I was saved the hassle of getting under the big car in the snow, removing six clips to get to the oil plug as there, um mm, isn't any oil in the car.

Those Pumas are so lovely. Friend had one back in the day - he loved throwing it round roundabouts. Fun even as a passenger, stuck to the road like glue.

Replaced the stereo, all the speakers and put a one-kilowatt sub in the boot.

I seem to have regressed to a teenager somewhat.

I love it :)

Oops, smashed the Ka into the gatepost. Large dent in rear quarter. It might pull out. I shall visit a dent puller outer tomorrow. MrsA highly amused.

Would have liked to, but Banbury's too far north to go on a workday (although I'm an agile worker with laptop and phone, I have meetings all this week). Used a place in Bicester, and expecting to make the cost of the 'half price MOT' in unnecessary repairs.

Legal for another year! I think this is the first time I've ever owned a car that passed first time.

(Probably will need to look at tyre treads and brake pads though).

Assetto Corsa releases it's first set of DLC next week, for £7.33.
"This package adds to Assetto Corsa the legendary circuit of Nurburgring-Nordschleife and ten new awesome cars. The circuit has been reproduced for the first time in a PC racing simulation using the Laserscan Technology, that guarantees the maximum level of precision in reproducing each detail of the track.
Features the Bridge To Gantry mode, that allows to simulate the real track day rules of Nurburgring. "

This might be of interest to someone on here ;)

Well, that's one way of resolving the lack of headroom in the rear of the evoque.

I don't think many hairdressers can afford an Evoque, it's more the car of the clientèle of posh hairdressers.

There is a dead posh hairdressers on Douglas prom, walk past there at any point in the day and I guarantee there'll be an Evoque or two parked in the vicinity. The drivers are invariably well-to-do middle-aged women (with fancy hair).

Most definitely not a vehicle for a chap.

A low battery can cause havoc with everything else. Try and start it again when you get it home to see if that could be it.

thanks. It is parked at bottom of drive. Car starts fine. With engine off the headlights do not dim after a few seconds and now only warning light is "check engine" it needs coolant though. I have found the Haynes book so will have a read

EDIT:
I fiddled with the battery leads and filled the coolant up and now all lights are gone. Hurrah. Thank you.

You can get diagnostics on faults in Fords with digital dashboards.

Quote:
The Self Diagnostics Mode gives you in-depth information about your
engine and the actual numbers in digital. To use it, follow the steps:

* Insert Key but do not turn it on
* Press and hold the Trip Meter Reset Button
* While holding the reset button, Turn ignition until dash lights come on and
continue holding the button
* Within 10 seconds, the display should change to "test" in LCD font
and the needles will do a full sweeping. Release the Button

Pressing the button will now cycle through some 17 different modes

* 1. Shows a Gauge Sweep
* 2. Shows all 8's on the LCD (LCD TEST)
* 3. Illuminates all the bulbs on the dash
* 4. Displays hexadecimal value for ROM level
* 5. Displays the hexadecimal value for EE level
* 6. Shows DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)
* 7. Digital Speedometer - mph
* 8. Digital Speedometer - kph
* 9. N/A
* 10. Digital tachometer
* 11. Fuel volume
* 12. Engine coolant temperature
* 13. Battery voltage
* 14. ABS fail
* 15. Electronic brake distribution (EBD) failure
* 16. Illumination
* 17. Crank Sense

So get your DTC, then look it up on the interweb.

Yeah, a dead battery or a duff alternator will cause all sorts of weird symptoms like that. As I discovered when I was driving an MX5 back from Much Wenlock and suddenly it lit up like a Christmas tree and left me stranded in the middle of a roundabout.

Dt 412

And Internet says

Quote:

P0412 - Secondary Air Injection System (AIR) circuit malfunction The PCM attempts to control when air is injected in the exhaust. The DTC indicates a Secondary Air injection system AIR circuit fault. AIR circuit open
AIR bypass solenoid fault
Damaged PCM
AIR circuit short to power
Solid state relay fault
Damaged AIR pump
The AIR circuit is normally held high through the AIR bypass solenoid and SSR when the output driver is off. Therefore, a low AIR circuit indicates a driver is always on and a high circuit indicates an open in the PCM.

Which is a start I guess

beware! Dtcs almost always throw up a lambda code as anything that happens in the engine will upset it as it is downstream. Also the code you quoted seems to claim that your Ka has a smog pump which doesn't sound likely to me. But then I've been away from modern cars awhile.

advice: clear the codes so light goes out, drive around until light comes on again and immediately recheck, that way you get the freshest, juiciest codes. X

Either an obd2 code reader which are reasonably cheap on eBay (this would help with code reading too) or leave the battery disconnected overnight.
