Villa gave away scarves at the last home game of the season before last.

As an away fan, it will cost me £45 to see Chelsea next month. No thanks.

Yeah, that's standard league pricing, it's not as bad as some clubs. Come anyway, I'm 400m from the ground, we'll have beer.

However, the Carling cup matches are £20 for all seats, the FA cup and CL group games are £25, which is pretty sweet.

Not quite as good as the £10 to go see England U21 crush Portugal at Wembley a week or two back.

I don't go to as many matches as a used to, so I'm a bit out of touch with the prices. It was £31 last time I went to Chelsea, but the bit of the ticket I've still got doesn't actually have a date on it (I think you'd just hit the jackpot). - I just looked it up, it was september 27th 2003, Veron and Mutu played and Crespo, Joe Cole and Makelele were on the bench. We lost. :(

£45 for Chelsea is quite reasonable compared to some others I've been to, like £36 for Reading (in what they presumably thought would be their only season in the premiership, so they had to make some money), £35 for Derby (in what they correctly thought would be their only season in the premiership, so they had to make some money and £34 for Portsmouth (presumably this is so expensive because they've finally put a fucking roof on the stand, now they just need more than 1 set of toilets and they can ramp it up to £40).

Bournemouth is £18 and I think that's overpriced...

I used to pay £2 to get on the Stretford End. 1986. Well, my dad did, cos I was a kid.

IIRC, my adult season ticket for Burnley in 1991 was £120. The cheapest is now £315. To be fair to Clarets, in the unlikely event of gaining promotion to the FA Gravy Train, if you buy an ST this season, your ST for the next season is free.

A football match lasts about the same time as a play, so should cost about the same price.

But in my eyes both cost too much for me. It also lasts as long as a film at a cinema. That's the price it would need to be for me to go to a game.

Because 1 bloke pushing play on (effectively) a tape player is the same work as 22+ professionals putting on a one-off live performance. (which can apply to theatre and football)

Regardless, there is plenty of football you can get to for cinema prices. Arsenal will sell you Carling Cup tickets right now for £10 because no-one is interested. That's cheaper than central London cinema.

A quick glance at Exeter City FC's website reveals their league prices start at £13 too.

I live 35 miles away from St James' Park now, but only 11 from Home Park.

And indeed as previously noted (although not local for you) I saw a competitive England international for £10 not 2 weeks ago.

The problem with football is that you could pay £40 and see an amazing 5-0 victory and come away happy; or pay £18 to see a dire 0-1 defeat at home to the worst defence in the league (Macclesfield, btw). When you go and see a play you'd hope that the quality wasn't that variable.

I've seen Macclesfield.

We put 6 past them, which might prove your point.

And it was £20 ;)

Nigerians look to take over Newcastle.

Do you think the offer will be written all in capitals, asking Mike Ashley to make a small deposit of £10m before they can transfer him the funds?

I'd forgotten about Joe Kinnear. When I first saw the headline, Roy Kinnear was the first to spring to mind - if Newcastle appointed him it wouldn't surprise me, even though he's been dead twenty years.

Somehow, this is even funnier.

Why not just say the league cup game counted as well.

As far as it is possible for me to feel sorry for fans of a Premiership side, I do sympathise with Spurs. And Juande Ramos. The decisions made by the club management have been utterly ridiculous - selling three international strikers without replacing them is stupidity beyond belief.

Having said that, I'd have snatched someones hand off if they offered me £20 million for Keane, and there was no way Berbatov was staying.

anyway, back to newcastle!

Nigerians confirm bid for Magpies

All you have to do is provide your bank details, and they will forward 300million USD as soon as the initial cheque clears.

Villa gave away free scarves at a home match a season or two back.

And gave away a free shirt to everyone who went to the last away game of last season (well, actually it was all paid for by Olof Mellberg as it was his last game). And free coaches down to London for the Carling Cup game against Chelsea a while back (Chelsea won 4-0, but bloody hell we sung you off the park!).

I *heart* Randy Lerner.

And now we're third in the league! Curse that loss to Stoke!

I still think we'll not finish anything like this high, but another top six finish would be excellent. Especially if Spurs go down.

Spurs doing shit. Will we turn it round? Is Ramos another Christian Gross? Have we booted out yet another decent manager because the board are complete pricks? Is it a business or a football club? How much profit does Levy think he will be making if we end up in the Championship?

In other news, Kinnear to reported to be doing a season long gig at the North Easts top comedy venue according to todays Daily Mail. Newcastle also for the drop?

Aldershot slip to 10th in League 2 after being beaten 4-2 by Macclesfield.

New boys Crawley top of the Conference with Woking still hovering about the drop zone. Two formally big clubs in Wrexham and Oxford also not doing well either.

And AFC Wimbledon 4th in the Conference South? Can they go all the way?

Discuss!

Good to see Crawley Town doing so well; I've been keeping an eye out on their results since Big Fletch signed for them.

In the massive basement six-pointer, Bournemouth couldn't quite put Rotherham to the sword. The teams now on -7 and 2 points, respectively. Luton look fucked on -18, we might still survive if we can catch someone.

I was hoping that AFCW would catch and pass the MK Mongs at some point, but now they've turned it around I can't really see it happening.

Good result for England over the weekend. We win 5-1 and the pundits are still all doom and gloom.
