Landing RC stuff on the ground is dull. What you want to do is build an Avengers-style RC flying aircraft carrier then land RC planes on that...

I've decided my plan for this year is to build that 250 quad thing from the previous page.

I wants one so bad.

You really should, they're super fun and I reckon that if it's FPV anyone used to playing FPS shooters on twin sticks can adapt to flying them pretty quickly.

Had an enjoyable couple of lunchtimes playing out with Zardoz this week. Also had a bit of time to do some more work on the mini-quad, a bit of tuning (still needs a bit of work, yaw could be quicker, there's some oscillations on the hard stops and a tiny amount of bounceback in pitch and roll, almost there though) and also angled the cameras up quite a lot more so that I can fly faster and still see where I'm going. It's the most fun thing to fly.

It's a low voltage alarm, but the voltage sags as you draw more power, so if you punch the throttle it can beep even though there's actually quite a bit of juice left.

I'd like to think I'd be good at that.

And hey, at least it'd be a car that I'd be crashing and not a multirotor.

It would be great having a quad set up to fly slightly ahead of you giving you a feed of the road for hooning down country lanes.

I'd buy one and get bored of it in a day I expect.

It costs £350ish.

Hmmm...

How much would one of you charge to follow me around for a day carrying a go pro on a stick?

There’s a smaller, cheaper one. I’ll post a link when I’m back near a computer.

Looking to buy a car. My lady and I live 200ft from the beach so I'm thinking buggy, possibly Nitro. When the tide goes out there's literally miles of flat sand.

It depends what you want out of it then really. I.C. motors have the singular advantage that you don't need to worry about recharging batteries. But batteries are pretty cheap now and the run times quite long. Personally I don't think there's really a lot to recommend about a noisy, temperamental little engine that's just going to irritate anyone within earshot. In addition if you decide you want to start tuning it to see how fast you can make it go then it's a lot easier and cheaper with electric stuff. But yeah, all depends how much you want to spend too. Hobby King have some fairly decent stuff for reasonable money.

That Lilycam is going to appear at running events soon after launch, I'm sure. Possibly all of them. And multiple ones. I'd be messing with the channel, or whatever it uses, on my tracker to see if I could make them all follow me for a bit.

The last time I ran a car it was a Schumacher Cat. I used to be absolutely engrossed in them, simply because they were so much fun to build and modify. I've had some wicked cars in the past.. Tamiya Astute, Kyosho Corvette (Nitro). However, it's literally been more than twenty years and man things have changed.

So, I would appreciate some RMD on a car. Ideally I would like a buggy or a truck because the allure of the sand is great. However, a rally car with tyres that will go over the sand would probably be the best. Just seen a Tamiya Ford Capri that really got me wanting.

Also. Controls. I used to use Futaba? I don't like those controls with the wheel on them I want something with two sticks.

Can some one RMD me a controls set with servos please? Battery may be the best. I used to use Parma and Parma Cyclone motors.. I'm assuming that by law you can not buy the jet fuel itself by post due to the nature of it so I would need a few batteries too. So RMD on those too please because I would strongly imagine things have changed since my Parma quick drop days.

I've got that Capri ;)

If it's sand you want to run on mostly you'd be better off with a 2wd or 4wd buggy rather than a rally car. If you go for 1:8 rather than 1:10 scale there's more choice of sand tyres (sand paws) that are good on dry sand.

From what I've seen these days when we've been out electric cars are being ran while half the time nitro cars are being faffed about with getting going.

This might be a good starting point, JC. Everything to get going and you can always upgrade away. Comes with wheel rather than stick though. http://www.rossmod.co.uk/ftx-viper-sand ... AqS08P8HAQ

Thanks chap. I assume I can just buy a different set of controls and switch out the crystals?

You never know I may grow to like them though.

Here's the brushless: http://www.rossmod.co.uk/ftx-viper-rtr- ... AqBS8P8HAQ

Crystals?! Go for 2.4ghz set mate. Biggest change in RC along with LiPo power.

Well I need to be careful because we've got a one bedroom flat. Now granted, it's an enormous one bedroom flat (bigger square feet than my mother's 3 bed house) but yes, one bedroom flat.

I'm still tossing up what I want. At the back of our beach is a path about 12ft wide that's newly paved and runs for about four miles, so an on roader would work just as well (it's dead down here).

I've seen a couple of Nitro Mustangs and love the look, though I would need to find a local supplier for the fuel...

Go for electric. Much easier to find a supplier :)

Would be a good idea to have a chat with those local RCers though.

Well now it's getting tough. They still do Vanessa's Lunch Box and the Midnight Pumpkin.

I mean sure they're kinda plastic but man they do half rip with a Cyclone in them. I love how they both look too. Plus they're the same underneath so I could get a couple of body shells..

Not sure yet if I want something so basic but I do remember having much LOLs with them. In fact the only thing I can think of that was more fun was my Wild Willy. They still do those, too :D What used to be the most excellent was the availability of the parts.

Zardoz, need some assistance.

I've decided that for now I am going to go with a Tamiya Vanessa's Lunchbox. I can get the entire kit with battery and controls etc for £149. Now, what I want to do is put a much faster motor in there but tbh I have no idea whatsoever what to look for. As I mentioned previously, I used to use Parma Cylones in my old cars.

I'm perfectly happy with the car and the plastic nature as I can get all of the important A frame parts as replacements for less than a tenner. What I do want to do however is give it more balls. I will also need a couple of spare batteries and a fast charger, so any advice will be warmly received.

Cheers.

I'd get the kit only for £89ish.

Then you want a brushless motor and esc around £50

Servo £8 and whatever controller and receiver you like £15-?

Couple of LiPo batteries and a charger £30.

Oh and a ball bearing set too £8. Tamiya only give you brass / plastic bushings in most of their kits for some bizarre reason.

I'd get the kit only for £89ish.

Then you want a brushless motor and esc around £50

Wicked thanks ! yeah I already spotted the ball race kit dude, got one in my wish list :D I'm just not sure on the batteries or controls.. BTW I would like a sealed electronic speed controller. I really hated the ones that looked like the inside of a scalextrix controller !

Ed. I don't mind paying out for a good, quick motor. Say £50 tops? I want it to be fast :)
