I was thinking this, but I'll be on holiday for the first week it runs.

Directed at everyone, when you say "write a book" do you mean actually "write a story that's long enough to qualify as a novel" or "have a book published and in shops and everything"?

The former, because the latter is dependant on too many things that just aren't under my control.

*EDIT - to be honest, I'd have to correct the former to "write a story that's long enough to qualify as a novel and that at least 3 unbiased people have said isn't a crock of shit".

I think only six people have completely read my novel, not including myself.

My wife. My grandmother-in-law. My mum. My dad. The daughter of some friends of the family. An Internet friend of mine.

Half British, half American. My mum and my dad seemed to like it as much as they could ever like anything in the genre (not an awful lot), the other four all seemed to enjoy it a lot.

However, my brother and mother-in-law didn't give feedback, so I assume they didn't bother finishing it.

And I think all those sources probably count as biased, some more than others, obviously.

My bucket list is bascially to somehow turn my interest in skepticism, science, pseudo-science and religion into some sort of career.

I'm looking out for jobs in charities like the British Humanist Association and that. As that seems more likely than being able to turn Skeptobot into a cash generating kotaku-for-skepticism.

Otherwise I'm pretty content. I've got my lady, I've got my friends, and I don't really need much money.

My wife wants to climb Everest (seriously)....

It's very (very!) expensive, dangerous and obviously pretty gruelling and all that. I'm kind of hoping she forgets about it to be honest.

Or one more trip to Shunt.

It's a fair point. Put on 5 kilo (metres, I described it on Monday - it sounded wrong, but could I think of the right phrase?)s since February. Shunt may account for 3 of those.

The latter - but it's just a pipe dream I've not really got started on yet. I need to pull my finger out!

I had a dream a few months ago that I wrote a series of childrens books and Dimrill did the drawings. That was pretty cool. :)

Not for the children, I'm thinking.

You know what would be totally fucking ace? If we collaborated, right, on a detective story, where I write a day as the criminal, then give you a summary of the events of the day, including the actions of other characters and red herrings, etc. Then you write a day as the detective and do the same back. Then we repeat, until either you catch the criminal or the criminal wins, or simply gets away with it. Then we go strenuously through both for errors and plot holes, and compile them together as a super-experimental crime novel.

Also I can leech off your special crimino-stoppo-brains to make the detective in a different story I have in mind more plausible. And that.

Right, well, first of all we need a crime, and it's best to make it something you'd know how to investigate, or would at least know where to start. Picking or inventing a location would help, too, since that'll determine what sort of people will be involved. Man, I get good ideas at the worst time. I seriously can't get caught up in anything but work and a house for about a month.

Well I was taught how to investigate most things really, so whatever you want. To be specific it will take some additional research anyway, but that#s certainly not a problem.

When do you start your new job?

Do you want to continue to discuss it in this thread? If so I'll split it. :)

Or I could *cough* actually use MSN... maybe. :smug:
