Moany moany thread alert.

I was talking to my brother via 360, sent a few voice messages, and half way through a chat with my little brother, the stupid useless 360 headset just stops working.

:(

Oh, and we were having such a fun chat, too. Double :(

Are there any better alternatives to the original 360 headset? I have always treated it nicely, and yet it just shunned me half way through fun.

They are so expensive ?:|

I bought a preowned one from Gamestation for something silly like £2.50.

They've changed the new ones. My little brother bought a new one and it doesn't have the volume control on the bit that connects to the pad anymore, it's halfway up the cable to the headphones. Like some personal stereo headphones with an "inline remote". Dunno if they've made them more durable, though.

I have heard that MS will send you a new one if you phone and whinge about it "snapping" and your eggbox is still in warranty. A work colleagueuegeue has managed to get 5 out of them so far.

Really? I will give that a go, thanks Dimrill. I will see if there is one in Gamestation either way, as I am sure that a spare will come in handy for the next inevitable breakage.

I've got three, a black new model which came with my Elite, a cream new model which came with my controller keyboard and a third one, old model with the volume wheel on the connector, which came with my 360 webcam.

So if you are thinking of buying any of the above, you'll get another thusly.

Perhaps because they person who traded it in had sweaty, hairy ears. Bleurgh.

Honestly, though, the hygiene factor would put me off a preowned one.

Don't hoover up your headset! They are not built for it, and it makes a horrible smell.

(I hope we get the PGC4/message pad/sub bundle in the uk - that's so cheap)

I hoovered up the 12 mile long lead to the wii sensor bar once. It does stink.

It still works though.

Going to go and see gamestation now (pre-owned is OK for me as I am allergic to that foam stuff on headphones and so have to take the old one off and make some cotton ones, anyway, which cuts down on any unhygienic problems.

OK, to the busmobile!

My mother vacuumed up (with one of those canister vacuums that has powered rollers in the 'head' or whatever you call it) the headphones for my minidisc player. Luckily, the remote control didn't follow them in.

As they were intended to be plugged into said remote control, the cable was only half length, and the Sony shops down on Tottenham Court Road advised me that due to it being a decidedly specialist item, it was going to cost me something like £50 for a new set. Or I could just buy a normal length set for £5.

Why is that cable so bloody long anyway? When I tidied up all my A/V cabling I was there for ages coiling it up.

So it can reach to the top of wall-mounted TVs.

My jaunt out on this sunny Sunday to try and find a 360 replacement headset were fruitless. They didn't have a second hand one, but then they never had a new one either. The Game(station? Can't remember which) on Wembley High Road is a joke to the retail industry.

"Excuse me, do you happen to have a 360 headset?"

"Er, I'm not sure. Do you mean the earphone thing with the microphone?"

"Yep, that's the one"

"Er, I don't know, actually. Trey, do we have one of those microphone earphone things that you put on like this (does mime) for the 360?"

"I don't know, let me look. Um..."

etc.

Why? Why would you not know. Did everyone at that shop only start working there today? No. I know this because they have been there for years, and yet not only are they unsure if they are in stock but somehow they are unsure about what one is.

Do I just think it is a game shop? Maybe I am hallucinating and it in fact sells nothing but novelty glassware.

Poo.

They sell novelty green plastic clams. There's a shiny oyster inside.

Do you still need a headset Meems? I'm sure I've got a spare kicking around that you can have if you want?

Aww, Gaz, that's incredibly kind, but I am borrowing one for the next few days and I really think you should keep hold of your spare in case yours goes 'poof' any time soon. I am lead to believe that they do so depressingly often. I have to go to Brent Cross tomorrow, and I'll have a look in Game whilst I am there. As my purse was stolen I am unable to buy things on the interweb for a while, until my cards are replaced, but looking on the internet the price for a 1st party headset from game is only £14.99, and their own version is £7.99. I thought that the 360 headsets were about £24.99, so it isn't quite as bad as I thought, if I can find one in stock somewhere!

I may have to post it to someone to get it out of the packaging, mind. If it's packaged in anything like the same way as the wireless controller (pink!) that I bought was it'll need a circular saw to get into that packaging.

Fair enough. I never use either of mine though (don't play online much these days) so the offer's there if you want one.

There's always tons of 3rd-party headsets cheap on t'Ebay, Mimi. With the added bonus of being previous-sweaty-earsless.
