I read in a local weekly magazine that honeybees all over the world appear to be disappearing quite rapidly over the past few years. No definate cause has been found despite much research into the issue, but it can be blamed partly on pesticides, even the "friendly ones", which are actually found to be causing the bee equivalent of AIDs.

It doesn't sound like much of a problem, but apprently this huge decrease in the bee population could consequently result in a huge decrease in vegetative production over the coming years..you're all intelligent lads, is it actually possible that losing our bees could have this kind of mass effect on plant production, or have the editors of the magazine just fabricated facts to make people like myself panic about nothing?

Well considering how many plants rely on insects to pollinate themselves, yes.

I'm sorry, did you say they were all dying of AIDS?

That'll teach them not to be so promiscuous.

"...the possibility is that although friendly insects like bees and ladybirds survive, their immune systems are affected, causing a bee equivalent of AIDS, this leaves the bees open to infection."

S'what the article says :)

Don't worry, they're actually aliens, and are going home.

I heard it was because of mobile phone radiation which was causing the bees to lose their sense of direction and not find their way back to the hive to do their dance to indicate the way to the pollen, which in turn meant those in the hive starved to death...

...or yes, they all got confused and had unprotected beesex and got HIVe, etc etc.

I read about this too, elsewhere.

Apparently it is a very big concern, as if the bees all die out, so do we.

Of course, the problem is made worse by... you guessed it! The beekeepers! Loads of them get paid a shedload to travel all around the country (and other countries) pollinating stuff in certain areas. This causes the bees to get lost more often or become more susceptible to DEATH.

Bah, and indeed humbug.

What's going to kill us all first?

Global Warming?
Dead bees?
Peak oil?
Sarah Palin?
MaliA?

It's all so complimacated.
