April March has some lovely covers, in French and English of a bunch of Serge Gainsborough stuff on Paris in April.

Indeed, April March is wonderful. It's a bit disappointing she hasn't been able to get a lot of press through 'Chick Habit' being used in Death Proof and a car advert recently. I must admit, there was a big daft grin on my face when the credit music in Death Proof fused Chick Habit with Laisse Tomber Les Filles, as they're both one of my favourite songs (a sentence which is technically correct, if not grammatically).

In case you're not aware, she recently released a new album with Steve Hanft, called Magic Monsters. It doesn't quite hit the heights of Paris in April or Chrominance Decoder, but worth a listen nonetheless.

I saw on her site that she has a new album out. The only other one I have is the one she did with Los Cincos; Last Train to Christmas is a lovely song :)

My knowledge of French music is limited to Mylene Farmer and Niagara.

A handy primer on French pop*: here.

(*Contains some songs in French by non-French artists and really should contain "Je N'Attends Plus Personne" by Francoise Hardy, but it's not available on Mixwit.)

I'm enjoying your You've Eaten My Future selection Mark X! I'm not keen on that 60s girl pop/french stuff though unfortunately. I know you've sent me the link to your Mixwit stuff before but I've never been able to get it to work previously.

Also I think Pop music must feature at least one synthesiser. Thus before about 1970 there was no pop music. FACT!

The Electrosis one is even better of course.

I saw them eight years ago or so at T in the Park. They were splendid and we danced like maniacs.

I think 'Ramblin' Man' is my fave.

Cheers. Speaking of which, I'd say track 16 on that compilation, Revolte - Ironical Sexism (We Are Terrorists Remix), is the greatest pop record of 2008 so far. And yet, I can't find it to actually buy anywhere (or even a non-remix of it), so I think it's a legally free track. I won't post a link to the mp3 here, just in case it isn't.

Oh, and for some reason, if I've got a streaming flash music player going on another tab, the music won't play if the Flash player isn't on screen. So, if I scroll down to the comments on a YouTube or Mixwit page, the sound stops. If I keep just one row of Flash pixels on screen, it continues merrily. Are any other Firefox 3.0 users having the same problem?

Meanwhile on Planet 80s Pop, I've just played

3am Eternal
Last Train to Transcentral
Doctorin' The Tardis

Which are all well wicked, innit.

And Martika's "Toy Soldiers". Which, chorus apart, isn't.

Oooh.. "Twist in My Sobriety" is next up. Tanita Tikaram.... grrrrwl. Well, then, anyway.

I like Lemon Jelly. Curdled my goat when I heard it on some daytie changing room style show with the song about baths. "In the bath" yes that is the name of the song.

Also, for those of you talking about Mousse T - Horny - have you heard the Mark and Lard version?
