This thread has made me realise that I can't think of any games I'm particularly looking forward to. This has depressed me. :(

really? i had to make a list when looking at the 360 release schedule on eurogamer, for 2008 aswell.

Although I think a fair few of me list ar enow for 2009.

anyway here it is sorted into a nice, need, want maybe sort of grouping nonsense now with added descriptions.

need-

pro evo 2009 17/10/2008 generic football update, love it.
mirrors edge 01/11/2008 fancy looking fps with element on platforming than shooting
guitar hero world tour 07/11/2008 rock band 0.5 again love it.
left 4 dead 07/11/2008 half life with proper zombies, and online co-op, also has random set pieces happen.
call of duty world at war 07/11/2008 more call of duty, hopefully the online will be just as good, now contains vehicles.
all points bulletin N/A most likely 2009 crackdown developer makes the 'real' gta online

want-

things on wheels-mad tracks sequel
midnight club LA-the better than NfS racer gets its first next gen treatment
dead space-alien like 3rd person survival horror with puzzles based on gravity
gears of war 2-much more fo the same it seems but co-op was fun in original
far cry 2-open world fps, with multiple branched storylines quite interested in how this will work
banjo kazooie-platformer returns with added make a fun vehicle thing
prince of persia-looks pretty fucking amazing, again open world but with the princes acrobatics.
dead island-again open world fps, but with zombies and also condemned style melee cracking skulls force.
brutal legend-new tim schaffer action platformer based on metal, sure to be excellent for 2009 though.
red faction 3-blah blah sandbox game, strangely now in 3rd person, destructivre environments still its hook.
fallout 3-really looks amazing, kind of reminds me of bioshock with characters and environments, like oblivion without the boring and shit combat.
prototype-crackdown 1.5 with more superhero type powers, open world.
Saints row 2-GTA's stupid young cousin who likes fart jokes and blinging it up.

might-

viva pinata 2-more viva pinata, need to have a bigger go on the first one yet though
pure-ssx meets atv racing, demo on live, very fun, getting this on rent from lovefilm
brothers in arms-ww2 fps, im not a big ww2 games fan so doubful on this one.
baja-another off road game that doesnt have tracks. more of a dajar rally kind of thing.
duke nukem 3d-xbla port of the original.
legendary-fps with griffins and shit, made by turning point people bound to be shit.
fifa 09-generic football update, demo on live, im unsure feels pretty boring feature list sounds good though. 10 v 10 online modes, and a update system that changes players stats on how they play each week.
fable 2-bound to be boring and shit, on the list just incase peter actually puls it off for once.
velvet assassin-spy fps i think, potential to be good but I hate stealth so probably not.
fracture-fps with unique feature of terrain deformation, demo on live next thursday im not holding any hope on this.
new tomb raider-might be good, never know, yet to check out legend or anniversary though
new silent hill-not sure, never really got into the silent hill games before and would like to try one properly.
new sonic-videos look great, bound to be ruined by daft werewolf mechanics.
just cause 2-pretty much mercanaries 2 but ill play any open world game.
hydrophobia-saw some videos about the water physics and it looked impressive although I havent seen anything else about it, probably wont be out till next year.
saboteur-seems like this has been delayed quite a bit so could be cancelled. was like a ww2 resistance group thing, where the game starts in black and white and the more freedom you create the more colour that emerges into the graphics.
splinter cell conviction-saw a video for this a while back that looked really impressive and didnt seem stealthy at all, been delayed loads so dont know what the crack is, probably out next year.
chronicles of riddick-remake of the xbox game, which i didnt get to play so i thought id wait for the update pretty one.
the wheelman-vin diesel again, looks quite a fun racing thing.
lego batman-lego and batman bound to be fun with the nephew.
50 cent-story sounds daft as fuck, and the games meant to be looking alright, possibly an oldschool action movie kind of feel.
this is vegas-gta with less fighting and more partying apparently, possibly shit but ill give it a try.
postal 3-just see what all the fuss is about

fallout 3 and saints row are pretty close to the need list, and I might buy them depending on how much I get of student finances this year.

All the games I was really looking forward to came out last week.

