The BBC news page ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36707266 ) says "Clarkson was fired from the show after he punched a producer following a row about the provision of food late at night while filming on location.", which is somewhat different to "we're going to let your presenting contract run out, but you'll still own a chunk of the show".

I wonder if they'll change it - they have in the past.

He gets money every time the series is renewed, so does Andy Wilman. Probably something to do with them authoring the format, or something.

Yes. They're covered by Ofcom because they're delivered by Amazon UK. Netflix is not regulated in the UK because it's fully incorporated abroad.

I don't really see why the Top Gear story is the biggest story on the BBC site at the mo, but at least it means Farage's photo getting a little smaller.

So far only the flag ship of truth, The Daily Mail and OK Magazine are running this though, every other paper is just focused on the Top Gear story.

Guess there is a good chance this is bollocks then :D

It was clearly good, funny padding though. You may not have liked it, but it was the world's most highly syndicated TV show for a reason.

Unless you mean it's shit and unfunny with LeBlanc and Evans doing it here, and I've misunderstood.

I think it was surely on its last legs anyway, it had got so repetitive. If they're going to do anything with Top Gear then it'll need to be something other than a remake of The Jeremy Clarkson show but with someone else reading his lines.

I agree, it needed refreshing, or just a bloody good long break. Top Gear w/Clarkson is still funny to me, but that's because I only watch the odd episode every couple of weeks/months. It really isn't something for constant rotation like on Dave or whatever that channel is called now. After so many series, it's fair to say that it had, or was close to, running its course.

There is definitely space for a car show with a good sense of humour and fun. Striking the balance, and getting engaging presenters with some chemistry, is obviously tricky.

It hasn't been good for ages though. 2002-2010 it was pretty untouchable. I've seen some of the more recent stuff and it's almost embarrassing. Definitely of its time.

I suppose I should add, that for me, it has. Funny as it was there are only so many times I can watch the old episodes.... and the more I watched them the creakier and more stale the newer (C,H,M) ones seem.

No denying it is still bloody popular though.

I find it highly unlikely that syndication deals for Nu-Nu Top Gear have been struck since this season started to air, which means that the level of syndication says absolutely nothing about the quality or reception of the show - merely that there was an expectation it would be popular.

They hate him enough to make his show the most popular BBC export for several years, and popular enough to still trade on that name after he's gone?

You clearly don't hate him as much as you claim.

I'm not a fan of the show and haven't got a clue if this is actually backed up with any facts, but the Bing homescreen today has a boxout that says "Martin for Top Gear?" with a picture of James Martin.

I can't think of anyone worse at presenting than him. How he's got a job on TV is beyond me...

I used to quite enjoy Saturday Kitchen and thought he was OK on that.

I did see a program (or perhaps I read about it) when he was doing some classic car race in europe and he acted like a really whiny, spoiled bitch the whole way through it because the old car (it might have been a really old Maserati) broke down a few times and he wasn't sure he would be able to participate. He really came across as a prick.
