Chinny - if you could only punch either Peter or Christopher Hitchens, which would it be?

I'd do in C Hitchens, the big wobbly faced sweaty cunt. As a bonus, if he hasn't shaved recently you could pretend you were also shoeing in David Aaronovitch.

Hmm, I'd still go with Peter.

Did you know David Aaronovitch's brother Ben wrote two Doctor Who stories in the late eighties? Almost certainly would have become script editor if the series had continued into 1990.

He wrote 'Remeberance Of The Daleks', which was always my favourite story as a kid. Then I made the mistake of watching it again last year. Time has been so cruel to the Sly McCoy-era. Or, indeed, any 80's Who.

In other news, I've just been playing the Quantum Of Solace demo for the PC. So far, it looks to be surprisingly not shit.

Ditto, really. Though, I'm in the miniority, but when I watched Silver Nemesis I found it a lot better than I remembered it. I forget why now, but I really enjoyed it! Then again, when you've got Paradise Towers*, Dragonfire and those other 'amazing' McCoy stories fresh in your mind, a snack is as good as a meal.

* the first Doctor Who I ever watched, excitingly, is the bit at the end of one episode, where one of the cannibal pensioners is 'eaten' by something attacking her from out the wall. I've already forgot again. I was terrified, couldn't sleep, and can still vividly recall my parents clucking that it's "not the same as it used to be"

Heh... whilst I defintely remember seeing some Peter Davidson-era Who with my parents back in the day, the earliest Doctor Who story I remember actually watching was also Paradise Towers. That very scene you mention gave me nightmares for weeks!

I cracked my ribs on the side of a wall last night, for I am a twat. Lifted very heavy boxes, pretending there was no pain, now feel like I have gone 10 rounds with a kangaroo :(

'My life...in boxes' that's how it was last night, very upsetting. Although I now have my two GIANT cuddly tigers here so they will scare Poppet ^.^

God I'm up early....need to beat Dudley to the shower again

The first doctor who I can remember is one of the doctors metamorphosising into another on a slag heap having been shot by a group of people. It is the first episode of a new series, but I can't remember which one (in fact, it may not have even happened).

Sounds like The Caves Of Androzani. Except it wasn't the first episode of a new series. It was the second to last story of season 21.

Here's a "next time" trailer for it.

Androzani is well worth seeing. It's easily one of the best Who stories ever, it has a cracking script, some great direction from Graeme Harper (the only old Who director to work on the new series) and Peter Davison gives the performence of his life.

It's been out on DVD for a while and can be picked up for as little as 5 or 6 quid. Well worth it.

But it's now of that age where it has that problem. 10/15 years ago alot of 70's Who was looked at the same way, but then it becomes "cool" again.

+ the show had so many problems. There are alot of good stories in there. It wasn't so long ago that people wrote off Colin Baker's era but actually there's alot of good stuff in there.

McCoys first season was pretty bad. All of it was done in a hurry and frankly Colin Baker would have worked far better in most of the stories (mainly because Colin was sacked so late in the day).

However the final season (season 26) of the series was something of greatness. Yes there was a lack of money, but suddenly the writer was king again. Battlefield suffers from a chronic lack of money. But Fenric, Ghostlight and Survival* are superb in every way and are Who back at it's best.

* Apart from the cats, natch.
By the way, you can walk around most of the Silver Nemsis locations at Arundul.

I dreamt that Bruce Campbell was living with us in our house, against our tenancy agreement and our neighbour - who hated Bruce - was going to report us to the landlord.

Also, I was in a stand-off with Lucy Liu, who was holding some of my Star Wars figures hostage.

Mine wasn't anything like a tarantula though, it was the kind that you'd only see in dreams or movies horror films about spiders. It was huge and brown. I hope no such thing exists (although if it does, I'm anticipating large pictures).

I dreamt that I was in Spain and that a preacher was standing on the balcony of my parents flat. In this dream my parents had moved from the 4th floor to the 1st floor as it was easier for my dad to get in and out of it after his heart attack/stroke. (they never moved in real life, and that doesn't make any sense as it doesn't matter if you live on the first floor or the 10th floor as it's just as easy to use the lift for either of them). The trainline that runs past their flats had been buried (there was talk of this happening in the next 10 years or so) making the road out side their flats much wider. This was filled with people listening to the preacher, he was talking about how good my parents were and how much they were missed, and how pleased he was with the number of people who had turned up to the speech. Then he ended by whipping of his cassock, and jumping from the balcony into the swimming pool. The crowd all cheered and rejoiced and then police came with batons and machine guns and started spraying the crowd with bullets. Then there was an air raid siren which woke me up as it was the sound of my alarm!

!

I had an awful moment last night when I thought the oldest inhabitant of my fishtank, a Giant Cameroon Armoured Shrimp, had died. Luckily, he'd actually just wandered out to the front of the tank, shed his skin, then wandered back into his hole.

I had a really weird dream last night!

It was about Mr.Chris! But not actually him, his avvy! I was in this park and it was really dark and I couldn't leave because there was the giant moth *shivers* blocking the way, it was dead, but still ucky. Mr. Chris came bouncing along in a tigger-like way and said, 'Hiya! We need to get out of here because there's this duck around and it's killing everything, like that poor moth' and he made it sound scary enough so I ran over the dead moth with him to go towards the quarry.

We were running for quite a bit (he bounced) and all of a sudden Mr.C started growling at something, it was this HUGE duck! It was the duck from 'Rosie and Jim,' with that rope sort of tied under it to form a base, it also had wheels on it so it could move...

There was loads more, but that's the jist of it

I swear to god I am never ever going into the ink wash room and taking a whiff of the cleaning solvents again

Possibly one of the finest handover notes ever, allegedly written by a trainee to the head of the corporate department in a major law firm after the trainee was asked to describe his role for the benefit of his successor:

Well, that was fun. I just had the joyous experience of moving 20 litres of dirty water from the outlet of my washing machine, to the sink using a baking tray. Let me tell you, for those in any doubt, a baking tray does not hold 20 litres of water, so this required numerous trips.

Fortunately, I have a JML super mop!

Hah! I have also had to do this. It's a lot quicker if you can pull the machine out and use the outlet hose to siphon most of the water into a bowl, then use the baking tray (I'm guessing under the drain flap on the front) for just the water below the level of the drain hose.

I couldn't get to any other outlet than the little pump one on the front, t'was most annoying. Turns out the thing blocking it was an elastic band wrapped around the pump blades!! Glad it didn't completely kill it, to be honest!

I am feeling my age lately. I had 4 pints of Abbot ale last night at the pub, and I've felt like crap all day today. Back in my early 20s I could regularly have a skinful and just feel a little warm in the morning.

Stupid getting older. Bah.
