Here's a brand spanker for lease, comes with all the toys, for £175/month inc. VAT.

Seems like a good deal to me. Or you could go all sensible and classy like my missus' A3 TDI Ultra, with 75mpg real world and all the (basic) toys but at least including integral satnav, for £230/month inc. VAT.

Unless you're messing about with old bangers and know what you're doing (and have the time to do it), dropping a couple of grand a year to drive round in a perpetually new, smart. trouble-free car that's someone else's problem seems like a good way to go to me. Not many cars depreciate less than a couple of grand a year; let alone factoring repair costs for old cars, hassle, time, replacement car costs etc. as well. No-brainer imo.

That car looks like it's got a giant bar of dairy milk on the side.

I picked up my Nissan Cube today. It has reversing sensors, Bluetooth stereo with an aux input, cruise control and working indicators! All these things I haven't had before.

It also has LEDs that light up the foot well which change colour at the oush of a button. Very cool.

Better yet, keep the netrunner cards and play high stakes netrunner for large amounts of gold. Use the gold to make jersey milk bottle tops, sell the milk bottle tops to a milk farmer (in jersey), then use that money to buy a rover Sd1

Quote:
A MAN who crashed a car containing numerous containers of petrol during a high speed police chase across Bradford was “driving like a lunatic,” the sentencing judge said.

Hassan Iqbal, 20, sped off in a Volkswagen Golf fitted with false registration plates after the police became suspicious of him on the afternoon of February 28.

He was pursued in a “blue light chase” along roads including Little Horton Lane, Laisteridge Lane, All Saints Road and Great Horton Road at 3.45pm, before smashing into a police vehicle and hitting a lamppost.... fled on foot and put up “a fierce struggle” while being apprehended.....There was a strong smell of petrol from the Golf and it was found to be carrying “numerous containers of petrol”....pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and to driving without insurance and a licence.....
caused many vehicles to swerve to avoid him as he jumped red lights, overtook slow moving lines of traffic, mounted the kerb and ignored Give Way signs."To put it colloquially, he put his foot down,” Mr Gregg said.

And what does one get for this?

Quote:
Judge Paul Watson QC said only Iqbal’s prompt plea of guilty had saved him from an immediate custody as he sentenced him to a 12 month community order, with 250 hours of unpaid work and a ten day rehabilitation activity requirement with the probation service.

Iqbal was also banned from driving for two years, and until he takes an extended test.

Oh.

Something a bit more substantial than what was given. It hardly sends a message of deterrence.

I really do think they're a great looking car... It must be the proportions, there's something very pleasing about the design.

Now get it dropped on some fat ass wheels.

Gaywood stored his car at my place for a bit while he was moving into London, and I drove it back down when I visited him one time. It needed fuel, but I didn't want to stop at the first place I went past, so I carried on down the motorway.

The next place was shut. The next next place was shut. I finally coasted into a petrol station with this on the dials:

I think that the car didn't have a handbrake. It was an odd automatic thing.

Maybe it did, and it didn't have park. There was something strange about it, I remember that.

Only because it is sub 60k miles. The jump from 6k to 7k opens up more things. :)

The missus will drive on zero for 2 days saying "there's loads left. 20 miles at least". She's never run out as far as I'm aware.

I get twitchy when the light comes on even though I know there's at least 60 miles left in the big old diesel tank

I've gone twenty miles past zero in the Bravo that I had, and then put in 55.5 litres into a 55 litre tank which was taking a huge risk.
My GF gets nervous when her car is down to a quarter of a tank and showing 100 miles remaining, even though her commute to work and back is 6 miles.

I've run out of fuel two, maybe three times. All when I was younger and didn't really care much, knowing that I had mates that I could call that would come and help out.

This was all prior to the 'distance remanning estimates' that more modern cars have. I think they actually make me more nervous than a simple E---F fuel gauge, the temptation is to watch them ticking down.

Finally got a proper full-speed blast over the mountain mile this morning on the way to work. (The mountain section of the course has been one-way for TT (when the roads are open to the public) since Saturday but due to a combination of road closures for accidents, days off work, too much traffic when I have been up there, and not being arsed to go up there just for a blast like I used to in the past, this morning was the first chance this year to properly go at it - as I got the stretch of road to myself on my way to work at 6:30am.)

Anyway, whilst the Merc was still (slowly) accelerating, I'd only just topped 130mph when I started slowing down for the bends at the end of the mountain mile, which isn't amazing considering its claimed top speed of 153mph - I imagine you'd need a substantial stretch of Autobahn to actually manage 153mph.

What I will say though is it was incredibly quiet and comfortable at that speed, if I'd have been in the passenger seat with my eyes closed I'd have probably guessed it was doing 60-70mph.

I'll see if I can improve on that speed in subsequent runs by getting the lines a bit better going onto the mountain mile, and leaving the braking a bit later, but I'll be surprised if I can manage anything north of 135mph.

So can you legally drive at 130mph on this stretch during this set up?
