Nonsense. She chose a career where she gets to lounge around looking pretty in pretty outfits. There is, and never will be, any inherent responsibility in a career like modelling. There's a degree of responsibility in the agencies that tell them what to look like and what to wear, but that's about it.

You'll never turn someone into a role model just because you want them to be. We should be concentrating on positive role models, not bemoaning the negative ones whilst simultanously lapping up every drop of media spewn tittle-tattle which just encourages their behaviour.

At the level she is at, she gets work (and large amounts of cash/massive yachts) by being a famously known name and face. That makes her a public figure, which means she is responsible for her actions in a wider scope than a regular person in a regular job. The fashion magazines, and Debenhams catalogue are full of models who have little or no public presence, they are not Kate Moss, they're not an icon that young girls look up to, and hope to be like, starting with snorting lots of coke.

Surely her (and other celebrities) private life is none of our fucking business any more so than any other person, except that the media have decided to try and make it our business?

Unless someone is going out specifically to try and get publicity (Amy fucking Winehouse, whose best song is her singing a cover of someone else's song that's then credited to someone else) surely their falling on their arse after drinking 15 pints of bitter should be of no more interest than you or I falling on their arse after drinking 15 pints of bitter.

And I think that it's idiotic of our society to put that expectation on those who clearly have no intention of laying that expectation on themselves. The idea that because she is a public figure she should behave as if she was some sort of surrogate parent is nonsense.

And the implication that we as people should somehow look up to these utterly unremarkable and frequently abhorrent people just because the newspapers won't shut up about them is mad and more than a little insulting.

So the concensus is, that it's the medias fault for publicising peoples private lives in the first place?

I think I agree with that, but up to a point. E.g. if someone is stupid enough to be seen doing illeagal things in public, then that is their public life and not their private life. If you see what I mean.

I for one don't follow the clebs, but I can see why people do, same reason that they watch soaps really, so understandble why the media do what they do, not that it makes it right of course.

I see what you mean, but that's not really it, is it? I could fall out of the pub, vomit into a bin and then stagger down the street shouting 'TARTS!' at all the women coming the other way (and have done) but it won't be in the paper. And then do the same thing the following night, uprooting a keep left sign and pissing into it. And so on, with new crazy things on a regular basis.

But it likely won't be in the papers. But some stupid actress or model or whatever is seen coming out of some pub and has maybe guzzled a bit too much Grey Goose vodka, COVER OF 'STUPID FUCKING COW' magazine, 'Celebrity x's DRINK SHAME!!!'

What's the big deal? If I was a massive success and had worked very hard for that success, I'd feel damned entitled to go out and enjoy myself. In much the same way that I'm not much of a success, and have worked for that something of a success, I feel somewhat entitled to go out and enjoy myself (and have done).

Not quite. It is our fault as a society for believing that people who are famous, whether they are made so by cynical actions of the media or their own attention-seeking behaviour, are people who should be looked to for an example for how to live your life. We should be teaching our children what things there are to learn from everyone, and that high-profile people are just as likely to provide a lesson in how not to live your life as they are to provide a lesson in the right way to do so.

In my thinking, of course.

The thing is, someone must be buying all this crap. Some people must care about it. What is it? 4 million people buy the sun newspaper?

I have no idea how many people buy heat magazine and the like. I'm sure ABC can tell us?

less that 1/2 a million. So, for the sake of less than 1% of the population we all have to suffer the entertainment press going on about crap like that.

Oh my word, the solid gold Kate Moss statue that made me start this thread has now been revealed.

Quote:

Kate-fucking-moss is the ideal beauty? Shoot me now.

Clearly this perv fancies her and decided to make a statue of her in the position he'd most like to bang her in.

It's an ugly statue.

Why would you waste all that precious metal on something so visually unappealing? I hope the £1.5M is the cost of the gold alone, and nothing more :S

I can only assume he didn't have enough gold available to sculpt a woman with a figure.

these kind of women are "supermodels" just because every fashion designer is gay and value them as objects. If there were straight fashion designer we would see jenna jameson and tera patrick as supermodels.

I do admit Kate Moss has a pretty face, but so have dozens of girls i see every day on my way to work.

Is it because she's older? I think older women look better a lot of the time. She's great :)

I like that girl from the Labyrinth aswell, I'll remember her name...Jennifer Connely?

I think it's because she's got a horrible accent and a really annoying, stiff little mouth. Although that could be a good thing in very specific circumstances.

Jodie Foster is very tight lipped and almost talks from the side of her mouth. I do not think she is particularly attractive, but she Played Tallulah in Bugsy Malone, and that makes her great. I also played Tallulah in Bugsy Malone on stage, so I must be great by association. :smug:

Jennifer Connolly is very pretty. She's almost pretty and beautiful.

I have never seen her in anything not fully clothed. Actually, I have not seen her in many films at all, yet she always seems to be bubbling under in the media. I actually have only seen her in labyrinth and some horrible scary film about a water tower, which seems to always be on TV and had Pete Postlethwaite playing a Polish caretaker. Someone here must have seen it as it is always on TV

It's the Running Man, isn't it? I'm sure Pete played the part of the man who was running. Right masculine and perambulatey, he were.

Jennifer Connolly is very pretty. She's almost pretty and beautiful.
But compromised her struggling film career by getting her baps out as much as possible. A great and serious actress this does not make. Look what happened to Demi Moore after Striptease.

This. I've never had a thing for any famous person, but after seeing Jennifer Connelly in Blood Diamond and House of Sand and Fog, I came pretty close. She's a fox. I didn't even realise she was the girl out of Labyrinth.

Also, I had no idea she'd done nudey bits. That only compromises you if you make really shitty nudey films and/or get typecast. Her career seems pretty good so far as well, to be honest.

these kind of women are "supermodels" just because every fashion designer is gay and value them as objects

This. The only interest fashion designers have in women is as walking coat hangers. They know fuck all about basic physical attraction, let alone beauty.
