Shamelessly stolen from metafilter.

Music fans have known for a long time that Ian MacKaye's post-hardcore group Fugazi and the members of Shaolin-based hip-hop collective The Wu-tang Clan were really just two sides of the same awesome-sauce coin. So enter the mash-ups of -- wait for it -- WUGAZI!

My current jangly guitar indie band de jour is Two Door Cinema Club, who I think are rather great.

You can also get their album from Amazon on MP3 for 3 quid.

Bargain.

Really nice voice and that we forgot all about it untill we were listening through an old Matador Records Compilation.

Justin Sullivan - Bradford Stories

New Model Army's Justin Sullivan made some ambient (small 'a') backing music for a photographic exhibition in Bradford. About Bradford. Here it is:

This is both horrible and brilliant. Needs a remix ideally but there's some great synth action in there.

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a price war? Is it a price war?

I know Amazon are consistently undercutting iTunes to try to grab market share, but they're selling the brand new, released yesterday, Coldplay album on MP3 for 3.99!

Yeah, I know, you all hate Coldplay, lol, but that's interesting.

Nothing to do with Curio's (v. interesting) post, but rather than a story last night the Grimlet had "music appreciation time".
We listened to "Heads Will Roll" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and A-Trak. It's very good.

I'll see if I can find it.

Not sure if Markg has already mentioned them on here but The Phantom Bands album - 'Checkmate Savage' is brilliant. Listened to it a lot lately, best 'new' band I've heard in some time.

I'm not sure a thing about Coldplay can be interesting.

Apart from them ripping off Kraftwerk for that one song.

Having listened through a couple of times it just strikes me as so generic. The same build ups and overused riffs, and when they try and be interesting its just annoying. To me I if was remixing this (maybe when better) I'd keep the into and fuck with the drums.

Steve Angello Tivoli

This isn't bad and is in the similar vein of dreary prog house.

nice one. I very much enjoyed their later album The Wants, will look this up on Spotify. Reminded me a little of Mull Historical Society if Mark Lanegan had been the frontman and eradicated the twee.

Ha, we had a conversation about this (with Markg & Baz) apparently they did ask for permission first.

Carbon bloody copy though that chunk they took, should have had the artistry to make it their own. Mind you, I fucking hate Coldplay so whatevers.

Oh, I know they were upfront about it but, permission or not, it's still sad for a hook-based band to just lift the whole melody.

And Phantom Band! Got sent their CD in 2008, and still not listened to it! I know it's supposed to be awesome, but the Lan reference now makes me want to listen to it with great eagerness.

My band is playing in London if anyone around there fancies something to do on Friday 18th of November.
It's at the Bull & Gate on Kentish Town Road and were supporting a band called I Dream in Colour, £6 quid in.

Hopefully be able to put a song up on the net soon whenever it's finished.

To celebrate Halloween we’ve got something quite special indeed: an exclusive Halloween themed entry into our Juno Plus podcast series, provided by none other than Optimo’s JD Twitch.

JD Twitch should require no introduction. As one half of DJ duo Optimo (along with JG Wilkes), his extensive musical knowledge and record collection is formidable, and in the form of the Optimo podcast series has contributed some of the web’s most esoteric and well researched mixtapes, with recent mixes covering everything from astral jazz and gospel music through to an extensive overview of 22 years of UK bass music.

Those in the know will be aware that Optimo’s Halloween parties (known as Optimo Espookio) are the stuff of legend, with the night encouraging some wild costumes which go far beyond the tired zombie looks that seem to be the London clubber’s garb of choice come October 31. Of course Espookio isn’t merely an opportunity to dress up, it’s also a chance for the pair to play some of the spookier and more tongue-in-cheek tracks that make up Halloween and horror’s lexicon of music.

No tracklist is supplied, though we can say that it moves from neoclassical goth through post-punk and music from several generations of TV and film soundtracks. Although it’s undoubtedly creepy, there’s also a comforting side to it that evokes cosy memories of commercially driven, domestic Halloweens fuelled by sugar and ghost costumes cobbled together with bedsheets. Twitch was also kind enough to provide us with a bit of insight into the mix and what goes down at Espookio.

Nearly went up to Optimo last night, but it was yon time before folk down here got moving & the queues are always mental (the SubClub only holds around 400 folk)!

One good thing about the store I work in is that the music loop sometimes plays completely obscure and wonderful remixes - I've fallen in love with this one lately...

It's the only decent song on his album.

Best remix of an auld favourite remains High Contrast's mix of Something Good :)

That's a good one, but I like his remix of Time To Pretend by MGMT more.

^^
That's the original, not one ripped from the Annie Mac show like most of the others you might have heard.

This was used on a BBC trailer for 'How to Build'.

Amazing track that I often whistle but had forgotten who it was by.

Fucking beautiful.

I'm a big last.fm fan, and I like to muck around with various displays of dorky stats. This, though, would make an awesome festival bill. For me. My top 15 most-played artists (for some reason they lack logos for Wildhearts and Be Your Own Pet):

Somehow, one of the clubs over here has managed to get Pendulum to come over and play in February. In a 250 capacity venue. And they're not selling tickets. I'm expecting ridiculous entry fees, massive queues and over-crowding. It's going to be a fucking joke. I really wanted to go and see them when I first saw the announcement but I don't think I'll bother even attempting it now. Luckily, I have seen them live before so I'm not too gutted about it.

I need to get a fezzy in next year, very tempted by Download.

Chances are it's only one of them doing a DJ set anyway, and they're fucking terrible DJs.

Their live sets are incredible, but I'd be shocked if they're doing one of them in front of 250 people. I'm shocked they're turning up at all, to be honest :S

I'm a big last.fm fan, and I like to muck around with various displays of dorky stats. This, though, would make an awesome festival bill. For me. My top 15 most-played artists (for some reason they lack logos for Wildhearts and Be Your Own Pet):

That very much seems to be common opinion. All that's really been confirmed, is that they're booked for that date. The venue doesn't really lend itself to anything other than them doing a DJ set; seems like a massive wasted opportunity as there are venues that could play live, to thousands.

Meh.

Aye, I should be going to that. Sabbath, plus Metallica playing their best album.

I am bloody loving the album by 'Foster The People'.

Highly recommended.
