And so the fourth Eurovision style vote for this fortnight's photography challenge on the subject 'Black and White' is launched.

A quick reminder of the theme:

This month's theme, chosen by Richard Gaywood, was:'BLACK AND WHITE'.

Mimi paraphrasing Richard Gaywood wrote:
'Though the theme is 'black and white', photos should not be wholly dependent on being in monochrome. Think laterally and explore contrast of content and texture, light and dark, etc. Photos in monochrome are still, of course, welcomed, but this shouldn't be the sole focus of the black and white theme.

How the eurovision style vote works

It couldn't be simpler. Really, it couldn't. Decide which are your favourite three pictures, in order. In the poll click on the link that matches your MOST favourite picture (which will get three points), then, after that, click the link that corresponds to your SECOND favourite picture (which will receive two points), and then the third (one point). You MUST click in that order though favourite>second favourite>third favourite.

Simple dimple, yes?

Oh, and you can't click 'photo X' three times and award it all six points, that would be cheating! (and it is set up to prevent this, anyway... :P)

4, 1 and 6 in that order for me. I had a fantastic idea for a photo but couldn't get access to the props that I would have needed in time.

2, 5 and 3 in that order for me. 2 because it is a great picture of something very ordinary, 5 because I'm a sucker for a dramatic outside shot and 3 because it tickled my sense of humour.

5, 2, 1 for me, all purely for reasons of aesthetics.

I chose three, because I thought it paid best note to the topic, then the tea bags, because I thought tea - you can have it black or white, and then photo six, just because I liked the image and it wasn't of something I recognised - maybe a slow shutter speed and some points of light, maybe reflections in a pool, I have no idea.

5, 3 & 1. Should we have maybe had less choices this week as there weren't many entries?

No, I said less that six and I would have edited down the number of options, and I stuck with that to see how it goes. There seems to be a good spread of points - everyone has some, but there are distinct numbers between the forerunners (though tied second place) so I think the balance is OK.

I like No. 1 best. It has nice simple, clean lines of dark and light, and the whole thing contrasts nicely against the blanket white sky. Ace.

I didn't have any time to do anything this fortnight. I'm really bogged down with work :(

Sorry if you haven't got round to it yet and I'm nagging!

I think you have to actually log in on the gallery page - the membership privileges according the photo comp sign in aren't high enough to give you access to anything other than that area of the site.

It is the reflection of the water on the hull one of the Tall Ships that visited Liverpool recently. A slightly different angle is attached.

Ironically, I found some better ones in black and white from that day, and the one I did use could have been used in the "reflection" challenge.

Oh, I took a screenshot yesterday at closing. I couldn't submit a post though as it was being a bit funny. Let me find where it was in case the scores have changed since then.

EDIT: oh, well they are the same, anyway, but there they are as a record.

Piccy three was mine (the Zebras at Edinburgh Zoo).

Cheated slightly as they're strictly more dark brownish and white.
