Post subject:  Re: Gas Guzzling Money Pits

So it's a 2002 S-type 4.0 V8 automatic with 105k on the clock (I'll have to check that). It's got a couple of grazes that I can take photos of but otherwise the bodywork is fine, interior is a bit tired but it's still fucking comfy (especially if you've been cramming yourself into a Puma for the past few months).

Aircon, cruise control, electric seats, electric windows, electric sunroof, electric mirrors, reversing bleeper, CD changer (with tape player up front!) and all that jazz.

The heater doesn't get hot (we discussed that on Saturday), and the blipper doesn't work. Otherwise there's not much to say about it - it's a great big barge of a thing that you prowl around in while playing hip-hop as loud as you can and saying "Jaaaaaaaag" to passers-by.

£1,200 if you want it as is or £1,400 if you want the heater fixed (I was quoted £250 earlier today to fit the part that needs replacing, but that won't bother you again until November time).

[edit]Oh yeah, the sunroof takes a few goes to open, if you're into that kind of thing.

Will have a think - would need to flog the M3 first anyway, so don't hold on to it for me or anything.

Are you left with just the bestickeredmobile now? What happened to your k-wagon thingy in the end?

I'm in two minds as to what to do after I move. Head says get a very nice mk2 MX5 Sport (I can get the best of the best for £3k). Well, proper head says don't get anything and save the money to replace the 29yr old boiler, but let's ignore that. Heart says put a grand down on a Caterham and finance the rest for a couple of years. The residual values are insane if you buy a secondhand/nearly new one, which means monthly payments should be dirt cheap...

I'd use the MX5 a lot more, and if I get a really good one and look after it, I shouldn't lose any money on it. But, the Caterham would be much fun.

Yep, just the Celica. For now. Do you mean the Honda Stepwagon? Sold that *ages* ago to a guy from Scotland.

Obligatory "That's no way to talk about your wife!" comment :P

Caterham would be nice, but a sorted MX5 would basically give you 90% of the smiles for 10% of the cost, so a no-brainer IMO.

I just need to *not* buy another car. Current idea is to move in with Jem, stick my house on the rental market (or sell, if that's not feasible) and overpay the mortgage with money saved.

It's not 10% of the cost though. It's 10% of the initial price, but if you are planning to sell then the residuals can mitigate the difference. Sure, it'll be more expensive, but not crazy more. Buy a Caterham for £14k, it'll still be worth £14k in 2 years time. Finance on the conservative gfv would likely be around £100 a month I expect.
Round it all up and £3k for a couple of years in a Caterham? Hmmm...

Oh, and you will buy another car. It's impossible for you not to. I'm speaking as a car buying brother.

Anyone in the market for a road bike? Carrera TdF Ltd Edition in yellow - medium frame size?

Only want £150 for it, which is what I paid for it a few weeks ago before discovering that a) it's too small for me, and b) the e-wheel won't fit on.

The mans has picked up the M3 and driven it off into the sunset, leaving me with just the chavmobile.

So, I now have just over £7,000 burning a hole in my skyrocket. Do I pay off debts (the sensible option) or buy another wildly impractical money pit?

Of only there were a way you could spend just a bit of that money on a wildly impractical money pit quality vehicle.

It is (semi)-auto, and I have noticed there is a clunk from the front of the car when I go from drive to neutral, or from having my foot on the accelerator to not. Any one know if this is normal for an auto? Anything to worry about?

I'd get it looked at, could be an engine mount away or exhaust touching or something simple like that.

meant to say at the time, but this was an engine mount, and it took them 2 days to diagnose with the car in front of them, so top diagnosis KW!

The reason I remembered is because I have just had another engine mount replaced and a shock absorber.
Still, that is why I got a car with a warranty.

Fine looking cars, the 6 series.

Over on Briskoda.net one of the regulars with far more money than sense has transplanted a 2.5 TFSI engine from a TT-RS into a Skoda Yeti - 510 bhp in a small SUV is "interesting".

When I was at school, one of my mate's brothers and his friends put a large Cosworth engine into a Ford Popular and (I forget all the details), it was rear wheel drive. It could pull wheelies!
