NOOOOOOOO - the Alan Parker-directed Gary Oldman made-for-TV movie I referenced earlier in the thread.

Christ, that makes a bit more sense, then. Still, whatsisface Hackman can be dead scary.

I watched The Firm when it was on telly. I didn't find it scary, but then I didn't live anywhere near gangs of football hooligans.

The remake is also very good.

Small children are inhernetly terrifying. Especially when they appear in alleyways holding dolls (e.g. in Flatliners).

Including Omen IV in the "moderately scary" category?

Oooooh, crystals!

Indeed.

Fucking wasn't. It was just a bit minging. The little girl bit her daddy's throat out, for goodness sake.

EDIT - though I imagine that anyone going through a birth shortly afterwards would be crossing their fingers in the waiting room and subvocalising "please don't be zombie baby please don't be zombie baby".

Wasn't her daddy - the girl was from next door.

FUCK!
I just remembered, when I went into to the Grimlet's room last night at about 3am the bulb in his lamp had gone, so I had to find my way to his cot in the dark. No problem, but as I was setting off across the room my idiot brain decided to cough up the very first scene of Supernatural. Fu-uk.

I've been thinking about this a bit and from most of the other posts, it seems that we're most susceptible to scary movies when we're younger. I used to be freaked out completely by quite banal movies when I was a kid but nowadays, though I don't go out of my way to watch torture porn or slasher flicks, I'm struggling to think of anything I've watched that has been genuinely scary in the last ten years.

I've watched some disturbing fims.
Oldboy and Irreversible spring to mind, as does Baise Moi, but they're not scary.

I can remember having recurring nightmares about the xenomorph from the original Alien which I saw for the first time when I was about 12 or so.
But it tends to be the classic haunted house B&W movies that freaked me out more than anything as a kid, not the slasher flicks that started appearing in quantity in the late 70s and early 80s.

I still think Night of the Demon is a spooky film (based on a M R James short - Casting The Runes) and even the comedy horrors like The Cat and The Canary spooked me as a kid.

There's only 3 Omen films. There may have been others that have come into existence, but they have not been officially acknowledged by me and so are not covered by any comments I may make about "The Omen films".

In terms of films that scared me when I first watched them:

Alien - I watched it as a kid the first time it was on telly, couln't sleep for a week. It must have had some deep resonance as I still have 'Alien' dreams more than 20 years later
Legend of Hell House - The finest Haunted House film ever made. Fantastically creepy. If you've not seen it then seek it out immediately.
Don't Look Now - The end....BRRRRRRRR...the end
Blair Witch Project - The whole thing is rather creepy
Ring - Keep away from the telly
The Eye - Probably creepier than Ring
The Wizard of Oz - At six years old, screaming flying monkeys are fucking scarey.

M R James is Mr Scary. The haunting scene in 'Whistle & I'll Come to You Lad' is genuinely creepy. Superbly done in the Michael Horden adaptation, though in that there's a rational reason behind it all, being that Mr Horden is bonkers through no-sex.

I had recurring nightmares about being chased by the beastie for years - they eventually became fun and they they stopped in my early 20s

Unsurprising really. I think I freaked my daughter out by making her watch this when she was younger. She now loves horror films in a girlie fashion - i.e. her and about four mates squeezed onto the sofa with cushions at the ready for hiding and much squealing.

Was that the one with the 'Wheelers' and 'Tic Toc?' I think someone has him as their avtar (can't remember who-he'll probably be on this topic and I'll look daft now) so if that's the one you mean then yeah it is scarier than the first!!

It's a whole lot worse if yo watch things drunk aswell-although sometimes it can go two ways and be funny
