I'm about an hour in. I like the music, and I like the new combat system.
Er... As you were, then.

I've won CC.

The only new battle music I really like in CC is the battle music that starts 'rann-ann-ann-ah. thump-ump-thumpathump. rann-ann-ann-ah. thump-ump-thumpathump.'

There's a lot of cool sounding music, but they speak such bollocks over the top of it, it may as well not be there. A good idea would have been to include a Sound Test. (I suppose that's what the OST is for though.)

The plot makes NO SENSE. Attempt to integrate it with your knowledge of FF7 at your peril.

It's worth winning it to hear the cool orchestral medley of FF7 music at the end (Don't click! That would be cheating!). (And maybe the cool music that plays while you're fighting Shinra and defending Cloud in the final act.)

I quite liked FF7 for about three hours and then I got bored and stopped playing. I have never played any other jRPG at any sort of length, except for both Golden Sun games, which I thought were great. Should I get Crisis Core?

Crisis Core is not like FF7. Get it anyway, then get rid of it if you don't like it.

Let it come down in price a little first if you are unsure.

The Eurogamer review claim that the best bit of it is the fan service for FFVII fans, which is what's making me think I won't like it. Plus since I ripped a bunch of DVDs my PSP has become a River Tam Viewing Device anyway. I finished watching the BSG pilot on it this morning and I have Serenity, Crank, and Children Of Men lined up on it now.

I know, that's why I bought 'em! I have tons of unwatched DVDs and this PSP/commute by train combination is going to let me work through them I think.

In unrelated news, this quad-core workstation I have in the office absolutely tears through H264 encoding. 170ish frames per second on average.

It's a complete jumble.

The missions thing is either incredibly tedious or incredibly wonderful depending on whether you like CC or not. It's little levels full of bad guys based on the same seven maps over and over again, with different start and end points.

Doing the missions completely overpowers Zack, and gives you ridiculously powerful materia.

But the availability of the missions depends on how far you've got through the game, and whether you talked to EVERYONE before leaving an area for the last time: there's no world map, you are where you are until you leave and then you never come back.

Talk to everybody in Midgar before you head out with Sephiroth. The betrayal and five year imprisonment by Shinra makes it kinda hard to return.

There's no indication ingame that not talking to everybody before you leave makes a specific mission slice not appear, but I can assure you that I'm right.

I can't get 100% now because I didn't talk to some pleb about clearing Midgar of monsters.

There's lots of materia.

Canny folks will figure out how to use Materia Fusion to make Zack super powerful with lots of super skills. Well six, because that's all he can carry.

I really like materia, so I liked Crisis Core.

Materia! It's magic, and it's a fun word to say.

Ask me about Materiaâ„¢.

says about twenty words through the whole thing, which is a little disappointing. He spends most of the time in a twisted heap, in a mako coma.

The game skips past months and years of time with little explanation of what happened between.

See, I think that would have been much *RANDOM BATTLE* funnier if you'd written a big long post, but every *RANDOM BATTLE* so often, interrupted yourself with *RANDOM BATTLE* *RANDOM BATTLE*

Maybe not.

You forgot to add in a long *chocobochocobochocobochocobo* in the middle, which you can only get past after several hours and a couple of broken controllers.
