Ta, felt lots more natural today, still plenty of room for improvement though. The way it stayed in the air helped me too :)

Batteries charged.

Props balanced.

Camera firmware updated.

New higher capacity battery ordered for goggles.

Weather shite for foreseeable future. :(

Considering selling my Phantom 2 and Phantom 1, I've not used them for a while.

Anyone on here interested?

The Phantom 2 would come with two batteries (worth ~£90 each) and the ZenMuse gimbal, and optionallyy the GoPro Hero 3 Black.
Phantom 1 has about 10 batteries, although whether any of them would still be any good I'm not sure, I stored them at around 50% charge but that was about a year ago.

Someone at work is looking at a quadcopter at around £50 as a present.
Other than "don't do it, they are all crap" what can you suggest?

They're actually all pretty good. I mean if it's one with a camera they're after don't expect to be shooting decent video but other than that they usually all fly pretty well. A Hubsan X4 is probably still a decent choice for an indoor toy. Much less than £50 too.

Yeah Hubsan X4s are good for indoor and windless days. They're under £25 on Amazon, bought two as presents for people this Christmas.

Upgraded the mini quad again with more volts, better firmware and new speed controllers with active braking. Still needs some tuning and my thumbs are out of practice but well happy so far:

Braking? So it stops the props faster?

Exactly, it seems to make the biggest difference when you drop, previously it would wobble.

No thank fuck. Didn't he try saying that he's in charge of the college or something? I know the head of the college and also the offshore side so if he turns up again I'll name drop them.

Enemy geese sighted 12 o'clock high, moving to intercept:

A mix of footage from earlier, the crappy 4:3 footage is just the downlink recording, it's from the flying wing which has no recording camera on board. Brilliant fun this morning.

Good video considering it's straight from your goggles! Forgot how nippy the wings were, felt so fast flying FPV for the first time with it after being used to the Bixler. Mobius camera mount next.

Currently listing all my unstarted static kits and other hoarded crap in the loft on eBay to buy more RC gear. :D

Oh me too, just want decent stuff to go in the X-6 and maybe a nicer footage camera down the line.

We should get one of these and turn your car into a trebuchet for launching our planes:

If I wanted to get FPV going using a little screen attached to my Phantom's controller, what would be the best options? I don't particularly want to use the goggles given that it'd be illegal (without a spotter at least) so I could flog those on and get a screen. Last time I looked Lilliput was the name to get?

I honestly don't know mate. There's a whole little ecosystem of stuff that's fairly specific to DJI/Phantoms and I know nothing about any of it.

Went out with Zardoz on Sunday morning, low tide out over the bay. Such a great place to fly:

also FAO GazChap have you seen the new DJI Phantom 4? Person tracking, object avoidance, near half hour flight time, 4K 120fps. Pretty impressive.

Yeah, got the e-mail about that yesterday. Does look damn impressive, but the £1,229 price tag puts me off, and it doesn't avoid the problem I have of my interest being in filming areas where it would be illegal to fly (i.e. getting birds eye views of towns) :/

Totally lost my taste for it, mainly because every time I've put up a video, if there's so much as a single person or structure anywhere in the video I get a load of e-mails from people delightfully pointing out that I'm breaking the law. Which I wouldn't mind if I was, but (crash video and flood video notwithstanding) I've always been very careful since to make sure that I don't contravene any laws.

We should strip out some BB guns from those cheap Chinese RC tanks and weoponise our 250 quads.

Yeah, never mind BBs people have put 9mm handguns on them.

Saw this the other day, some competition pistol shooters trying to take down some poor unarmed race quads:

Set up another plane for FPV flying over the weekend, a 2.6m sailplane. Hoping to break my own very modest height and flight time records with this one but I'll need to wait for some warmer weather for thermal lift.

Nice landing there even if I do say so myself.

I thought I might anyway for a split second. I've still never flown a floatplane, but I'm not sure a glider would be the ideal candidate.

Great morning flying yesterday.

As for watersports There's these that you know we'll get once Hobbyking has them on sale.

Here's my best run from the same day. Just caught you taking off then lost you in the bleached out sky, was the same in my goggles.

I didn't bother doing anything with the footage from my wing as there wasn't really anything to see, although I did catch your kid's crash and his walk of shame to get it back.

Long walk of shame but all in one piece. He's hooked now.

I had a short clip from my quad going through the posts before quickly losing signal due to me forgetting to screw the VTX antenna on, again.
