Extra 10% off all Amazon warehouse items

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/amazon- ... ts-2329138

They have done this a few times - and if you can find something your looking for most Amazon warehouse offers are pretty much the same as new (someone has had the item / opened it / did not like it and has returned it) - my 3DS / Vita were both Amazon warehouse deals and both arrived looking just like new.

This does also apply to games so there may well be stuff you can get via this cheaper than anything else

e.g. Guitar hero live would be £40.98

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guitar-Hero-Liv ... =fallout+4

Destiny Taken King £27.54

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Destiny-Taken-K ... =fallout+4

Batman Arkham knight £21.10

'ere that Steam has a bit of sale going on, init. There's loads of stuff discounted by various amounts, like, 5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%. I even saw one that was 14%! Ho ho. Anyway you get the idea, things be cheaper.

Here's a list of things I've just purchased that were cheaper than they were previously to being cheaper

Broforce: Less than £6.
The Escapists: The Walking Dead: About £6.
Max Payne 3: Just over £3.

I only did the latter to see if my PC could handle some graphics. I'm super interested to see how that turns out and whether it will blow away the 360 version I played which was already bloody pretty and that was, like, totally "Last Gen."

Anyway, pop over there and spend some virtual money. It ain't like real money at all.

That's a pretty hefty collection of games. I've always struggled with Neo Geo emulation to be honest so I may just go for that. Thanks!

Post subject:  Re: Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!

Amusingly these are actually roms taken from the pirate bay, packaged up with what appears to be an emulator taken without permission.

Clearly they have the rights to distribute the roms, but they are taken from an unofficial source. Looks like the emulator is the one originally made for distributing these games via Gametap.

The files inside mention torrent sites and checksums - I'm not sure if someone has specifically said its TPB or some other site but

Dotemu's statement on it :

http://www.dotemu.com/Letter/NeoGeo.html

And notice it just says they are 'legal' (and the use of the emulator bundled is legal) it does not say where they got any of it from

The twitter link I posted earlier has quite a few updates to it if anyone else is following the story - I wonder if this is worth splitting out of the 'bargain' thread into a thread of its own ?

Post subject:  Re: Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!

Wasn't there something similar with some super mario collection a few years back? That not only was it just a bunch of ROMs and an emulator packaged together for like £50 but Nintendo had just download the ROMs from somewhere on the internet?

Author:  Bamba [ Wed Dec 09, 2015 14:43 ]
Post subject:  Re: Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!

It was the Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii, it literally was just a ROM of the SNES version of the game bundled with an emulator and then charged full price for. I remember being appalled by the Eurogamer review which was basically a review of the fucking box. Though I can't find any source for claims that the ROM rip was downloaded from the internet so I might've made that part up.

Post subject:  Re: Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!

I bought that and it is a pretty lame way of celebrating 25 years of Mario. I mean, its nice and everything but it's hardly a magnificent collectors edition.

Author:  LewieP [ Wed Dec 09, 2015 19:54 ]
Post subject:  Re: Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!

Especially given that the respective GBA releases had a few enhancements compared to the SNES versions (although were also compromised in other ways), so it wasn't even definitive versions of the games, it was just the easiest way possible to do a rerelease.

Post subject:  Re: Bargains, Bargains, Bargains!

Oh yeah, that was crap. The Super Mario All-Stars ROM, the 50hz version at that, on a disc. The All-Stars versions of the games aren't very good anyway, I mean they had a save game feature added, but the 'improved' graphics were poor, and they messed up the controls, feel too stiff or too stodgy compared to the NES/Famicom versions.

The slightly altered Super Mario World on the later version of (western) All-Stars was good though, gave Luigi his own sprite design.

(I'd love to see a remastered Super Mario All-Stars using the Super Mario Maker engine, incidentally. Too obvious and too good an idea for Nintendo to contemplate though, and I guess it's too late in the console's life.)

Super Mario Maker is missing a bunch of features from the classic games it's based on. No slopes being the main on, and no bespoke camera management on a per level basis. Also no Mario 2.

It's still good, and those missing features don't make it a bad make your own Mario game, but you couldn't entirely reproduce the games it is based on in it without adding some major new features.

Given that in Japan, Mario 2 was not seen as a main series game, this is entirely unsurprising.

Indeed. Would have been nice to have a Mario 2/Doki Doki Panic tileset in Mario Maker though.

I'm not talking about personally remaking all the SMB games and SMW levels in Super Mario Maker incidentally, I'm just stating an idea that the engine behind SMM, with its clear 1080p graphics and so on, would be great for a new 'remastered' take on Super Mario All-Stars, as long as of course the missing enemies and backgrounds and so on were added. Doubt it would happen now though with the Wii U on its last legs.

I realise everyone is well aware that the Steam Sale is on but specifically I've decided to take a punt on BORDERLANDS THE PRE-SEQUEL PLUS SEASON PASS for £16.49.

I know the game is not held in anything like the high regard that Borderlands 2 is, and that the Season Pass for the pre-sequel looks incredibly mean compared to what BL2 got, but considering that BL2 is hands-down one of my favourite games of all time, if the pre-sequel is only half as good it'd be worth playing through.

For £16.49 I'll have a punt on it. I got charged more than that for four pints of lager a few weeks ago.
