Mr Giuffrida was told to repeat his driving test or have his licence suspended because of his "sexual identity disturbance".

Mr Giuffrida passed his test for the second time but his licence was renewed for just one year rather than the usual 10 years because of his homosexuality.

A court in Catania, Sicily, ordered the ministries to pay damages on the basis that Mr Giuffrida's constitutional rights had been breached and that homosexuality could not be considered a "mental illness".

The judge said the actions of the ministries showed "evident sexual discrimination".

Mr Giuffrida welcomed the sentence as "a step forwards for civil rights."

As much as I'd love to believe this story, I highly doubt that it happened quite like that...

/considers a joke connecting women, gays, and bad driving, but thinks better of it.

the positve thing here is that he won in court, so, the army may be filled with bigotys, for once the itralian court system actually worked to upheld the constitution (if you're following berlusconi's lates judicial 'initiatives' to make 'italians justice work more efficiciently' (effectivily by making him untouchable), this is actually a pleasant surpirse..

Sexuality has nothing to do with it. Most Italians are dreadful drivers, the amount of times I have almost had accidents on the Autostrada due to FUCKING LANE DRIFTING.

Although as a nation petrol runs through their veins and they have a very pragmatic approach to speed limits on the motorway.

My favourite moment of driving in Italy was coming up behind a Polizia Alfa in my friend's Mondeo ST, the ST can shift a bit and we were doing (ahem)MPH so we did the usual British thing of forming up behind the police. There was a German registered 911 Turbo (an 80s 930, lovely) doing the same in the lane next to us.
So we sat there for a minute or 2 until a white gloved hand came out of the Police car and urged the 911 driver to gun it, so he did and they just gave him a massive thumbs up as he flew past.
I could never imagine that happening in the UK.

I was riding behind someone in a Daewoo Matiz the other day, when I saw the girl lean down to pick something up off the floor, giving the steering wheel a good tug in the process. I swear, if she'd have turned any sharper she'd have barrel-rolled the car. That would have been fucking awesome to see.
