Took my Mazda to Asda to make it go faster.

But they fucked up my order and now it's a Skoda.

People who know stuff about this type of thing!

My friend had his Car Insurance renew today, and a few days ago he received a notice of intent to prosecute for jumping a red light. Car insurance company wants details of any bonus points earned in the year and pending prosections. Online research indicates that a NIP is not a Pending prosection, and is reinforced by the fact that some insurers specifically ask for details of NIPs (heh) and Pending Prosecutions.

Basically, not yet disclosing as it wasn't requested doesn't affect my his insurance renewal, does it?

Trying to claim a Notice of Intended Prosecution isn't a pending prosecution is splitting a hair mighty finely. Insurance companies will use something like this to avoid paying out on any claims. I'd declare it.

If the NiP was not sent recorded in any way and was really 'only a few days ago' then I think you could realistically claim its only arrive just after you've told the insurers that you your friend does not have any.

However depending on the outcome of it you then need to inform the insurance company straight away and that will affect your his policy straight away.

Not a lawyer in any way however the above seems logical / reasonable to me

:this: You might save about 1 months worth of the increase by waiting, I wouldn't say that was worth the risk personally.

You're supposed to declare immediately anyway, rather than wait til the next renewal.

I wouldn't know, though.

If you are actually prosecuted, given points and fined, the insurance company should be informed. If you are given the option of going on a traffic light awareness course and take up the offer, you don't have to tell them. According to the guy who was running the course I was on anyway,

That depends entirely on what your insurance company says. If they just ask "have you any convictions" you are ok, but it's getting more common that they ask if you've been on any courses as well.

When the time comes, TL Awareness happen in London, but is rare apparently and hard to get on. It will probably be easier and cheaper to take the points, as my friend has an unblemished license and the premium impact for that conviction code with a 3 + £100 is £30 per year.

However, the point my friend became aware of was that as the offer of an awareness course could be made, which is when teh option is given to take that or prosecution, it isn't Pending until that notification arises and is responded to, as opposed to the NIP. Also I think for legalz - the automated NIP doesn't actually get reviewed for quality of evidence apparently until the next stage, so (rarely) no further action happens afterwards if the ducks aren't in a row.

How does that fit in with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, I wonder?
For convictions, if an insurer asks if you have any, regardless of the timeframe they ask for, be it 10 years, or ever etc... if the conviction was over 5 years ago, then you can tell them no. After 5 years your slate is wiped clean (except in special circumstances and with special dispensation i.e. government security clearance etc... Insurers aren't special in this case, as much as they would like to think they are ;))

A course doesn't count as a conviction though, does it? So there probably isn't a legal timeframe to work with and you have to tell them if you want the insurance to be valid. As APoD as mentioned, it might be better to take the points than go on the course, unless you expect to gain enough points to be disqualified.

It's not a conviction, so they aren't barred from asking about it, just like any of the other information they require.

Well that was all somewhat academic when renewal is midnight tonight and the conditional offer with no awareness option arrived on the doormat today.

It's the Manx Classic this weekend, just a random selection of cars that were lined up for their run over the mountain. (I'd only gone out for a walk and had forgotten it was on!)

There are some luscious rally prepared Escort Mk1s around but alas not that I could see here.

Also, original GT-40!

On phone, so please forgive lack of links:

Old Man Afterthought asked me to look at the motability website as Mummy Afterthought has the poorlies in her CNS. Anyways, I have had a look and for CRITERIA FOLLOWS an automatic car for no more than £250 a Skoda Yeti looks the best there doesn't it? One should be able to fit a disability scooter in there?

A yeti is certainly a decent choice, as is the new Qashqai depending on what your budget will get you. The Yeti is a DSG twin clutch auto. The QQ is a CVT with preset ratios, and both are decent auto gearboxes. There's a 1.2 petrol turbo in both, or a diesel with 105bhp.

It's going to be quite a step up to load a scooter in the back on both though.

I am sure AVIS Germany are picking on me.

I got a a Rennalt Megane BOSE, it was quite nice for a french car, until the battery died. They swapped it for a Fiat 500s, it is tiny.

I am sure the S means it has leather seats nice wheels and makes more noise!

Yup. That's what averaging 11 miles per gallon does for you ;) It'd be less than that now that I've moved back to my flat so can walk to work, but I've sold my flat now and am looking to buy a house - so needs must.

Erk!
That would scare me too much.

The Forester does less than 27mpg. Might as well have gotten the quick one.

I'm back from Iceland, where I drove up to the top of one of the ice caps just south of the Arctic Circle (well, I passengered while a guy who knew what he was doing drove...)

On the way, we rescued a nissan patrol that had been beached due to poor ground clearance, and had to turn around and go back to rescue a ford van monster truck, which was too heavy and had got stuck.
All in a Land Rover Defender that had been modified by a farmer in his barn. :)

I really want a Tesla Model S, I shall own one after I have bought a house and can charge it.
I won't have any money left to buy a car after I buy a house, but that is a problem for future Trooper, and he is a dick anyway.

Subaru are going to try and break their own record on the TT circuit this year, using the brand new Impreza STi (despite the fact that it's an 'exhibition lap' for insurance purposes, they're talking openly about wanting to break the record).

I already think this car is pure sex and have come perilously close to ordering one from the local Subaru dealer on some sort of insane finance contract.

This probably won't help my resistance.....

You take that back! Let's not say things that can't be unsaid! :D

Each to their own I guess, I prefer the look of Jap sports cars to German sports cars.

I'd say the Scooby is a nicer looking car than a Porsche, for example. Jap sports cars look like sports cars should, a computer racing game type of look.

yeah i love jap sports cars, they all look sleek and pointy and like a really big toy car. Not that though, I'm even a fan of imprezzas, version 5s being the best then blobeyes then the hatch. That honestly looks boring to me, its got none of that cheeky, dirty, playful scoobynes about it. Is it trying to metamorphose into a lancer?
