They did. It's just getting more attention now.

Isn't knife crime actually down?

Quite a lot of types of crime are on the way down, I read.

This wasn't the source, but I do enjoy playing around with this. Turns out Hillingdon is rougher and crimmier than Liverpool. Well, most of London is, to be fair. Also, this is a county full of pansies.

Wow - Nottingham is the second highest in the country for recorded offenses per head of population, second only to Westminster. That was Joans pissing in a bush, that was.

We went to see the White Horse. You can see even less of it from the ground than you might expect. Colour me more disappointed than I'd expected to be.

I used to live in Abingdon.

Nope. We were instructed that his reason ('I was decorating earlier and I forgot it was in my pocket') was not to be accepted.

Whaaa? What was he in court for?

He was on a separate charge of attempted mugging (no implication that he used or attempted to use the knife). We found him not guilty on that one.

So was he a scally, or some guy who got thrown in jail on a technicality? I mean, did he have shifty eyes and a low brow? Or are we going to throw in prison every tradesman who walks out of a house to their van while carrying a wallpaper scraper?

Hang on, what? You were instructed to ignore the defence? Isn't that kind of one-sided?

We were instructed that the reason he gave didn't constitute reasonable grounds for carrying it, yes. Tell me about it.

Aren't the jury there to decide what they think is reasonable? :attitude:

Apparently we were there to decide, given that he did not have a good reason for carrying an offensive weapon, whether he was guilty of carrying an offensive weapon for no good reason. I did complain about this, to no effect.

Seems more like they said "This black bastard needs teaching a lesson, so we're putting on a show trial and you'll do your bloody part, sunshine."

This is the problem with the Jury service, because if the court told me to ignore something I thought was highly relevant, I'd ignore the fucking court. If I didn't tell anyone, how would they know?

That's the thing - it's not a question of whether what he did was an offence or not, because it was, and categorically so. There is no reasonable doubt there. The only question is one of motivation.

Possession of an offensive weapon is an odd case, because it's one where presumption of innocense does not apply.
