In most cases, it's actually British English that's changed, with American English remaining stuck.

I'd become aware of that, yes - it's funny how we get so hung up on the correct English English version rather than the nominally wrong American-English version, when they used to be one and the same. Still, WE'RE RIGHT AND THEY'RE WRONG. ;)

Anyway, bar perhaps legal documentation, 'judgement' is a perfectly acceptable British English spelling, and it's down to individual publication style guides whether it gets amended or not.

This used to make me wonder whether there was actually a different meaning for the different spellings - whether a "judgment" meant a "legal" judgment, and "judgement" meant every other sort...

He's out right now, but I think he'll be back soon.

The Dirk Gently books weren't that funny. Young me, high off the wit of THHGTTG and TRATEOTU (blimey) picked those up and found them tedious as hell. In fact, the only redeeming feature being the rude boy who says 'It's bleeeeedin' obvious, innit?'

The TV series was good (and the monochrome graphics for the Guide entries were marvellous and suited it all perfectly) but suffered from the same problem so many classic British TV comedies did - hilarious dialogue, but read aloud in hard to hear voices with a lot of background noise (see also: reading the inflight magazines while they crash Starbug in Red Dwarf)

Absolutely not. Some old Uni friends of mine can't afford to go to Sci Fi conventions and the like anymore so are doing one in their own home - sounds shit but if anyone can make this sort of thing a laugh and not-shit, it's these people. Lots of people going. I've been roped into doing a HHGTTG bit and will be showing an episode or two there. I still love 'em.

I also liked the film, for the most part.

We're right until they give up the pretence of speaking English (which the English obviously define by default) and admit to speaking American.

I prefer the original two radio shows to the books. They were tighter, funnier and better paced. Great books, though.

Do not, under any circumstances, listen to the (relatively) recent third series of the radio show. It's absolutely terrible.

I couldn't get into the tele series, the radio was was ok for about 20 mins, then I got bored. Loved the boks, but that was more than a few years ago now, if anyone hasn't read it and would like HHGTTG or TLDTTOTS give me a nod (I'm having a clear out).

I couldn't stand THHGTTG books either, to be honest. For much the same reasons as Mr Chris.

I didn't mind the film at all, but that might have something to do with a certain Ms. Deschanel.
