Dunno, but whatever it was it looks like it slowed him down. Damn.

Also: what the fuck is the driver of that black car doing? They can't possibly have seen anything, so they're just causing an obstruction. Book 'em, Dan-o!

Sometimes when buses drive past I briefly imagine what it would be like to do exactly what he did there. Apparently this morbid curiosity isn't that uncommon.

It looks like he didn't actually think to check if any traffic was coming, and just hurled himself over the railing...

No, he tried to just hop the railing onto the curb, but one of his feet hits the top, tipping him into the bus.

Aye. I just meant that it probably wasn't "morbid curiosity" in action. :p

A split second earlier and he would have had his melon squashed. Brrrr.

You know what that is don't you? The urge to jump is a leftover instinct from when we were monkey-things, swinging from tree to tree. One part of your brain goes 'Ooh! This would be a good place to jump from!' and the other bit thinks better of it. They reckon that's where vertigo comes from, the conflict that occurs in the brain.

Surely a monkey would also be wrong, given the absence of anywhere to leap to?

I see this all the time, as the area around Cardiff Central Bus/Train station has been blocked off while the demolish the old bus station building, meaning loads of people going to buses, shops or the trains hop over the barriers or walk where there is no long a sidewalk.

In spite of the excellent 'PEDESTRIANS DO NOT WALK IN THE ROAD' signs, people still do and narrowly avoid being smushed.

There was also a young lad up in Treorchy a year or so ago who leaned out over the edge of the platform while listening to his headphones. Unfortunately, he looked the wrong way and so the train smashed his head.

I thought it was the aprt of the brain that thinks of the darker possibilities and actions, also the part of the brain that makes us laugh at dark stuff/black humour, like some clueless bint getting killed in a slasher film or taboo subjects.

Sorry, am I the only one who was paying attention here or something?

He was being chased. By a kid who clearly wasn't his friend screwing around, because he deliberately walked off to avoid getting in trouble when the kid got hit, instead of going to help.

Honestly people, switch off the Daily Mail-o-tron before you post. Not all teenagers are idiots. Although the ones walking in the road for no reason should have been hit instead.

Rapid walking before a possible chase = better chance of getting away without guaranteeing a full-on chase will happen. Bullying fuckwits are like dogs, see.

Nevertheless, he's still a bit of an idiot for launching himself straight into the side of a bus. What's wrong with running left or right?

True, but people panic, man. It could have been a good escape otherwise - walk to the barrier, then leap and leg it. You'll get a head start, they may not bother leaping, and they might get cut off by the traffic. A calculated risk. Poorly calculated in this case, mind.

It's an interesting viewpoint SA, but I can't really read too much into that second or two of footage. He could have seen a rare Pokemon card on the opposite side of the street for all I know. Sure, the other kid runs away, but that would probably be my reaction when I was a kid.

It's no more or less likely than assuming he was being an idiot just because he looks young, is all.

5) Strongly Disagree

Unless there's a link to this story, which would almost certainly have come out if it was happening, I can't see that from the video one little bit.

The original article says he's made a full recovery.
I know there's the chance that he's so scared of the bully/bullies he doesn't want to implicate them, but you'd have thought for the sake of pride he might say he was being chased rather than let everyone think he jumped into a bus.

I'm not discounting the idea of a bully chase, but from the evidence presented anything could be the cause is all I'm saying. The parents have obviously seen fit to release the footage as a warning about taking road safety for granted, and other than that the footage is all we have. Extrapolation on the facts is fine, but without more proof or a statement from the boy in question it's only ever going to be guess work. Bully chasing, pokemon card avarice, twat headed stupid child, invisible malfunctioning jetjack. All guess work, but it's fun, is it not :D

The boy's father is a bull, and the sudden movement of the bright red bus enraged him. Even though he hit the blue bit. Shut up.

Actually, if he hadn't fallen over, he'd quite possibly have been alright. It could even be that it was his face hitting the floor that knocked him out (he certainly appears to be zonked), not the bus.

Yeah, I think that's what broke his nose. Lucky really, because if he wasn't sparko he could have moved enough to place something vital under the wheels :S Doesn't bear thinking about *shudders*

If it was a bully chase, I hope the bastards that were chasing him are arrested and prosecuted. And I mean 'prosecuted', not told off and given detention at school.

I doubt that's the case, though. Remember, the CCTV was released by the police, and they'd have access to a lot more footage than we saw. If he was being chased, they'd have noticed and said as much in the news release.

It does make you wonder why bullying isn't a criminal offence. Even if it may not be the cause of this here sillyness ;) Maybe he'd stolen the other child's pokemon card and was nonchalantly trying to sidle away...
