From 'GamerBytes':

Quote:
The Australian classification website has just updated with a whopper of a scoop - 'R-Type Dimensions' is coming to the Xbox Live Arcade!

From what we can gather, the game is being published by Microsoft themselves, and not title creators Irem, who recently released R-Type Tactics to the PSP. The game is being developed by Tozai Inc, who are also currently working on the fantastic looking 'Lode Runner' for Xbox Live Arcade.

Will it be a new version of R-Type, or a variation of a previous title? It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Surprising how the Xbox 360 has become the platform of choice for these kinds of games.

Also rated this week were 'A Kingdom for Keflings' as well as the first of anything about 'Penny Arcade Episode 2', which we should see more about at PAX.

Gonna be a bittersweet experience, this one, especially as R-Type Final was supposed to be the curtain call for 'proper' R-Type games, and as Irem are adamant that they won't make another one. Here's hoping its heart is in the right place. :)

(Look to Delta, Tozai, not Final, and study the series' art direction!)

Hmm, interesting. Any idea how long a gap there is between a game being classified and being published?

I've no idea, mate. My only recent frame of reference is Mega Man 9, whose classification was doing the rounds on the net less than a week or two before its official announcement. That's coming out very soon, so hopefully this won't be too far off! :)

meep!!!

I love R-Type games!

and yet I hate them.

Generally I love them up to and including level 3 and then they punish you for even daring to play them.

A classification board will want to see contentious parts of the game running and probably some indicative (translated) text to work out how violent / mature the game will be.

This probably falls somewhere just after alpha milestone in game development. I'd expect the game would have at least 3 months to go, though throwing Microsoft's own certification process into that makes it anybody's guess.

Mileage will also vary between classification boards.

So, erm, yeah. Expect it for Christmas or before, I'd (unhelpfully) say.

That's only true of R-Type II really, mate. Anybody could beat Delta and III on a single credit if they gave 'em a chance and stuck with 'em for a week. I guarantee it!

The only one I ever played much of was the original... and I could get up to level 5 but generally didn't make it past there...

There was an excellent Amiga version too, with some unique but really cool loading music.

Aye, Hülsbeck did that. :DD

I wonder who's working on the music for this one? The guys who did Delta's soundtrack were unknowns at the time, but I'd love for them to pop out of the woodwork here...
