We were looking at the Zaferia Elite, as my wife wants a MPV

I went to my local Vauxhall dealer and they didn't even have one on the forecourt.

The car salesman gave me a business card with somebody else's name crossed and his written on it in red biro.

So after that experience with those utter twats, are there any good sites for buying cars?

Are you looking the new shape Zafira or the old one that they are still selling?
There's very regular offers for the previous one that always show up on Hot Uk Deals.
Failing that, I found carwow are very good for quotes on new cars as you can see exactly which dealer they are coming from unlike a lot of brokers.

Awesome Rolls Royce parking skills!

The owner came out with his missus just as we were driving off and he looked like a totally normal dude in jeans and a t-shirt.

The wife's policy expires in a few weeks. We're going to get a joint 2-car thing.

They all let you add cars as the premiums expire, rather than as a job lot.

Also, if it's not insured after today it MUST be SORN, or you're breaking the law.

In the end we went for another Skoda, a Superb Estate TDI with a 7 Speed DSG gearbox.

Had to get my mate to explain what that was to me!

I finally get rid of our rather crappy 53 Nissan Micra that is my wife's car but I was forced to use it for the last 6 months as it was a pain to get a baby seat into.

If all goes well and the transfer of cash from the joint (but wife controlled) savings account goes through in time should pick it up Friday.

Its a nice car and we have had an Octavia for 7 years and never had any issues with that.

Yep, if your car is not insured but is taxed, you're breaking the law - even if it's off-road.

Yikes... So... hypothetically, what sort of penalty are we talking about here? The car is taxed until November and I don't fancy surrendering the disk for a matter of weeks.

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/uninsured-vehicles

You must have motor insurance for your vehicle if you use it on roads and in public places.

You do not need to insure your vehicle if it is kept off the road and declared as off the road (SORN). This rule is called ‘continuous insurance enforcement’.

If not, you could:

get a fixed penalty of £100
have your vehicle wheel-clamped, impounded or destroyed
face a court prosecution, with a possible maximum fine of £1,000

Or... not bother for a couple of weeks. The chances of getting caught are tiny, especially if you aren't driving it around, as long as it isn't parked on the road...

Obviously IANAL but I've gone for a few weeks without anything happening, you should always get warnings through the post.

In practice, the process of sending off the V5C etc. to get the keeper changed will take a little while so you should have some leeway.

Is it going to be parked off-road, or on the road?

Off road. In the garage, if I can compress the junk that's already in there. I'm blessed with lots of driveway.

Let me reiterate that most if not all of the multicar policies let you start with one car and add others as their renewals come around. Admiral even give you the discount from the off.

So check that.

Its a 2LT TDI registered in December 2012

Car Salesmen are such dicks, what amazes me is how little they know about the thing they sell.

I could have sworn they were only six speed with the 2.0.
I know what you mean about the sales staff though. At a car supermarket you can't expect them to know every single detail but at a main dealer with only a handful of models... I usually end up telling them about the cars.

We once moved from a rented flat to one we owned in the same building, which was identical to ours (but laid out backward).

Anyway, the estate agent could stop himself from telling us about it when we took a look at it. He said he knew he was doing it, he just couldn't stop himself.

He was surprised when we pointed out it had a "shed", though.

Waved a sad farewell to the Boxster today and am now (temporarily) Porscheless.

What an amazing machine that was; never put a wheel wrong in 50k miles, always put a smile on my face and was the best drive ever, at least to me. Best car I've ever had. Thanks babes, you'll be missed.

I was looking at a Cayman the other day because they are dead pretty and that but really I need to go for a decent MPG diesel.

But then a golf GTD is the same price as a decent second hand Cayman.

But tyres and insurance and MPG.

But Porsche.

Yes you are right its a 6 speed DSG, picked it up today and I really like it, a nice family cruising car but still ok on the back roads.

After driving the wife's 53 Micra 1.0 for the last year the size of the new one is taking some getting used to!!
