4.5 years properly.

Before that there was a period of being on and off - she went to live abroad for a year and we realised it would be silly to stay together as we had only just got together.

So we got together so slowly that we don't have an anniversy! HUZZAH!

Mutual decision that a bit of space would be good. Highly intelligent dealings.

Also, just over 3 years here.

Their romantic relationship? I've had 'a relationship' with Mr Chris for 7 years longer than with my wife. And with his wife for 8 years longer than that.

I have nuddy photos of the pair of you and another girl. Oh yes.

Yet another unhappy relationship on the poll! Man, this is making me really sad. I can just imagine the heavy heart with which that button was clicked, perhaps with a small accompanying sigh.

*sobs*.

But on the upside, a doubling of choice for our not so mysterious impending divorcee.

Yes, I know the poll shows one entry for that, as I have eyes and I've already commented on it some while ago. I was querying the "not so mysterious" bit, you buffoon.

Flis and I have been together for coming up to 9 years and married for nearly 6 (I think)

Im amazed we've been together this long as I am so good at "doing her noy in"

Congrats Ian, unless of course you're in the unhappily married section.

Thanks folkses... we're separating at the moment so will be divorcing in a few years. We're still friends but it's weird being around her at the moment. I'm moving out next week though so hopefully I'll feel a lot better after that.

Meh :(

Very shitty sir, you have my sincerest sympathies. It's a cliche, but things will get better. Myself and my ex-fiance had a horrendously messy breakup, but we've been friends now for quite a while. Hard to believe there was such animosity now! The only downside being our friendship makes it tricky for either party to truly move on.

Edit: Duds, my apologies. The rest of you are still cunts though.*

Try to think of the things you'll be able to do in your new digs that you couldn't before. Rough times call for the squeezing of the maximum amount of joy from the tiniest things. It can go a long way.

Good luck, man.

Living by yourself is awesome, I know.

For the last 3 weeks I've had a deilirious kind of existance where I stumble home from work, eat the tastiest looking patch of dirt off the kitchen floor, and then play EVE until 2.30am at which point I sleep briefly before getting up, a zombie, and going into work, occasionally logging in to EVE to change skill training. I'd have never been able to do this while chained down by the expectations of a live-in partner ;)

"I'm still the champ-eee-on!" :D

I've only lived on my own very briefly. I left home to live a student life, and met my partner there. After graduating, I lived alone for a year or so in a Ludlow bedsit before setting up house with my partner. We've lived together ever since.

I lived on my own for ten years or so. I prefer living on my own to living with anyone except my wife. Living with my wife is like living alone, but with great company. If you know what I mean.

Be nice to be able to come close to being able to afford to live on my own. It's not just the doubling of rent, it would involve a trebling of my council tax and not doubt a rise in most utility bills too.

I do manage my bills v. strictly. and have a seperate 'bills' bank account where all the DD's are set up. Helps me realise exactly how much living costs a month, and also means if some fucking company tries to take £500 or something unexpectedly, it won't work and won't leave me without cash until the problem is sorted.

Oh, hehe, no, I don't mean that. I mean, why when people are asking who's been together the longest do you only count the eight ears that you have been engaged? By that measure Craig and I have never been together, though we have for seven years :p

I think he meant they have been together for 13 years, but only engaged for 8 years. I don't think he was using the length of the engagement as the length of the relationship - just offering it up as extra information. :)

I read the way you phrased it wrongly

I read:
Quote:
13 years with the missus, been engaged for.... 8 or so, yes 8.

as:

13 years with the misses, been engaged for.... 8, so yes [we've been together for] 8.

Whereas what it seems you actually wrote and my morning brain did not compute was:

13 years with the missus, been engaged for.... 8 or so, [hold on, let me count properly how many years we have been engaged], yes 8.

Sorry, just me not reading it correctly.

Thanks folkses... we're separating at the moment so will be divorcing in a few years. We're still friends but it's weird being around her at the moment. I'm moving out next week though so hopefully I'll feel a lot better after that.

I dunno the circumstances surrounding your split, but I know exactly what you're going through (being a divorcee), especially with the weird atmosphere at home and moving out before she does.

Ian Cognito said something very apposite.

"When a girl splits up with a bloke, she sits down in front of a special video with some tissues and some chocolates. Us blokes, we do the same. But without the chocolates."
