You won't keep it that long!

I've got my Type R back now. I'm glad because they gave me a Suzuki Wagon R as a courtesy car. I thought it was going to topple over every time I took a corner faster than 10mph.

They can't do anything about the cat efficiency reading apparently. It's because it's an aftermarket exhaust with a sports cat. They did offer to remove the bulb (not joking).

Probably full exhaust system then if the cats been upgraded. Was that light on when you test drove it then?

I still like my car and I know where I'm up to with maintenance on things. Might not see it roll over the 200,000 mile mark but I'll be happy to run it for a few more years yet and make the odd change to it along the way.

Yeah it's a full exhaust system. No, the light only came on halfway home. The garage say it didn't come on at all while they had it. Maybe it only happens when it's driven enthusiastically. ;)

That's very strange about the CEL with an aftermarket exhaust. Usually within a few hours the ECU will make adjustments for it and in theory the light should go out. I remember with my Tiburon whenever I made changes to the engine (of which I made many) I used to have to disconnect the battery, stomp on the brake pedal to discharge the system of power and then reconnect the battery and go out and drive it like a bellend for about 30 mins so the ECU could make adjustments.

Your aftermarket exhaust should take the standard sensors from your car and tbh this shouldn't be happening. Well, not unless the exhaust was some cheap affair or wasn't designed specifically for your car.

Nah. The ka needed at least £400 of stuff doing to get it through the MOT. And was set to explode way before the MOT expired dye to the thermostat issues I mentioned.

A 12 year old Rover 25 with a K series engine is waaaaaaay less of a risk. This was £660

Oh. And the interior lights, clock and MOST IRRITATINGLY cd player don't work. I suspect this is a fuse.

Nice flags, too. Showing off the panel gaps.

Fuse changed. Lights and clock now work. Cd player doesn't but I'll pop it out tomorrow then change the head unit.

The fan only works on settings 3 and 4 which is something to do with a resistor. I'll just pop the air con on if I get warm.

Your k series will developed head gasket problems at 70k and blow up. Jus sayin.

That's 2 years away. Hopefully we'll have actually bought another car by then and this one gets scrapped.

I'm under no illusions about the potential problems, these are mitigated by the service history, how long i expect to run the car and the price paid. £660 for a 12 month MOT is what I've bought.

I thought the main issues with head gasket failure on the K-Series were people not maintaining coolant and oil properly, as the engines have very small tolerances for under/over-filling?

I think there's a case for increasing the size of the bypass and bleed hoses. My opinion is that the actual gaskets that come with the are pants as they're just a sheet of tin with wiggly bits of silicone on them.

That'll be why they left that fuse unreplaced. It drains the battery.

You might be right, you know. I shall see if the boot light ot glove box light (if fitted) is warm. If not will see if alternator is warm in the morning, if it is, it be draining.

Worst case is it doesn't start tomorrow and then I take the ka in, or it doesn't start after work and I get the train home.

We had the battery go flat and (before it was traced to a faulty Bluetooth module) the RAC man unplugged the glovebox and boot lights because he said they often don't auto-shut off leading to flattery battery.

I took it off charge this morning and it started first time. I also disconnected the boot light. It did the 50 minute trip to work with no problems and no warning lights. Now to see if it starts at 5 pm. ...

The ka battery will fit in it, so that's a relief.

I prefer to point my phone at the light and record a video (of the boot being shut, obv).

That's way more thinking than "oh the boot is open as I am putting stuff in it so I might as well disconnect the light".

Hah, yep - that's me. Glad my lack of knowledge helped someone else ;)

(my brother always jokes about me working on my car, as I used to have to ask him to change lightbulbs for me as I couldn't get my hands in the gap to reach the back so he'd have to take bumpers off and shiz - this leads to a bulb change as being a "1 spanner job")
