable!

That is annoying, yes. They don't make tools like they used to.

What's worse is when you're furiously hitting things and your item suddenly breaks, but you're still hitting 'use' so Frank pulls out a valuable bottle of orange juice and necks it.

There is no reason whatsoever for weapons to break in that game. It's the most annoying part of it.

But only certain girls in certain positions count as totty.

The little redhead you save from the convicts, for instance, only counts when she's sitting down on the floor. Take a shot of her nice bum, nothing. You're really just meant to take pictures of the little blonde DOHS agent with her enorm-o-rack, and the bitch blonde from the movie theatre.

Of course, you know who wants to you to take rude pics, right? ("Cunt" -Ed.), the photographer.

Walked from Paradise plaza to Al Fresco and died 3 times, unable to do fuck all if I missed the QTE as a zombie jumped on me, slowly being eaten to death over EIGHT health blobs.

I just love how QTE, as first coined by Shenmue, has become the accepted name for these sequences. God bless you, Shenmue.

The next Dead Rising's set in an airport, I hear. I hope not, 'cause where's Frank (or whoever) gonna get weapons from? There are no hardware shops or anything. He'll be beating zombies off (fnar) with big bags of duty free wine gums.
