HMV is less than 2 minutes walk from my office. In fact, I was in there less than 20 minutes ago with our very own Metal Angel.

It'd be a real shame if I bought one of those new £90 Rock Band gee-tars too.

West Wing is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. But I'm stuck on the less-than-brilliant Season 5. I've heard it really picks up, though.

It does. Season 7 is grand.

Eh. I don't think it ever recaptures the awesomeness of the first three seasons or so. The last series is OK but some of the magic's gone.

I bought that complete West Wing, incidentally. Turns out 44 DVDs, even in special slimline 6-DVDs-in-double-width-case, is quite heavy. Also: 112 hours. What have I done?

44 you say? Two discs of extras? Anything worthwhile? The individual series sets are a bit sparse in that respect.

I'd advise against trying to watch it all in one sitting. Also, be prepared to do a bit of rewinding occasionally (particularly early on) as it can be a bit confusing and fast-moving sometimes, unless you're familiar with the workings of US government departments. (Or maybe I'm just a bit thick - you decide.)

Yes. Yes. No idea. Back of the box says there are five hours of extras -- including a gag reel. I love gag reels, particularly from serious shows. Ask me in 12-18 months when I've watched it all.

Good advice. You could just about watch it in a week, if you cut down to 5 or so hours of sleep a night and ate fast food and pooped fast.

I've seen the odd 20 minute bit of it while channel hopping; it confused me then. Immersing myself in it will probably help.

To be fair, you don't have to have any grasp of American politics to find it entertaining and get deeply hooked on it.

I'd quite like to have a better grasp of American politics, so it's all win for me.

It's worth it for The Jackal alone.

On this note, is the XBLA Monkey Island game that came out a couple of months back actually FUN, even when you have played the original multiple times in the past, and once again fairly recently? Speaking objectively.

No.

The monkey island remake? I got it, it's very nicely done and everything (although some of the new character models are a bit jarringly ugly). It's really just MI with a fancy new style. I'm glad I got it, a great game and for a nostalgia kick.

If you've played through it recently, though, it's probably not worth bothering with. It's still fun, but after already having done it, the fun is much diminished.

Also, the PC and iPhone versions of Monkey Island SE are half-price this weekend (£3.49 and £2.39 respectively).

Man, GOG.com really need to up their ante with their own discount plans! Their Unreal prices look laughable at the moment in the face of Steam's current offer. I have to credit them though for running a BOGOF deal on Interplay's back catalogue last week which allowed me to extend my virtual GOG shelf a fair bit.

I can't see this mentioned in the last few pages, so apologies if I'm treading on the foot of familiarity here - Tesco are shoving out (non-Beatle) Rock Band Drum Kits for £17.87 each (they're still £69.99 on Play). It's probably a bit of a lottery whether your local will have any left in stock, and whether they'll be flagged up as such on the shelves, but it seems to be nationwide. If you see one on the shelf at your local store, it's worth asking a cashier to check the price.

Here's how suspiciously great a barg it is: I picked up the last one in stock earlier tonight (at Tesco Broughton, living-near-there-slash-disappointment fans), having gone to the Digital Checkout desk to check the price first.

"Ooh, that can't be right. Hang on, let me check again."

"Yeah, that should be right. Someone posted on HotUKDeals saying they were going for that price."

"You're right. £17.87, please."

"Cheers."

Arriving at the 'regular' till after doing the rest of my shopping, I'd asked the cashier if she needed to scan the security tag on the box. "No, I think you're okay with that." "Ah, cool. Well, if not, I'll find out in about ninety seconds, eh?", I jocularly countered. Like a twat. Ninety seconds later, cue me frozen at the entrance as the alarms go off, peering around for the security bod to swoop*.

"Okay, let's just have a look at your receipt... hang on. This can't be right. Have you paid for this? It's never £18 for one of these. Can you follow me please?"

Long story short, I follow Security Lady to the Digital desk LIKE A GREAT BIG CRIMINAL, where the Digital Desk Lady takes one look at me with the Rock Star Drum box and says "no, that is the right price, and he has paid". Tsk. The moral is: get the cashier to deactivate the security tag properly.

(*I'm used to this now, having had the same thing happen to me twice before in the last two sodding weeks, in different supermarkets. I suspect I emit an electromagnetic field that prevents the deactivation of security tags.)

Completely off topic, but when I worked in Sainsbury's I had an entire roll of sticky black security tag things. Looked kinda like a black nicotine patch with some flat copper wire gubbins on it. I stuck one on the inside of my mate's inside-coat-pocket one friday night, and apparently he went to a shopping centre the next day and set off every single security gate going in and out of every single shop

Also, for the interested - if you were to take the whole roll of security tags through the gate, it wouldn't go off. If you've got too many, it confuses the machine (presumably) and it just doesn't react. So, thieves, get yourself a tag-roll.

Really? Because I worked at HMV, and one of the security guards used to wear one of those coats to work that had a zip at the back of the neck where a flimsy hood used to hide, and we stuck one inside there for the lulz. He ended up buying a new coat after a couple of weeks.

When I worked at b&q we used to peel the tags off the roll and randomly scatter them sticky side up on the floor around the checkouts. On oap Wednesday. That taught the annoying piss smelling olds coming in seemingly just to complain about the pot plants.

Haha! We did this as well! (Well, I did.) It was very much about amusing myself. Sometimes (I worked in the booze aisle), I'd smash a bottle of wine in the warehouse just to waste time cleaning it up. Good times.

edit: Also, I worked at B&Q for a year after Sainsbury's gave me the boot, funnily enough

We also fastened them to the underneath of flatbed trolleys in the cement aisle. Not funny watching people shift 50kg bags of cement looking for things that aren't there. Not at all.

Pretty sure this is a bargain. I have an oldish TomTom GO 700. It's 4 years old, and misses the odd new mini-roundabout, but it works. The battery is terrible, and so you need to leave it plugged in really. Has a windscreen mount, case, and charging cable.
