Played 77 not played 23.

Of the 23 not played I'd probably like to play about 3 of them.

Of the 77 played I've completed 55 of the ones that have a completion state (so I'm counting Tetris for example as the Gameboy original I played it on had an ending).

10. I've played 10 of them.

Strong console bias in that list. Very strong

All of them but one. It's up to us to spend the next 10 or so pages discussing which one.

Played only 27 of them. Who on earth voted for them? 13 year olds?

Why 13 year olds? All of Ueda's work is in there and they are considered some of the most emotionally affecting games produced not just shoot-em-up bang bang games like CoD.

Curio, did they have a preface to the list? Something that gives an idea of how they compiled their list?

Not played 21 but that includes things like Civ4 (when I've played a lot of previous Civ games) - the only one in the top in the top 20 i've not played is Bayonetta 2 and thats just because i dont have a Wii-u

Doom (2016) is rated so high.

Is it really shit or do you just disagree with it? I thought Doom (2016) was a brilliant game. Well deserving of a place on a 'best of' list.

I've just checked and noticed that they've put Dead Space above it. S'all subjective innit?

Do they set out criteria for what makes a game worthy? A list of the most ground-breaking, genre-changing games would be different to a list of the games that are the most fun to play after a hard day, after all. We also need to factor in changing technology and expectations because what was impressive in 1982 isn't going to be as shocking as something released today.

Naturally, if the number of times a person plays a game is the sole metric, the world would be split into two opposing factions: Minesweeper fans and Solitaire freaks.

Dead Space was brilliant though. Personally I liked 2 better and thought it was more fun to play but the original introduced things such as all the HUD on the character himself, items and menus ingame, had a sense of place that 2 was lacking and the sound design was awesome.

I wonder if this is just something on their diary so they revisit this every few years

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10580

If you look at the top 20 for both its easier to see they just slotted some new ones in and pushed the older ones up one step

If all these games have got to be as playable today as when they were when they were released there's no way Super Mario 64 should be anywhere near the top of that list, it's a frustrating mess of a game. It's the one Mario game that has definitely not stood the test of time.

You tried playing it recently? And not just to dabble, but to try and finish it from the start?

I wondered the same thing about Demon's Souls (25th) and Dark Souls (2nd). I've not played Demon's Souls yet, but I assumed Dark Souls was more of the same but with a bit extra here and there?

XCOM but not XCOM2, even though it improves on almost everything with the first game? (and that's before the new expansion which improves on the improvements)

Travesty etc. etc.

Didn't you play it multiple times through to completion? It must have been doing something right.

I'm struggling to think of games as polished and memorable as Dead Space that went the Resi 4 action survival route other than The Last of Us. The Evil Within? Alan Wake? The former is great but it's not top 100 worthy. Alan Wake was a bit pants.

I have a vague recollection that you did as well. Am I right in believing that you could play through again with all the weapons upgraded from a previous play?

Yeah, I remember starting to play through again with my 'weapons' starting off where the first play through left them.

I really want to play it again now :D

My posting history here has no reminders that are useful, although with you saying that as well I guess it's probably true.

I did find this ace post though, from a thread where I was picking between Dead Space and Far Cry 2:

You forgot ALL THE ZELDAS.

And all the games made after 2000. ;)

You can't have Moonstone though. That bloody thing was fab but I never once made it to the end without it crashing. It was a notoriously buggy mess.

EDIT: or James Pond 3, it was a shit Sonic clone.

I'd say James Pond 3 was more of a Super Mario World clone, but for some reason, I always preferred it to Mario or Sonic.

And I've never enjoyed a Zelda game enough to complete it. Wind Wake was alright, but I still gave up on it.

Moonstone was only buggy on the pirate version. You filthy pirate

LIES. I had the big A4 box copy for xmas. Might still have it somewhere.

Or did I? Christ, now you've got me thinking I was a big filthy pirate. Which I was, but I still got the odd boxed game.

Edit: I'm not sure you're right. Even with a quick google I've come across talk of "infamous game breaking bugs." No, I think my recollection is right about this one.

No Sonic games either.

A fair few I've never heard of, though.
