Eurogamer should be doing a live text feed.
You can watch a live video feed here: http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html?tag=event_nav;live

Rumoured to be about the new add on for 'true' 1:1 control, Animal Crossing Wii, Punch out and that game about Pit. The angel bow and arrow guy. I forget...

http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/eMMuRj_N6vntHPDycCJAKWhEO9zBvyPH

Quote:
Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

What the hell is this?

Ah, so this to give proper 1:1? In that case - YES PLEASE!

Please a) be awesome
and b) come bundled with Wii Sports 2.

Is Clone Wars a Star Wars game? Will it have a light sabre? Will I get to control said light sabre with a Wii Controller Motion plus + plus? I will pay any money they want for this!

(Plus it might make golfing a bit easier, I am rubbish at putting ATM)

I have prayed for this, since I first saw the Wii, this was the very first idea which came into my head. By God, they better not let me down now!

Back on topic, did they give any idea how much this Wii motion plus + plus would cost?

Not really. The Wiimote identifies general movements and matches them to pre-defined sequences. That's why you can cheat and just make small, sharp movements instead of swinging your whole arm around. And why that FPS game with a sword (whatever it was called) just had a few different sword movement patterns instead of copying exactly what you did.

Indeed, it will be interesting to see how they sell this in the conference today, without slagging of the current Wii.

Aye.

The thing with nintendo now is, that they are all about software selling for a long time, rather than the big splash, price crash that everybody else has. So I'm expecting them to jabber on about Wii Fit and the like for quite a while.

Still it will help me work if they do.

Kid Icurus, Punch Out, Wii Remote++, Wario Land Shake, Some Wii Ware stuff.

Is what I expect.

I'm hoping they announce "play from SD cards" to deal with the memory problem, but I doubt it...

Not really, but it will appease the fanboys whilst appealing to their mainstream audience, so it seems likely.

Animal Crossing Wii comes with "Wii Speak" which isn't a headset. Its a microphone mounted on the Sensor Bar and broadcasts your whole room to each other.

What a huge disappointment that was. Loads of "lifestyle" games and Animal fucking Crossing?

Yeah that was poor. At least the MS one had the FFXIII thing at the end to make it funny.

Wii Sports 2 packed in with the 1:1 thing is an instant by from me, the fencing looked awesome, and it makes sense as it will make the adoption of the gizmo huge.

Wii Music looked fucking awful, but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

GTA:DS was nothing but a logo - but still exciting.

Animal Crossing with a microphone "for your living room" also looks awesome. I can see it as a good way to replace phone calls, especially as non-bezzie-people-I-know-in-real-life have a Wii.

CoD5:WaW looked good actually. As did the clone wars game - which had a beautiful art style. But as it's coming before 1:1 then whats the point?

The Balance board snowboarding looked good too, but I doubt I would get it...

But by god was it a tedious, awful show.

I'm well into this generation, which coincided with me beginning to earn a decent living wage. I've got a Wii and a 360Elite, with all the requisite Wii Wheels, Classic Controllers, 360 Keypads and Live!Vision cameras one might hope for, apart form the scarce balance board (which my missus is willing to go halves with me on when you can get them). I've no PS3, so no Bluh-Ray or Motorstorm for me, but I can live with that, frankly. I've listed the announcements that made me want the thing they were announcing.

So then, Nintendo things I want, priced for everything but the games (at an assumed £35 or so) each:

Animal Crossing (+ WiiTalk or whatever @ +£30 on the game price?)
GTA DS (I've got an R4...)
Wii Sports Resort (+£30 for the 1:1 plugin)
Another 1:1 plugin so's I can play the missus/ a mate £30-35?
A balance board for all the other stuff £35 from me
Wii Music
Wii Sonwboarding
Wii Star Wars (If the wiimote functionality is better than the 360's Hi-Def)

Total: £120-135 (excluding game purchases - there's always going to be a few games I want announced at these things any system)

Xbox 360:

GoW 2
Banjo XBLA
Too Human
FFXIII (Not liked one since 7, but I'll be giving this a go, maybe secnd hand)
Resi 5 (I'm a white supremacist and so on)
Fallout 3
Fable 2
Fallout XBLA
1 vs 100 XBLA
Geometry Wars 2 (squee - loved Galaxies on the wii but my new hi-def telly and 360 made me lov it a bit less - 360 control and resolution ftw, Wii levels ftw - GW2 should be the ideal compromise).
Galaga Whatsit - if this is close to Space Invaders Extreme, I'm going to have a third pillar to my 360 shooing to back up Space Giraffe and RezHD.
Portal XBLA
South Park
Install games to HD - anyone with a big hard drive can have noiseless GTA4 :D
New interface - w00t
Avatars (Miis bore me now - want more)
Netflix

