Yeah but 11 miles would be what, a litre or two?

If I could only get 43 litres into the tank then I still had something like 55 miles worth of fuel left. (On the last tank I averaged 36.5mpg.)

That's whack as fuck.

I love the final mod: 1.6 TDI Greenline badge installed. Man after my own heart :D

I think it's fantastic there are people out there who do this stuff, total hats off to them, but for the vast sums of money and hundreds of hours spent, why not just buy an RS6 and remap it?

Also, sorry to say but that Skoda has had a severe thrashing with the uggboat stick, I don't care how amusingly fast it can now go. The estate would be marginally easier on the eye - if you really must.

The RS6 starts at twice the price or more, and everyone expects them to be quick.
Half the fun he's had is being different.

I know it's meant to be a "sleeper" but it seems pretty clear that he actually enjoys the attention, in particular from fellow car enthusiasts. So in terms of bang for his buck you can't really fault his approach, what with all the forum threads and magazine articles.

Another regular on the same forum has a Yeti that's received a 2.5TFSI from a TT-RS.
It was running just over 500bhp but cracked a piston and is now being rebuilt to about 700.

Nah, I think he said in the thread that he's spent less than a new Merc E63, but that's still a fucktonne of cash in that case, and probably would be much more still, if you factored in "mates rates" turbos and other parts, all his 100s of man-hours for nowt etc., that the rest of us would pay for. That blue printed forged engine, custom manifold pipes, gearbox strengthening, third party Stage 3 turbo, all those dyno tests, fuellers, remaps... they all cost a fortune, yet he's still got a car that lacks all the trick diffs, brakes, aero, shell bracing etc that AMG and Audi RS division provide as standard.

It's great to see someone do this, but there can be little doubt that a second hand RS6 decatted, remapped and dynoed would be objectively better in almost every way. (It's not my cup of tea you understand - even at all - but if we're talking stupidly fast family saloon barges, this c.700bhp as standard, 4wd Audi estate wagon is where it's at)

I also wish he'd lavished this cash, expertise and time on a far better, more interesting donor car; say, a £37k Mustang V8 with really good low pressure turbo and overbore, cams etc., but I suppose the whole point of the exercise is to look innocuous and boring, which it certainly does. It's an amusing, but very expensive joke, but it's his time and money I guess.

Does anyone have Apple Car Play?

Thinking of putting one in my wife's car as she now has a 15GB a month data allowance on her phone

Have a questions on Google or I guess Apple Maps, are you able to store destinations in these apps as you can on a Sat Nav?

She has a lot of NCT\baby friends who she visit infrequently enough as to not remember the route, so she wants to store them all as she does in the Sat Nav

I use Apple Maps once in a blue moon if my in car Sat Nav can't find a somewhere due to out of date maps, but couldn't see how you can save destinations in there

Looked at them, but they're ridiculously expensive for what they are (£300-400). Got a £159 Pioneer Bluetooth double DIN touchscreen one instead.

Then today I ditched my iPhone so I'd have been livid.

New car eta is 25th October. Which will undoubtably slip a little but will still marry up with end of lease and most importantly before due date. :D

Given the last time my lease ended we left a two week gap between old car and nu car, and the boy got the cancers the day after the old car went back (I had to get an extremely expensive rental to go to oxford for a week and then come back to return it and pick up the new car) I'm rather keen to have no gaps in car ownership when the wife is ready to shit a baby out.

So here's where I've ended up with the whole 'keyless' scenario, I use the recess in the door-grabby thing to put my keys in, which is basically a less good ignition.

Also, I use the button on the outside door handle to lock the car when I leave it (it will lock if the key is in range when you press the button), so one of these days I'm obviously going to leave the key inside the car, get out, close the door, press the button, and lock it. (This is handy if you do keyless 'properly', and have the keys in your pocket, or something.)

Unless it's clever enough not to do that. Maybe I'll test it when I have the other key/blippy thing to hand. Oh but hang on since the key is still in range the button will just unlock it again.

Then again, since I now have to pick up my keys when I get out of the car, I should just use the blipper to lock it, then that situation can't arise.

Overall I give keyless 425/1000.

It's clever enough not to lock the keys in the car, or even the boot.

You'll need a long handled screwdriver, towel and a wire coat hangar bent to make a hook.

Put the towel on the roof by the top corner of the door, furthest from the hinge. Insert the blade of the screwdriver between the roof and the door, using the towel to protect the paintwork. Lever the door away from body just enough to get the coat hangar in. Fish for door lock, or key ring using the coat hangar. Unlock car and drive away.

Screwdrivers can bend the door skins. You're much better off with an airbag.

If this is testing whether it's possible to lock the keys in, just leave a passenger in the car surely?

I'm not sure if either Russell or I posted it here, but we had our car stolen over a month ago. It's taken ages and we still don't have the insurance money (though have settled on a figure), but we do finally have a new set of wheels!

It's pre-owned, but not done many miles and has been well taken care of. Personalised plates because shiny.

The best (apart from numberplates/cup holders/actual key in ignition (!)/petrolpump) thing is that the floor lifts out so he can Fred Flinstone himself along and then if his little legs get tired I can just pop the floor in and use the little handle in the back of the car to push and steer him along. I want to make a set of furry dice and a magic tree made of felt.
