Holey-moley that's a pretty awesome motor Cavey, apart from a 'Porsche GT4' what actually is it though? It looks kind of like a track car rather than a day-to-day road car.

Also since everyone else is being far too polite, how much did it cost? My understanding on all these exotic Porsches is that they make a really miserly number of them and/or bring hardly any to the UK, which are all pre-sold and then people have to pay vast wedges on the second hand market to actually get one.

Sweet wheels though man, enjoy :)

It's a Cayman GT4 which is definitely more of a track day car than an every day driver.

Hey thanks bud.

What's a GT4? In a nutshell, it's a 981 Cayman but with a 3.8 litre 911 Carrera S engine stuffed in it, and the entire chassis and (fully adjustable) suspension is bespoke, with all GT3 underneath. The 295-section semi-slick OE rear tyres are bespoke to the car, too. There's true downforce and super-trick aero (the rear spoiler is permanent). There are a whole host of other changes too, but I'm neither clever enough, nor knowledgeable enough to describe them; this one does have the carbon fibre hard shell bucket seats lifted straight from the 918 Spyder uber-hybrid that people on Top Gear cream themselves over (it costs 800 grand). It is purposely old-school, though, and was only ever available with a (very slick) 6-speed MANUAL gearbox, and there is neither a turbocharger nor supercharger in sight. Consequently the huge flat-six, despite its near 4-litres displacement, revs to a screaming, cacophonous 8,000RPM, which, given that it's only sat one inch or so behind you via the rear bulkhead is quite the experience, let me tell you.

To sum it up, whilst the car's ~190mph top speed and 4 secs dash to 60mph (and a 'Ring time of 7'40" despite the slow manual 'box) ain't exactly hanging about, the GT4 is unashamedly an out and out old school drivers' car, the like of which will never be seen again. At least, not from Porsche (thanks to enviro laws). This is the "swansong Cayman"; HANDLING is king. Without being unduly immodest, it is arguably the best handling true road car of all time, for any money, ever. Many consider it Porsche's best car, at any price. To drive it is to be in automotive heaven; the whole thing is alive and fizzing with feedback. If I were a violinist, this would be a Stradivarius. Sure, there are mightier, louder instruments out there, for a lot less cash - but if that's yer thing, fine, go bash some fucking kettle drums.

I read conflicting accounts but if I understand correctly there are perhaps 30 or so in the UK (Porsche's "GT" cars like the GT4, GT3 and GT2 - and their racing cars - aren't made in their main factory, they are hand built in tiny numbers at a totally dedicated facility), give or take. I could be wrong about the exact number but one thing's for sure: they're rare as rocking horse shit and of those tiny few that are here, most are in dehumidified garages and will see little actual driving. Mine too will be garaged and pampered, but Oulton Park beckons, as does the open road. I've bought it to drive it, and drive it often.

Cost? Honestly, I'm too embarrassed to say - it's a lot. For me, though, what price life-changing, life-affirming perfection and unalloyed joy? In 20 years I'll be 70, or dead. This is my passion, and this is the pinnacle. For me, there's nowhere else to go from here.

Loads of stuff on the web about it if you're interested (which, as the petrolhead you are, you will be).

The ivory coloured plastic on rear view mirror bugs me when I see it from the outside as all the other trim is black. Just seen a video showing how easily they detach, so I guess I'll be doing some more sweet modifications* to it tonight.

And also I'll be hiding my mates mirror next time I'm out in his golf. :D

Nope. I didn't need to. It was all done over the phone; I didn't even sit in it - or see it. :)
I have since (after handing over a deposit and signing up). Awesome. Everything I've even wanted and them some - in spades. I will never, ever tire of this car.

They've promised me "the handover of all time" as I am, apparently, their most enthusiastic customer of all time, and they are glad she's going to a good home. I guess my kissing the drivers' side door (whilst Mrs C looked on, with resigned incredulity) probably swung that one; they'd just previously had some guy pick up a 911 who didn't even crack a smile.

The impromtu powerslide in the car park probably also raised an eyebrow or two. :D
