This was in the bits and bobs thread earlier in the week.
I want it to be true, but I somehow doubt it is.

Everyone involved seems to be a confirmed liar and one of the guys pretended to have a Bigfoot body back in 2005, then retracted his claim after spending a while getting people to subscribe to his "Bigfoot cam" for $14.99 a month, so... I'm assuming it's probably a fake.

They're supposed to be having their press conference today.

8pm GMT, I think. Around then, anyway. I'll check the news when I get back from the cinema this evening and see what's up.

It looks quite good, and the (original) photo isn't exactly low-res.
And, to be honest, if you really had found bigfoot, I can imagine keeping it hidden until you'd talked to an agent and such.

Really? I thought it looked less convincing than Harry and the Hendersons with some pig offal on him.

Hmm. I don't agree with the point about plonking it on a news desk, but it is rather similar to the costume.

It just looks like a costume or a toy - it looks utterly empty and boneless.

However, if it is a fake, I'll be interested to see how they handle the press conference. Very cagily, I expect.

Strangely they seem to be following the perpetual motion machine scam rather than the normal Bigfoot scam.

The first thing you would do is take it to a university and get it investigated. You'ld still have rights to it and you'll make a bunch of money, and be super famous. You wouldn't release one dodgy photo, then hold a press conference. If only because that's what the scammers always do.

And thats before we get to the link The Rev Owen posts. I hope some people crash the conference in the costumes because they are totally busted.

It bothers me most because out of all the standard paranormal ideas thrown around bigfoot is the most likely. There really isn't anything stopping him existing at all. If things had been a little different they really could have been a lot of lesser-human species still about (like those rumoured 'hobbits') which would have made racism and religion a lot more interesting at least.

Which reminds me... what ever happened to those crazy Irish people who thought that they had created free energy from nothing, using magnets?

Took their investment capital money off fools and ran of laughing into the night presumably.

They'll resurface I guess in a few years to repeat the story. The last news update on their site was october 2007. Which was just after their demonstration machine broke because of the museum t was being demonstrated in had fluroscent lights.

Hmmm, when I get some free time maybe I'll start hassling them...

BBC says so - it was a rubber suit frozen in ice..

But:
Quote:
Two researchers bought the "carcass", encased in ice, for an undisclosed sum.

So they made their money it seems. Surely they'll get sued by these two "researchers" though?

This is the website the bbc were talking about in that link I posted.

http://squatchdetective.com/

Warning, it has sound and seems it was made circa 1998.

We followed that one in depth over at YakYak. I accurately predicted a claim of "bearing failure" as an excuse for the demo failing to work, and that they'd then go utterly silent. I still have a small bet running that reasonable evidence of intentional fraud will emerge at some point.

So if you find anything to that effect, let me know pls :)

I was going to say 96 first as well! Text which is an animated gif making it look like it's on fire never goes out of fashion.

Thats a pretty sure bet you've got there Kalmar, but yeah, will do.
