Yes, I know. This is one with a difference.

Basically, the winners of this Thursday game will be the person that completes the following level the fastest and the slowest.
http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=154353

Save your superfast efforts and post the links here, and an official judge (moi) will time them.

Hint: If you are new to the game, play the tutorial and first levels to get the idea. And also because it's awesome fun.

Nobody here except me seems to link the wheels together. A group of wheels which can't rotate independently will experience the combined force of all wheels on any point of contact. (More efficiently if you link together the tops and bottoms if they're a horizontal set, or the lefts and rights if they're a vertical set. Triangular arrangements of wheels can also be created by linking together all of any one like node).

You could probably get my one working faster with more wheels, and a slight adjustment to the aim so that the object ball hits the small ball on the farthest right and heads directly into the centre of the goal box at speed. You might need to add weight to the object ball though.

Ah yes, I link 'em. My lifter for Unpossible has a crapload of linked wheels. You can generate enough force to seriously mangle stuff, that way :)
If you use counter-rotating wheels stacked close together, they'll mesh and help each other as well.

And indeed you can improve Mr D's design, here's quick refinement of that. (Obviously don't count that as a win for me)

Jesus MrD, you could have waited before posting that! :)

I think we should change it to slowest.

Here's a slow one.

Sure it could be made slower.

I can't get slower than this:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=155431

It takes about 10 minutes*, spends most of the time spazzing out, and when it finally does manage to clear the balls, it takes about 3 minutes to tackle the first step.

It's beautiful to watch though, in a car-crash sort of way.

*or it seems like it. I'm timing it now. About 5:30 in total, after timing it. Feels like an eternity.

I can't do a slow one, they're just too boring to test!

My best one was a triangular car with a large brown spike sticking out of its front wheel. All of the wheel nodes were joined together. This meant it had pulsating rails along its edges, and made it ride every single ball back down the stairs, making the machine fall off the edge most times. The spike sometimes helped it climb things, but most of the time the spike found its way to the front of the machine, got jammed on a stair, made the entire thing flip anticlockwise and tumble down the stairs onto one of the other balls. Damn spike kept getting trapped on the raised bit of land above the goal though.

Code:

That's brilliantly slow. It did break the game on my machine though:

Okay, Mr D is currently fastest with a time of (very fast), and LaceSensor is slowest with a time of seven minutes and eighteen seconds.

I can't get Lacesensor's one to work on my computer. It keeps getting stuck, but it has got stuck in two different places each time.

Is this massively dependent on what memory you have available at the time or what?

I built that on my work PC which is worse than shit.
Dont have a stopwatch here though so I couldnt time it.

You are correct though, it seems to run differently depending on the machine for some reason.
Also I think minor minor changes in the physics can sometimes cause it to break or get stuck.

9/10 on my PC (home and work) it gets the job done (slowly however).

I must confess I didn't, as you said it shouldn't count.

New champions, then!

No, actually. It's about the one thing the N95 doesn't have (unless I can't find it).
