Yes. Stuck it in neutral and bounced it off the limiter a few times. There was a low POP! and matter was ejected. That I picked up and put in bin. Feels loads better.

Pissing about with charging and then testing the battery in the focus, turns out I'd run out of petrol actually, and that's why it wouldn't start. Ooops.

In fairness, that petrol gauge was misleading - it said a quarter full.

Just got this MPG on a drive back from Douglas round the TT course, that's 42.8mpg over 22.4 miles (the 'A' counter is set to reset whenever I put petrol in and I stopped for petrol in Douglas).

Admittedly this was quite a gentle drive (albeit with a couple of overtakes), but still, 42.8mpg for a car of this ilk is pretty impressive I think. (The S4 could just about nose up to 32mpg on a trip if driven mega-gently.)

Overall MPG since I got the Type-R (currently 730 miles travelled on the 'B' counter which I reset when I got the car) stands at 33.6mpg.

I couldn't think of a better thread to ask this in, so apologies if this doesn't fit. Today, a car came out of the supermarket car park where I was Crossing and was all over the place to the point where I got back up onto the dropped kerb and moved backwards along the pavement.

This car here had the windscreen smashed to a billion pieces on the drivers side, but still held together. But it was so smashed it was opaque, and about three feet across. There were three people inside that went through the busy Walsall junction, which the few of you who know the area might know. The back screen was missing and replaced by a bin bag. You might be able to see the front windscreen missing in the pictures I took.

Anyway, I called the 101 number on instinct and after several menu options was on hold until a message said to use the website, hold a bit longer and then the call dropped.

Anyway, my questions are 1£ is this a. Time? Surely it is illegal to drive when you can't see out of the window, and b) do the police care? Would they do anything? I have the registration number plate.

Yes, definitely illegal. That's "using a vehicle in a dangerous condition". Traffic police would definitely like a word with the driver assuming they can find them. I'd give 101 another go.

I phoned the police back and reported it.

I do not think they could possibly have given fewer ducks. Yes ducks. I typed a swear word and it autocorrected to something nicer, so that is ok.

Not surprising, I've found the cops to give very few ducks at all instead preferring to wait until something seriously bad happens. Sorry if that offends anyone by the way, just personal experience.

Someone spent 20 minutes chasing Helen around Birmingham and the police didn't seem enormously enthused about dealing with that either. The registration was declared removed so oh well, never mind eh? No call out on the car/driver description *with that plate*, no examining CCTV to maybe Id the driver, no statement. Nothing.

I put petrol in the car yesterday and according to the computer I had 11 miles of range left. Totally brimmed it and got 43.32 litres into what is a 50 litre tank, so what's that all about then eh?

The numbers are wrong somewhere.

Yeah but 11 miles would be what, a litre or two?

If I could only get 43 litres into the tank then I still had something like 55 miles worth of fuel left. (On the last tank I averaged 36.5mpg.)

That's whack as fuck.

I love the final mod: 1.6 TDI Greenline badge installed. Man after my own heart :D

I think it's fantastic there are people out there who do this stuff, total hats off to them, but for the vast sums of money and hundreds of hours spent, why not just buy an RS6 and remap it?

Also, sorry to say but that Skoda has had a severe thrashing with the uggboat stick, I don't care how amusingly fast it can now go. The estate would be marginally easier on the eye - if you really must.

The RS6 starts at twice the price or more, and everyone expects them to be quick.
Half the fun he's had is being different.

I know it's meant to be a "sleeper" but it seems pretty clear that he actually enjoys the attention, in particular from fellow car enthusiasts. So in terms of bang for his buck you can't really fault his approach, what with all the forum threads and magazine articles.

Another regular on the same forum has a Yeti that's received a 2.5TFSI from a TT-RS.
It was running just over 500bhp but cracked a piston and is now being rebuilt to about 700.

Nah, I think he said in the thread that he's spent less than a new Merc E63, but that's still a fucktonne of cash in that case, and probably would be much more still, if you factored in "mates rates" turbos and other parts, all his 100s of man-hours for nowt etc., that the rest of us would pay for. That blue printed forged engine, custom manifold pipes, gearbox strengthening, third party Stage 3 turbo, all those dyno tests, fuellers, remaps... they all cost a fortune, yet he's still got a car that lacks all the trick diffs, brakes, aero, shell bracing etc that AMG and Audi RS division provide as standard.

It's great to see someone do this, but there can be little doubt that a second hand RS6 decatted, remapped and dynoed would be objectively better in almost every way. (It's not my cup of tea you understand - even at all - but if we're talking stupidly fast family saloon barges, this c.700bhp as standard, 4wd Audi estate wagon is where it's at)

I also wish he'd lavished this cash, expertise and time on a far better, more interesting donor car; say, a £37k Mustang V8 with really good low pressure turbo and overbore, cams etc., but I suppose the whole point of the exercise is to look innocuous and boring, which it certainly does. It's an amusing, but very expensive joke, but it's his time and money I guess.
