EXCITING ROVER UPDATE!

After 10k miles in it, i am used to it and now accept it.

Known issues (current):

Feels down on power. Noticeable if there is only 86 whorespowers to begin with. No funny colored smoke from exhaust, expansion tank only a bit oily. Mpg remains constant. Suspect underinflated tyres. Will change airfilter and redex it. Add air to tyres.

Chirping sound at higher revs when you come off throttle. No idea. Possibly needs oil. Will turn radio up because my love for the Tay Tay is strong today.

Heater now only goes from FULL HEAT to 1/4 HEAT. This is less of an issue now winter approaches. No action.

Fans only work on settings 3 and 4. Relabelling 3 and 4 as LO and HI.

Clock still buggared. It is 12:12 all the time.

Lost fuse box cover. Will find fuse box cover.

Battery still drains itself over 10 days due to alarm system. Then sounds alarm. Stupid.

Various dents and rust patches. Dents from a vauxhall, gatepost (twice), scratches from bins.

It would probably pass MOT

3 weeks in the Merc and it's probably already the best car I've owned. Not the most fun to drive certainly (after an RS Clio and a CTR it was never going to be the case), but a really nice place to be in.

For £1500 it feels like a real bargain.

Do you know if the fuel filter has ever been changed?

There is a full book of stamps, but i haven't in 10k miles. Good call. Will look into it.

My GTD is still making me smile every time I put my foot down, it's nice to have a decent amount of power when overtaking. Also, when accelerating in top gear, just as you think it's starting to lose a bit of power, the turbo kicks in and it screams forward faster again. I like that bit a lot. Wish I could find a long enough stretch of road to see how close to the top speed I can get it.

That might be a stretch too far. She's already said that she wants nothing to do with Hearthly even thought they live next door to each other or something?

I avoided any combination of the words 'Flis', 'hill' and 'over'

For the money involved, you'll need to win the lottery, but imagine it, especially if you could get a two door.

I do, twice a day :( But corners and other cars hinder my progress. It's handles well but it can't go round bends at 120. I get round 1 at 85ish but that's the best I can do.

I set off about 6:45am so have the benefit of the road being quiet, once you get to 'normal commute time' it's just a case of sitting in the flow of traffic at the prevailing speed really.

Brandish is good for about 115mph when they haven't got the stupid temporary 60 limit in place.

My colleague has informed me that the "exhaust is throwing out huge lumps of crap".

Hmm.

Either way, it's time to drop £800 on a full stainless system.

It'll pay for itself, you know you'll be keeping the car for another 10 years.

If it is more that £387, i might as well buy a 75 diesel for £550 as the £162 is saving on fuel.

Only pulling your piston. Price up a new OEM backbox (would CAT innards be able to make their way through?). Like Wookie says, it's probably bit's of exhaust innards that have corroded away and are being pushed through.

Park it facing up a steep hill, rev the nuts off it and get someone to kick the exhaust until all the bits have fallen out.

One amusing thing about the Forester is if you park it on a steep slope (my drive) and wash windows, the screen wash sipons itself out of the rear washer overnight.

The boot space requires a MASSIVE BRAIN to get camping stuff in.

Might buy a 1.4 VW Polo diesel. 114k on the clock, 50mpg and £1k.

That seems like a lot of money for such a high-milage car, but I've never looked at buying a VW, so maybe it's normal.

I think that's pretty good actually. And high mileage doesn't bother me. It means it won't need an early engine replacement, for example.
