I used to love SSX Tricky on my PS2. I especially enjoyed the music.

Wouldn't it be great if someone knew where to 'acquire' a copy of the soundtrack.... :hat:

SSX Tricky is one of the funnest most accessible games i've ever played. And the music was good.

I didn't like SSX games because some moves required pressing L1+L2 or R1+R2 and anyone who designs a game where you have to press two shoulder buttons on the same side of a Dualshock controller at the same time is a massive dick.

It's a snow-boarding game. You can do stupidly high jumps and mad 'Uber' tricks. There is a mode where you need to get as many points as you can ('Showoff' mode) and a mode where you race five other AI people ('Race' mode, natch). Winning these modes unlocks more riders, and hence, more tricks.
So, SSX Tricky is just like all other snowboarding games.
Until you turn the sound up.
The music in SSXT is fantastic. Do enough tricks and you can build your 'boost bar' to the top, and then you are in 'Tricky' mode. Run DMC's song 'Tricky' is seamlessly mixed into whatever music is playing and your PS2 screams "Tricky, tricky tricky!".
You fall in love with it instantly.
Whilst in 'Tricky' mode you can pull off absolutely crazy moves which can involve things such as leaning down, undoing your board straps, and doing a windmill break dancing move before landing again, at which point it shouts "TRICKY!" and you are on your way to stardom.
Everything else about the game is just as you'd expect from a PS2 sports game, fabby graphics, tons of options and stupid characters. The controls are a bit ropey at first (you need to use the left stick and the cursors sometimes which is next to impossible), but once you get the hang of them they work - kind of. And sometimes you fall over for seemingly no reason, and the AI players are (as always) much faster than you, and some levels can be frustrating to the point of lobbing the joypad across the room (not good when it's someone else's PS2)...
But then you land an Uber trick, it screams "Tricky!", fireworks go off and the crowd goes wild...
And you can forgive it everything.
SSX Tricky is fantastic.

By god SSX Tricky was a great game. SSX3 should have got a heck of a lot more love than it did, as well.

Aye, it was flippin awesome. We played it tons in multiplayer. I liked that it had a kerazee exaggerated style, but one that didn't get in the way of the actual game. So, if anyone has that soundtrack to lend - looks like you'd be pretty popular :luv:

I'm tempted to have a quick go on it later. Still, part of me worries it might not be the same without being early twenties and surrounded by mates and booze.

As a game I enjoyed SSX3 more than Tricky. But Tricky has Run DMC.

Damn, now you've made me want to play some form of SSX even though it's 2:38 am. Mainly because my girlfriend isn't around to ask me to play two player on tricky so she can beat me.

That doesn't sound too bad. To complete one of the challenges on Mat Hoffman 2 on the Cube, you had to ride up a ramp at top speed with the left stick, release A to jump off the top, spin with L or R while pressing one of the trick buttons, then half way up, you had to press Z and a different direction and then land it perfectly. Took me bloody ages.

Speaking of snowboarding games, is Amped 3 any good?

It's really excellent.

It's worth the price of admission just to watch the cut scenes. Any game that gets around the fact you haven't defined your character yet by showing them in a giant pink bunny suit during the intro gets my vote.

The snowboarding itself is, to me, at least as good as any of the SSXs, it looks fab and it's got a hell of a lot of crap to do.
