Woke up this morning after installing a Windows Update last night and it seems Mozilla is acting funny. I can't view the BBC webs site properly or use Gmail in anything other than the HTML version. The BBC website has no graphics on the front page and when I view the sports pages I can't view video.

It seems that my browser has regressed to sometime in 1997. IE works fine though.

Are you using Adblock? I had to uninstall and reinstall this to get my Firefox to work after the previous update. It was blocking everything it could, so I had no images, video, and limited javascripts.

I'm not using Adblock and all the general.user things are already on default.

Can you not uninstall firefox and the re-download it, or will that lose all of your bookmarks, etc?

I uninstalled and then reinstalled. It worked. Amazing.

I think it was due to some Skype add-on not being compatible ...or something.

Thanks though!

Why do you need Skype when YOU'RE IN THE NEXT ROOM?!?!

This is what you get for installing a windows update, silly.

I couldn't access Google, Yahoo! or Live Search at all, and MSN started spewing up hundreds of instances of my inbox in IE when I logged in yesterday. I concluded I had a virus-me-do and formatted the drive.

There's something for you.. How often do people format their hard drives? I normally try and do mine once a year (New years day as it happens!) but I have an external drive with photos/emulators/music on that never gets done.

We do not chat using Skype when we are in adjacent rooms, nobody said anything like that ?:|

The Windows side, probably once every 12 to 18 months but that's more because it gets "weird" rather then broken.

The Linux side, only when upgrading full versions of Distros.

For Windows, only if something REALLY breaks.

For Macs, never. Which is possibly why I'm constantly getting 'YOUR STARTUP DISK IS NEARLY FULL - OF PORN!' warnings.

My now-second laptop... never. XP Pro SP2 is solid, so long as you strip out the OEM crap ASAP. This laptop... once, because Vista Ultimate got all fucked up during my strip-update-install binge after getting it. Been fine for the month since though.

I've basically never had to do it. I did format my last one as it was screwing up lots, but it turned out to be a hardware fault and formatting did little good. I would do it maybe every year if I could ever be arsed, but I can't.
