If you enjoy all the moisture being sucked out of your body, by all means toast the bread first.
Alternatively, cheese on bread, toast under grill until cheese melted and some of the bread is burned.

Get some cheese, get some cooked bread dough, put cheese upon the bread dough.
Get a low sulphur content volcano, put said cheese covered cooked bread dough upon the volcano for a moment until cooked twice as much as before. Then eat.

I toast one side of the bread in the grill, then turn over, apply a base coat of soft cheese then season, add grated cheese and stick back in grill. The soft cheese prevents the outer edges of the toast from burning.

The beauty is that there are many correct ways to do this.

Even something as simple as:

Toast bread
Add slices of mature cheddar
Douse in Cholula

That can be a thing of wonder, and *gasp* the cheese isn’t even melted!

I also like to grill one side of the bread, flip it, then add sliced cheese to the other, soft, side. Then grill until molten. Nice crunchy edges, nice gooey soft middle. Excellent for dipping.

This is true. BUT that sealing process also heats the interior to eleventy billion degrees, vastly increasing the risk of facial scarring, and restricts how much cheese you can use. Swings and roundabouts.

I notice that no one has made the distinction between melted cheese on toast and toasted cheese on toast, by which I mean that the cheese has at least started to brown and crisp. I usually stop at melted, because I JUST CAN’T WAIT TO EAT IT ONCE THE SLICES HAVE STARTED TO COAGULATE INTO A SINGLE SHEET.

I sometimes like to stripe it up a bit by applying alternate slices of Cheddar and Red Leicester, or other slices of different colours.

Oops, almost forgot that as well as sauce of the day, I do like to add black pepper.

Oh, I also prefer my cheese on toast on crusts. In the Warhead household no one other than me eats the crusts in sandwiches or as toast, so when I’m having cheese on toast using a new loaf, I will use both crusts ....... because I can never eat just one slice of this delicacy.

And then there’s the variety of breads. White, brown, whole meal, seeded. You name it, there’s no bread that I know of that doesn’t benefit from being toasted.

I have a theory that most wars could have been averted if the pre-hostility negotiations had been undertaken with toast provided.
