I remember a while ago someone took the opportunity to pimp their girlfriend's shop on the forums, and so I thought that I might take the opportunity to do the same.

Here is the newly opened www.eskimimi.com shop :smug:

Ooh, I have been so stressed this past week! But now it is done, and it is working.

Any constructive criticism/suggestions/advice would be very welcome, and any linkage would be rewarded with a thousand monkey hugs.

I shall look at the link soon, but first my wife says to say thank you for the link to that other site. She loves it.

Looks good - is it using OsCommerce or something different? I'll add a link on Consolemad to it if you just let me know what description you'd like for the link. :)

I'll put this on skeptobot's new fart.

Not that anyone is reading whilst it's on hiatus. But it's the thought that counts...

That stuff's really, really good mimi,

But I do admit, at first glance I thought this was rather rude...

How quick could you send something off, Mimi? I have a large bee shaped hole in a present list that needs filling by Friday.

Site looks darn good, and the design is triffic. The only thing I've seen wrong is a typo on the "About" page "menas" instead of "means".

Well, I am posting out the first items tomorrow. I am sending all items by recorded as well, so as soon as you like - all items are already made, so there is no waiting time for despatch :)

Yeah, I know, I think it is ace. I was hoping some kind of women's empowerment type might pick it up, but didn't want to call it 'labia of the world' pendant, or anything.

EDIT: Sorry - I just noticed what you said about the linkage - that's fantastic! Thanks so much!

Done but there's plenty of room for a lengthier description if you really want to sell yourself*. ;)

*Not literally, obviously - getting yourself into a jiffy bag and down to the post office could be tricky.

Distinctly tempted by the peas card holder, then I could keep my actual wallet with coins in, in my bag not my pocket...

I carry a bag everywhere, I want a purse.... that's not a manly revelation is it?... er I WILL USE IT TO PAY FOR WEAPONS TO DISPATCH MY ENEMIES...

That's better.

There appears to be 5 sections with "Eskimimi is working very hard to make sure that some lovely new things will be listed here very soon." as the description.

You may want to remove a couple because:
a) it looks unfinished, and people get suspicious about unfinished things, and
b) when you do have something to put in there, it allows you to shout NEW STUFF at everyone to get their attention. Which is good.

Other than that, love the layout of the site simple, uncluttered, yet cute! :D

Just noticed a couple of typo's:
http://www.eskimimi.com/shipping.php
Payment, Shipping & Returns Payment, Shipping & Returns
Payment
All credit and debit card payments are independently processed by Google Checkout and Nochex on their secure servers. At no point in the payment process does Eskimimi.com have access to customers’ payment data. Prices displayed are in £GBP (pound sterling). Please refer to www.xe.com for up to date information on current exchange rates.

Shipping
Shipping on most items takes 1-3 days and delivery times will vary depending on location for overseas orders. All overseas orders are sent via airmail and as an appoximate guide we estimate 1-3 days for orders withing the UK, 4-7 days for European orders and 5-10 days for the rest of the world. Certain items, due to their hand-made nature, are made-to-order, or have an element of personalisation to them. These orders may have a longer estimated dispatch time, and this will be noted on the product page. If you require an item for a certain date (as a gift, for example), please use the Contact Us form to inform us of this and we will do everything possible to accomodate your wishes.

Shipping charges are calculated as below:

First Item Additional items
UK £1.99 + £0.30
Western Europe £2.49 + £0.50
Everywhere Else £2.99 + £0.50

Returns
In the very unlikely event that an item reaches you faulty or damaged, please use the Contact Us form to arrange for a return and replacement of the item. Please not that custom-made and personalised items cannot be returned unless faulty or damaged.

Do you get paid for linking through to http://www.xe.com? if not, it may be worth finding an exchange rate page which will pay you and having a direct link to them? I don't know how these things work, so just suggesting. I am sure someone here will know though.

Thanks for letting me know - I'll go and change them now :D

I I don't get paid for linking to XE.com, but I doubt the amount of raffic I'll have would warrant that anyway, and I don't know if such a thing exists. I am clueless in these matters, though.

Does anyone have experience with having Google 'Adsense' adverts on their site? Any idea of how much revenue can be gleamed from it?

May be an idea if it isn't too intrusive.

I shall bung a link to my feyonce when the site is full of goodies. She pimps sites she loves all over the place.

Nice little site there and I might order something for my girlfriend's birthday which is soon.

Also Mimi, you could try advertising yourself on the radio: With Virgin radio's little business of the week

It's free and you get to go and radio and talk all about your website.

Why is everything on there not lumped under "cute"?

I'd love some little plastic zombees to stick around my monitor edge.

Hi Mimi,

That's a great site with some lovely things... Congratulations!!

Just a small point, on the links on the left hand side.. You've spelt stationary with an "E" instead of an "A".

Good luck with it! I hope it makes you a lot of money!!!

I can see a couple of issues there Craimi.

Firsty, it's not great having unrelated ads on an already commercial site, especially one with as unique a style as Eskimimi.

Secondly, Adsense is based on keywords right? Watch it link straight to your competitors!

People seem to like the zombees - the zombee purse was a request design by the person who placed the first order (for a pea purse)

Yarrrr, I hope it makes me a little bit of money for Munkeh food, too. We have recently adopted a 'giant monk' (I shall have to take pictures, soon) and have you sen the price of bananas recently?

I wasn't sure if you were joking about the 'stationery' with an 'e' or if it was a genuine mistake. I only realised it was spelled with an 'e' a few months back - I can't remember if I just noticed one day or someone pointed out that I had mis-spelled it, but stationary, with an 'a' means, as Dudley says, something that is not in motion. With an 'e' it means paper and office gods, that kind of thing.

Looking good, must have put a fair few hours into creating your new site Mimi.

Craig did much of the background work, I just tarted it up and changed it to how I wanted it to look/behave.

Depends what it is, really. Small, popular things about 3-6 of each, larger things, purses and so on I make three of each on, but I always have materials to make more of, so if I am down to my last I'll knock another three up.

The site looks really good, Mimi. Cute and clean, easy to look at.

Ooh, and I am glad you said 'clean' - I wanted it to be still cute, but not overwhelming or cluttered, but it is hard to step back and see how effective this is when you have been staring at it for so long.

From a design standpoint, it feels somewhat cramped, which is a shame when you consider that the general graphic design is pretty good. I would suggest adding 10px of space between the masthead graphics (igloo, penguins, etc.) and the tabs, and at least the same between your sidebar and your main content. At present, you have things like 'Terms and conditions' about two pixels away from your sidebar sections.

To some extent, the same kind of thing occurs throughout the site. Let your designs breathe, and the site will feel more relaxed, and it'll be easier for users to focus on various elements.

It also might be worth shifting the account links to the shopping basket sidebar area.

Oh, hehe - that's all excellent suggestion, thankyou so much Craig G!

I shall set about doing those things after I've had my celebratory lunch. Thanks again for the suggestions, that's a big help!
