Not the 3 wheelers. Those are normally owned by people who race them, in an even-more-psychotic-than-bike-race style. I don't rate the 4-wheelers.

Pretty much unrivalled performance/price, also you can buy a kit and build it yourself if you like.

I'm hopelessly shit at maths, but I think the formula isn't right. You're dividing the cost of the car by the number of seconds to get round the lap... which is fair enough for a 'cost per second' value... but this means the longer a car takes to get round the track, the better value it is. By that token, a skateboard must represent unbeatable value when it comes to wheeled transportation.

Er, oh yes.
You're completely correct.
It needs to be two minutes minus the time, of course.

What Mark said, really.

A Caterham doesn't make much sense until you drive one, in my experience. It helps to think of it as a four wheeled motorbike.

I saw a Veyron on Saturday in Berlin. They've got one in the VW showroom, along with a couple of Bentleys.

On the road I saw at least 3 Astons, at least a dozen 911s, a 'Vette C6(?) and a Stingray (one of those 60s ones that was on that GT Racers Dave showed), which I think was my spot of the weekend. Or maybe the BMW 760Li which had been thoroughly spunked on by AC Schnitzer.

I saw an Aston DB9 yesterday parked up in Bicester Village (although I doubt that's an especially unusual spot around there). It had extra vents on the bonnet though, which confused me. I'm fairly sure it wasn't a DBS.

Also, saw a Ferrari 348 Spider on the M25 this morning. You can pick one of them up for around the £25-30k mark, which may well be because it's not the best Ferrari ever made, but it's still a bloody Ferrari. And I quite like the look of the 348 - it's the not-so-missing-link in looks between the Testarossa and the F355.

EDIT: I take it back, it was a regular DB9.

You can pick up F355s for around the £25K-£30K mark (although admittedly towards the lower end of that it's probably a lemon).

I'd rather have the 355 than the 348.

Although the reason F355s are so cheap is, according to owners, because of all the stupid bodykits that get put on SW20 MR2s and the like.

I once saw someone trying to flog an MR2 on Pistonheads with a Ferrari 360 bodykit. It looked fucking atrocious.

Nah, I looked at some photos this morning and regular DB9's have the vents I saw, my memory was just being useless.

Australian relatives of the wife of one of my mates have recently come over here from Oz to buy an Aston Martin DB7 GT and ship it back over there. I've not actually been in it, but I've seen the car and it looks lovely... but I'm sure they paid something crazy like £50k for it. Who in their right mind would spend that much on a DB7 when they could get a DB9 for similar cash? Or is there something super-spanky about the GT model that I'm not aware of?

One of the ones I saw was a Vantage. Sounded nice when it came past us five minutes later. Not as nice as the Stingray, though.

One of the others had a green canvas roof. Really poor choice by the owner.

Does seem absolute crazy money for a DB7, which is a beautiful but old, deeply flawed car. Must admit that I don't know what difference a 'GT' is though - could be mega rare or something? That's probably one for Kalmar or Grim... to enlighten us on.

The 'standard' V8 sounds lovely - I should think the V12 is really something special. As for the 'Vette, that'll be the 7.2 litre 'long block' OHV V8 I believe; very old tech but quite some engine nonetheless! :)

Driving on a motorway isn't very fun though, I'd love the car to do that. What happens though if the driver has fallen asleep or is busy masturbating when the convoy gets to the end of the motorway?

It's a V12 with more horses, and a slightly different front end (the grill is different, I think). Different wheels, too.

Driving on a motorway 30 ft from the back of a lorry isn't especially fun. I can tell you this because I spent about 5 hours doing so, yesterday.

I spent most of the time, as usual, thinking of inventing a distance-sensing cruise control that does it for you.

That sounds horrible to me; no doubt 'automatic driving' will come, though - much of the tech already exists. That'll be the day I cease to be interested in cars, which will be nothing more than passenger carraiges. :(

Like the one in my Mondeo? Which was nabbed from Land Rover? And was originally from Honda (but that used a rather flaky radar version, rather than RADAR).

[edit]I don't actually have it on my Mondeo, but it's an option on all the 'new' (06) models.

Really? Want!

Although the car-train thing is better as you could actually sleep at the wheel.

Once they've done that they might as well install an electricity conductor in the road to run the car off.
