Having recently rediscovered my lost-since-Christmas DS, I can now send it back to Nintendo to fix my broken shoulder button. Once they do that, what games have I missed out on? The last one I got was Zelda.

I have that Korg synth thing on my radar, the third Phoenix Wright, and probably the new Advance Wars. I already have most of the games I'm interested in up to the end of 2007 (hmm, except Hotel Dusk); what new releases should I be looking for?

Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - I love it but it's a Marmite game and a HUGE time pit.

pic-pic is a fun puzzle game with 3 different types of puzzles although I only really play one of them now but Ive done over 150 of them which must say something.

Tsumiki-The Infernal Tower-tower building game with triangles and squares and stuff with requirements for each level, really worth checking out.

I heard ninja gaiden game is meant to be good.

I will pass on FFTA-2. Partly because the career system in FFTA scared the bejeezus out of my (it made my latent OCD twitch sooooo bad) and partly because I have all the turn based strategy I can cope with via Disgaea and Jean D'Arc on PSP.

Runcle's puzzle games, Space Invaders Extreme and World Ends With You can go on my list. Metal Angel is ranting about WEWY all the time.

Ninja Gaiden I'll pass on because intense action games really hurt my hands on both DS and PSP.

Kurupoto: Cool Cool Stars - Is an awesome little puzzle game, not new but probably overlooked by many.

Yeah, didn't realise they'd transposed the release dates. Idiots. PW3 isn't even out yet it seems.

In the UK no it's not. I got mine (and indeed my PW4, as American versions from Play Asia)

Having played the first 2 you probably get this but for fucks sake do play 3 (Trials and Tribulations) before 4 (Apollo Justice : Ace Attorney)

OK, noted. And yes I played the first two to completion and wouldn't contemplate playing them out of order!

If you missed it then Professor Layton and the Curious Village is quite fun.

recently I've spent a lot of time with Trauma Centre 2 (although this may depend on how much you liked the first one)

And as already mentioned Space Invaders Extreme is a must

Have you updated the firmware yet Runcle? Did you try to pull the save data of the mem card?

The DS version of Rhythm Tengoku is out. It's very Japanese heavy, and it's worth bearing in mind that unlike the GBA original an english release is coming, but still if you're a fan of the original it's absolutely brilliant.

Bleach Blade of Fate is pretty good its a Treasure game after all and Rune Factory is also halfway good, you'll need working shoulder buttons for that one though.

Ah the DS, the very reason I'll never purchase a Wii. Lovely console but only a handful of games you'd actually want to own. Haven't touched mine in months.

Not until they improve the compatibility and sound. CPC Kwik Snax on the DS with proper sound would be enough for me to get the DS out again.

PicPic alone is almost a good reason to get a DS. Then you find there's Slitherlink, Essential Sudoku and then you find Phoenix Wright.

I recently got this, keen to get more out of my DS than periodically weeding my Animal Crossing town every six weeks, but then becoming so vexed by all the weeding, that I cast it aside for another six weeks. And so on.

Despite genuine excitement on its arrival, I was soon wearing what is perhaps best described as "a very sour face indeed".
The finger of blame can be pointed mainly at loathsome main character Neku, a vile, antisocial little oik who speaks exclusively in emo soundbites - much as one imagines a cloned teenage Tony Blair might do if you were raising him in secret on a disadvantaged estate in East Hell. Alas - my hatred for him ran so deep - I soon took to involuntarily assaulting him with the stylus. Even when he was on the top screen.

Additionally I also found myself totally adrift with the control system. The tappity tap tap of the top screen's DPad inputs was straight forward enough, but doing this simultaneously with Neku's stylus themed dragging, tapping and scraping on the bottom screen never really clicked with me at all.

Technically it's a great display of what the DS can do, and the setting (sort of an odd parallel Tokyo in which you're compelled to play "The Reaper's Game" in order to survive - CAUTION: Reaper's Game involves killing a lot of frogs) is entertainingly not just the usual dwarves wandering into people's houses and helping themselves to the treasure chest.

I played it every night for a week before dejectedly trading it in for £20.

Post subject:  Re: Recent DS games RMD

Unfortunately, TWEWY tries a lot of very unusual, controversial things... so some folks are bound to hate it (and with any luck, post a few minutes later in another thread bitching about the lack of innovation in games these days, etc).

Neku is indeed a hateful fucker - the whole point is that you hate him but carry on because it's hard not to like Shiki and/or feel sorry for Shiki having to put up with his angsty shit. It gets even better in the second chapter when Neku has finally developed the first glimmers of a personality and is then forced to hang around with someone who is just as smug and irritating to him as he was to Shiki... watching Neku squirm in frustration during each conversation makes me grin.

You aren't really meant to control both screens at the same time, you know - that's what the light puck is for. However it is currently flashing on will do more damage... so the idea is to volley some attacks off with Neku, who passes the puck to Shiki. Do one of her attacks, and she passes it back. With each pass back and forth your attacks get stronger and stronger, and you'll find you're winning fights a lot more quickly too.

I will grant it does take a lot of getting used to, but that's why there's two sliders to adjust the difficulty.

My girlfriend enjoys Pic Pic a lot. It was a birthday present that took a while to track down, but I made the effort out of :luv:.

No idea where to buy Slitherlink from though. Seems like some DS games only have annoying small print runs...

Yes. If everyone - say - picked up two weeds a day there'd be no problem. It's especially galling when you visit the Post Office to be told everyone's cheesed off about the weed problem. You've got two/four paws/hooves haven't you?

Bah.

Well, that's what you get for moving into a village populated entirely by independently wealthy, retired animals. They don't *have to* do anything... hell, they'd get their copies on the Daily Mail on tape except that playing them would require physically putting them into the player and pushing 'play'.

And someone else who needs a good twatting upside the head is that beaver/gopher/groundhog that judges the fishing contest. Well, now that I know the fish isn't that great, GIVE IT BACK, IT'S MINE. You certainly don't get to fucking eat it as your 'fee' for measuring it.
