Hello.

I'm looking for a copy of Illustrator for my mac, and speaking to a friend of mine she recommended here, where she got hers from a couple of weeks ago.

So... Price, good good. But is it too good. What are the likelihoods that this is dodgy? She said she had no problems with them but I am still a teensy bit suspicious, and I'd rather put the effort into trying to find a *coughindefinitetrailversioncough* than pay these people to basically do that for me.

You don't sound especially bothered about owning a legal copy so why not just go straight onto any of the popular bittorrent sites?

If you want an indefinite trial version, why not try http://www.torrentz.com?

Honestly? Because the keygen issues around the CS2 and CS3 versions of the Adobe software are a pain in the bum :P And I'm all for an easy life.

The chances of that being legal are probably about the same as me being a paralympic champion.

That site won't open for me but if it seems too cheap then it almost certainly isn't legit. Which means that they'll probably just send you a DVD with exactly the same things on it as you could just download yourself from a torrent site.

On the plus side though, if that does happen you can report them to FAST and get a £1,000 reward!

Well, Photochop is OK, but you need a PC to run the keygen, illustrator is more of a pain in the backside, I think, and £35 isn't to much for me as I will use it muchly, but as I say, I'd rather put up with the pain in the backside and get the old dusty PC out than to pay those peeps to sell me something as genuine if it isn't. And I'm not 100% sure it is genuine.

EDIT: Oh well, OK chaps, thanks all the same.

There's a handy little program apparantly that will help. If you can wait till I'm home I'll pm you details.

He shouldn't be selling that stuff, it's against the law... and I don't like it!

I don't know - maybe it isn't dodgy, I have no idea. there's quite a few places that seem to offer the downloadable software for those prices, so though I think that it may be 'not quite legit' I don't know that for certain, and as I say I don't want t give money over for something that is dodgy :/

I don't believe Adobe sell downloaded versions at all.

Yes, I think they do, I had a look at the website and there is a buy (downloadable) link for most of the software, so you can download the trial and then just purchase a code.

Adobe sells downloads via its site, but there is literally zero chance the stuff on that website is legit. Just about the only way you can get software for a fairly hefty discount is via an old-version/upgrade combo, like dodgy geezers Shaye used to do in London. Instead of getting Photoshop CS3, you'd get Photoshop CS2 plus the upgrade version of CS3. Net result: you save a few quid, but with the caveat that you have an older 'proper' version, thereby limiting your future upgrades. (Typically, Adobe enables you to upgrade from a couple of versions before, but that's it.)

Mind you, even this isn't that great these days, with Adobe's 'interesting' upgrade prices, and its deliberately taking the piss out of the UK. (If you do ever want to buy Adobe software legit, get someone in the US to buy it for you, seeing as it's about half the price.)

Yes. And the Adobe Spyware, price unfairness (dollar prices = £ prices in Adobeland) and other Adobe issues that put me off buying new versions of Premiere and instead opting for Final Cut Pro. So Adobe lost out on a fair old sum from me for being gits.

This is what I did with Final Cut. Although I don't think Apple have those upgrade limitations as far as I am aware.

Apple also doesn't take the piss to the same level as Adobe regarding exchange rates. Plus it's actually been making an effort with its pro-level software upgrades, offering major changes. Compare that to the upcoming tweak that is CS4.