Total cost above and beyond cost of games/movie expenditure: £0

Now, I'll grant you there's more to spend on titles on the 360 (although many of my must-haves are on XBLA) but Nintendo are asking me for a big hardware spend to get a few more games (and I've not really played Wii Sorts or suchlike much ayway) while I could otherwise get Rock band 360, thus being able to get all the 360 Guitar Hero titles cheap (I have GHIII on Wii, so no achievements, other games I can use the controller on) and the DLC for both, and future releases. So I'm not sure.

If I spent not one penny, no games, nothing, Microsoft are giving me two good reasons to be happy in the new interface and hard drive installation by choice, while Nintendo are giving me fuck all.

I think most of my money is going 360-wards. I'll splash out randomly on my pick of the Wii stuff, but use it little, I imagine, and regret it slightly as a result, though I'll love owning and showing off what I've got Wii-wise.

/edit and Gridrunner+++ for XBLA if Jeff decides that is what he's doing (He's open to exploring a Steam release). I've played it, a few months back, and if it hasn't been broken in the meantime Space Giraffe bitterness is certain to dissipate amongst grumblers. More immediate, easier to see and still as wilfully innovative and hardcore as other Llamasoft stuff, what I liked about it was summed up recently 'over there' by someone who stated "You are the bullet hell source in this game, not the enemies". Not verbatim but that is about right.

Yeah, my wii's been largely in the box since Super Paper Mario and it's staying there I think. I've got no particular wish to spend a minimum of £60 on new hardware (because you'll need at least 2) just to occasionally play a few new Wii Sports when people are drunk.

I really don't understand Wii music at all. It seems to be entirely removed from needing any kind of skill at all. "Wave the remote around, and the wii will interpret this as music"

Meh.

You mean that's what the Wii itself does.

The remote itself isn't going to be doing any matching inside, right?

I genuinely can't imagine anyone wanting to buy that. It's worrying because it suggests Nintendo's gotten a bit complacent; Wii Sports and Wii Fit were causal games, but they had a clear hook and obvious appeal. I'm not sure that this has either. To be honest it seems almost contemptous to its audience to expect them to buy this as it is right now.

Wii music is blatantly going to be a fun multiplayer toy. With the ability to do music videos with your miis this is a likely winner at chilled parties, it might well be a multiplayer mainstream Electroplankton or Fluid for the masses. Plus it'll sell by the fuckwad so you might as well enjoy it.

Let's play it and then make up our minds, yeah? VC game storage and Stars points aside, Nintendo have raped everyone's expectations and become gamings coca-cola in under three years. Probably a mistake to write them off on anything, just as it would be to expect too much. As such Wii Music will probably be just about worth the money. A cert for anyone who regularly uses their wii for casual party gaming, in a 'guitar hero for your mate's stupid girlfriend' kind of way.

But will it sell loads? I don't honestly see that being a foregone conclusion. I'm not saying this as a HARDCORE GAMER; I genuinely can't see this having mass appeal in the way the other WiiThing games do. I'm also not sure how fun it'll be in multiplayer if there's not much scope to fail, but I'll reserve judgement because it's too early to say.

You can't say "let's play it before forming an opinion" then express an opinion in the same paragraph! In any case you haven't explained why you think Wii Music has an appeal, or why you think it'll work as a casual game. It's not impossible for a successful company to become complacent, and it's not impossible for a game to be shit after semi-similar games weren't.

According to http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/guita ... matrix-v2/ the Rock Band guitar doesn't work with GH2 or 3, although it might work with GH:Aerosmith. Um, yay?

GH controllers, on the other hand, work with both.

I just think of all the people who have enjoyed using my Wii and I can't think of any that wouldn't go for this.

I used to show everyone the trailers from the E3 where the Wii was announced properly. Wii Music (what you saw of it) was very much the stand-out clip for most people. So long as youccan cock about in enough different ways and compete a little it should satisfy the majority of 'casual' gamer's expectations. Also it's a high-profile first party Wii title - there's fuck all else to be interested in really.

Let's be clear that this is the case because Activision/Red Octane are cunts and not great.
