I'm a big fan of playing the drums, so I'm curious to see what it is that other people get out of Rock Band. I'm wondering if us drummers are in the minority or if that's the main interest with it being unfamiliar.

I'm all about the guitar, mainly because I don't have any drums.

I luff the drums and singing. My guitar is still wrapped up in plastic in the box - I haven't tried it yet.

I didn't vote in the poll because I like drums and vocal equally and do them both together, so I can't really place an accurate vote.

I voted drums; I can get through any song on medium without breaking a sweat and have done 15ish on hard. I need to get more practice in on hard though. And I can do one song on expert (Maps), purely because I looped it in practice mode for over an hour until I had it figured out, more or less.

If we have people over I normally play expert bass though.

Where's the option for "Can't afford it"?

To show off? :smug:

What's bass like, in terms of difficulty, compared to guitar?

Defintely easier, by at least one notch I'd guess. As my feyonce reminds me everytime I bring this up (she can do hard level guitar on pretty much everything, expert on some things). I can make a stab at hard guitar on the easier songs, but it's not that respectable.

Some of the Metallica and Black Sabbath are very tiring though, the bass line has an awful lot of very fast notes. Particularly if you are trying to play upstrum only for showboating reasons!

Also, although it's easier to get through the song if you are playing for points the bass can be tricky. The score multiplier goes up to 6x rather than 4x so the bassist scores a disproportionate number of the band's points, as long as they are accurate enough to stay up at that 6x bonus.

Guitar in solo (onto the last tier of songs on Hard now, and I'm absurdly pleased with myself about it), bass in band play. Although the vocals are a good laugh, too. I suck mightily at drums.

They do seem to be an acquired taste. MetalAngel struggled when he tried round my place, but tuned into it after a couple of goes. Other people who have tried it round my place have just been completely baffled by it though.

Drums, except I broke them and just sing now.

I think mine have had it too. What's up with yours? My yellow pad doesn't always register now, and if I place my hand on it and press down, I can feel it catching insde.

Plus the start button doesn't work on my Strat either. Need to arrange returning them.

As per my esteemed colleague's assertions, I go primarily for the drums (though I am still unable to get my head around the kick pedal, due in no small part to the fact that it feels extremely flimsy and I am loathe to break it) but am far happier on bass with the Rockband guitar than I ever was on lead or with the Guitar Hero guitar.

Rightly or wrongly, I think I'm going to wait for GH:WT, as the drumkit might not fall apart.

To be fair I've beaten the holy living shit out of mine. I don't seem to be able to stop myself. It's also turned in something like 80 hours of gameplay now, all told, I reckon. Plus it's only just slightly wonky, and not actually broken. I may even crack the lid off it and fix it to save returning it.

I'm more irked about the guitar failing as that's not seen much use.

I wouldn't hold out for the GH4 drums being much better. It's just damned hard to make these things on this sort of budget, I think.

True, but RedOctane have had a track record in producing fairly decent kit.

:this: I've got two guitars and a headset so all I need are the drums and I wasn't too fussed about that. Jasmine and I alternate between Bass and Guitar as doing Bass all the time would get a little boring. I have a thing about singing in front of other people though so I've yet to try any of the vocals.

What he said! Might I suggest some alcohol this weekend to whet your vocal chords a little...? ;)

I've not played it a few days due to being rather busy but I'm about half way through the drums hard tour but I can do a few songs on expert like Gimme Shelter. I think I've done MAPS expert as well. I really struggled to do Are You Gonna Be My Girl on hard and Paranoid took some getting used to with its one hit of yellow and two bass drums.

The drum rolls are quite hard because you have to hit at the exact points they suggest which I doubt many drummers really would do in reality.
