Steelers/Vikings... What a game that could be...

(Although probably still better than the 49ers/Jaguars game later)

Feels a bit odd to be watching from home.

But the line ups this year were not exactly inspiring.

I took one of the short breaks to get in the spirit of the thing and have put on my Team USA Rugby world cup shirt. Felt more appropriate than my Braves shirt.

Manning and the Broncos should turn up the difficulty to 'All-Madden', they appear to be on 'Rookie' at the moment.

52 points, 4 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD, 1FG, 1 Kickoff return TD, 1 Blocked punt return TD.

I don't want to worry you, but the Browns currently have a winning record (3-2) and are in the lead in their division.

99 points scored, Denver win in regulation! Den 51-48 Dal! Phew! Talk about a shootout.

Next week. The Broncos take on... DUN-DUN-DUUUUUUN! Jax.

Denver scored 51 points in their game on Sunday, their next opponents Jacksonville have scored 51 points all season.

The Vegas line for the Den-Jax matchup opened at Jax +28. This ties the largest spread ever. Vegas is spotting the Jaguars four touchdowns.

Now here's a blast (or blasts) from the past. Following the Raiders releasing perennial back up casualty Matt Flynn yesterday they will be interviewing Pat White and David Carr for a back up spot. David Carr? The man who had all his talent beaten out of him while at Houston and who has attempted a grand total of 39 passes since the end of the 2007 season. Having said that Pat White hasn't taken a snap since being cut by the Dolphins since 2010.

You've gotta think that the Broncos will take their foot off the gas at some point. Combine that with their suspect D and +28 seems generous.

Classic trap game

...Oh who am I kidding? It's going to be a massacre. I'm actually disappointed that it's not the second game on Sky this Sunday so we can revel in the slaughter.

If you are a fan of bad football, then you must watch the Monday Night Football high?lights tonight on Eurosport.

Terrible passing, running, special teams (including a defensive tackle returning a kickoff), it had it all. Excellent fun all round.

I don't get what the Vikings were thinking. Take Josh Freeman, throw him on the field after 12 days. Ponder is terrible, but at least he should know what routes his WRs are running. Then they had Freeman throw 50 times.

Yes, excellent game plan wasn't it? I loved the way Gruden was finding so many ways to say "WTF are the Vikings doing?"

I need to actually go and watch a game if I'm ever to get a grip on what's going on. Jolly good fun though, and we really need to switch to 'Jerusalem' or 'Land of Hope & Glory' for these events. 'God save the Queen' was even more of a dirge than usual.

On Danny Baker's programme a few weeks ago they had a Football (Association) historian on. The term 'scrimmage' comes from the line of footballers who would effectively form a 'flying wedge' formation in front of the player with the ball. From his description of football in the mid 1800's it seems it would look more like American football than the Football that was eventually codified in the Laws of Association Football.

Thanks for that. It kind of makes sense as the 'point of departure' between rugby, football, and other games happened around 150 years ago.