Most anticipated is, as always, Animal Crossing Wii, but I can't let myself get too excited about it until there is a semi-realistic release date.

That means you are not excited bout MIRRORS EDGE.

Bad Joans Bad!

Personally:
Mirrors Edge 360
Mad World Wii
Major Minors Majestic March Wii
Wario World: Shake Wii

Thats more Wii games than 360 games, that doesn't make sense.... Oh, and a huge bunch of games already out that I don't own yet.

I think I need to include some game sites in my daily browsing. I don't buy any magazines any more, so long gone are the days of seeing previews of stuff months before it comes out, getting really excited and then buying a load of shit.

Runcle's list is mostly sequels or stuff I haven't heard of.

I'm sorry everyone.

Yeah, but rather that than getting all hyped up over games that then disappoint you.

Not buying games for at least a few months in order to get them 10 to 20 quid cheaper means that I avoid most hype now days thankfully.

Spotted a few more I'm interested in on Runcles list, but I'll be waiting for demo's and peoples impressions.

Which reminds me, I had tremendous fun with the Pure demo, will be getting that a some point too.

ah yeah pretty much all the games on my list are subject to reviews and demos, and many of them will probably get chucked off it because of said demos and reviews. Also most of them will end up being rented because I havent gto a garden to grow money trees and I havent got a job so my need list is the ones I probably will buy and the want list Ill probably buy a few off there, its usually online games that are the ones worth paying for.

I think Bezzie Left 4 Dead could be FANTASTIC.

Unfortunately all the Bezzies are richos who like buying £40 games so will have all played it by the time I get it. :(

BUT there is a demo, and maybe if LewieP comes through....

Colonisation 2, that valve zombie game, Fallout 3 (no, really. I'm interested to see what comes of it, good or ill), Cletus Clay (seriously, goddamn it), Starcraft 2.

Resi 5 is the main one and Fifa 09.

I'm going to stop getting excited about games now that Army of Two, AssCreed and Mercenaries 2 have been a bit averagey.

I played Mirror's Edge and it is exactly as good as it looks. Probably my most anticipated game.

One thing I didn't like, it does in some places have the Unreal Engine 3 trademark "Vaseline walls".

This one actually sounds like it might be something new!

Starcraft 2, I may actually have to update my PC to run this, but it will be worth it (please!!)

Just Fallout 3, really, though Puke Dukem 3D will be nice to play again. Though if they censor all the tentacled women and strippers it'll be a HUSK OF ITS FORMER SELF.

All of these. Plus any of the list of delicious shmups that are either out now or coming soon in Japan. Of course, pretty much none of them will receive western localisations (given Raiden 3's track record, North America might get Raiden 4 in about 2013) but I'm an eternal optimist. Certainly, I'd sell at least a kidney, and possibly my sexual dignity to the person who takes a gamble on localising Raiden Fighters Aces in the west.

Apart from shmups, Mad World definitly looks intriguing, and I'm keeping an eye of Fallout 3, but that's about it. Not interested in that Mirror's Edge thingy at all, I'm afraid.

I had a dream about Shenmue last night. I was playing some new Sega game and in it you could choose to unlock other Sega games so I went for Shenmue and immediately went off to play the darts mini-game. So I was playing a game within a game within a game within a dream. :S

I expect the mention of vaseline and the case artwork for Mirror's Edge will now have Meaty running full pelt to his local games emporium to pre-order now.

I don't know if you have played many games on the Unreal Engine 3 (and to some degree modern games in general), but there is a trend for walls, and character models to look like they are covered in vaseline. This is present to some degree in Mirror's Edge.

Mirror's Edge, Rock Band 2, Fallout 3, Empire: Total War and Champions Online.

Prototype and Dawn Of War 2 slightly less so. Guitar Hero World Tour slightly less so than that.

Ah, yes. Doom3? Every metal surface appeared to be made out of grey, gooey plastic.

ps: I thought you might have been talking about how the character interacts with the walls in a game-break wall-running* manner.

Wall-running as in that thing you used to do in quake, where you strafe into a wall and you go faster due to shonky physics, rather than the running-on-the-wall-like-it's-the-floor business that actually happens in the game.
